  1. I am now able to enjoy GW2 at 140fps with DXVK, and dx11.

after I got it working with wine-staging, I installed wine-ge-custom from the AUR.

    added dx11 via winetricks

    installed amd-gpu-pro drivers

installed pro vulkan drivers, including lib32 versions.

    installed dxvk from repos

installed dxvk into the wine prefix

launched gw2 with the -dx11 switch

game launched, I can log in and play at max visuals. 🙂 I have not tested the trading post yet.

I also noticed last night there was an updated wine-ge-custom, have not installed it, b/c I want to enjoy playing for a bit since I've missed it for a month.

just wanted to pass along how I could finally get it going again, in case it may help someone else.

That problem is really weird. I'm playing with proton, and I haven't encountered any slowdowns in XFCE.

this is a weird issue, took me a few days to figure out it was only after I installed guild wars 2 in bottles.

do you also run steam, or just proton (instead of vanilla wine)?  from what I saw when I ran it in bottles, max visuals, at ~140fps, looked beautiful. if you are running proton with no wine, I'd like to try that.

I've tried various bottles settings on my system, and it's a no go, I did get it to work once, though <10 fps.

building a new machine soon, hopefully the different hardware will make a difference.

    build my new machine:

    amd ryzen

    radeon 6700 XT

    gw2 still crashes with wine.

I was able to get it running with bottles, with ~140fps on max settings!  YES!!!!

however, having bottles installed and a game configured in bottles borked thunar (xfce file manager), where whenever I right click in thunar as to create a new file/folder or paste a file I've copy/cut, thunar freezes and it's memory usage jumps to over 12gig. WTF?

    I've posted about it here:

    https://forum.usebottles.com/t/install-game-in-bottles-freezes-thunar-file-manager/568

    and here:

    https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=16004

it's been a good run, and I guess I can either have guild wars 2 working in bottles that breaks thunar, or a working system and no guild wars 2.

has anyone else experienced the thunar issue I've described?

Installing Wine from the package manager should be done on every system as it will automatically install most required dependencies. As for that package,  no installation is needed, you can unzip it into your home folder and create a portable setup from it.

In your case, it's probably easier to just install the one from the AUR repo.

@MrEMan.1730 Might be a while before I release a new package, the only 2 issues I have so far since the new update is with the TP crashing the game after a period of gameplay and the flickering lighting which is also present on Windows.

As for performance, It's still pretty much the same from before the patch.  I'm taking notes as I play 🙂

thanx for the info, unfortunately, after updating wine-ge-custom from AUR, a new wineprefix, no dvxk, and gw2 still crashes when trying to launch. 😞

    time to try other things.

After a week I've finally got the game running on both my desktop and laptop (AMD gpu and Intel HD respectively).  took me a little longer than most due to running an old distro. It's good to be back despite the TP still being a mess.

I don't like Steam or clients in general, so I feel you on that.  I used this build: https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/wine-ge-custom/releases/download/GE-Proton7-21/wine-lutris-GE-Proton7-21-x86_64.tar.xz  (pre-compiled Wine build)

From there I setup a new prefix,  added DXVK game worked fine. If for some reason you're 100% sure you did everything correctly but game is still crashing, try enabling Virtual Desktop in Wine config, this has solved the issue for me on Intel HD.

thanx for the link. if I understand that correctly, I will need to have wine installed from the repository, and then install this on top of it? I also noticed there is a wine-ge-custom in AUR for arch linux, any idea if this is the same?

To play GW2 in an acceptable way, the Wine build needs to contain 3 things:
    1. LFH patchset (not included in Wine-Staging) or ntdll-Heap_Improvements (Disabled in Wine-Staging-6.18)
    2. Esync or Fsync
    3. for DXVK to work (actually for Vulkan, but dxvk depends on it anyway - so it doesn't really matter how they talk about it) after 19 Jul 2022 update you need a childwindow patch. (You don't need this patch to play with WineD3D[OpenGL])

if you don't want to use ready-made third-party builds, then you can't do without patching and compiling, since vanilla Wine (apparently) will never have any of them. And the work of DXVK should be broken after 19 July 2022 update.

    thanx for the reply.

I'm ok with installing a different flavor of wine (just stuck with wine-staging because it worked), or even use bottles to launch, I'm just hoping it can be done without steam.

  7. has anyone gotten it working with just regular wine, no playonlinux, no lutris no bottles?

I've had it working since launch with just wine (with FPS no higher than 35), and over the last few years with wine+dxvk with the FPS starting in the mid 40's, usually on average it was low 50's.

now, it's a no go with just wine(staging) and no front end (bottles, lutris, etc). I installed bottles to test other wine versions/configurations, and it's mostly miss. however, if I do gt into the game with dxvk enabled, my fps doesn't go above 20.

I prefer to not install steam, since GW2 is the only game I've played and it's worked flawlessly since launch with just wine(staging).

I've really missed my evening wind down sessions.

if anyone has any tips on how to get it playable again (without steam), I'd be very grateful.

  8. quick and probably stupid question on the Daily's.my highest lvl is 30, and I created a new character and used the lvl 80 bump to try out some of the gear. Well, needless to say I didn't care of it (after I accepted it) and then deleted that character.

Since doing that, most if not all the Daily's I now get are in way higher level than my lvl 30.

    Did I just screw myself?

    thanx.
