I'm finding this whole thing an oxymoron? "Make the story more rewarding by adding more rewards to farm, but not enough to be abused", when thats pretty much whats going to happen when put emphasis on a better reward. In fact, thats the entire premise of this suggestion..... "make the story give more rewards, so I can abuse it, rather then doing that other method that already exists and does exactly what I need it to do".

Its kind of hard to not fixate on that point, when its the foundation of the entire discussion.

personally i dont see what the difference is between running a storyline for rewards vs running meta events ect. it lets solo players earn something or players to help eachother. i dont like meta events or grinding non stop and helping new players is not really possible. i can however replay the expansion storyline with more enjoyment that killing random mobs aand events repeatedlly with 200 other people killling the same mobs.

The whole argument of this thread is pointless. Soldier's gear is no longer the default anymore nor easy to obtain, mainly just being available from the Orr karma vendor I think. The lv80 boost gears were replaced with Celestial.

Its still the default gear for WvW badges but it at least makes sense there.

true, i have had some fun with celestial of late. made an amazing hybrid dps warrior and the power precison concentration runes let me make a sb power warrior with 100% protection uptime and weakness.

  3. So as they asked for a soldier build with damage i put something rushed together.

    Arms- 2 2 1

    strength- 1 3 1

    Defence- 2 2 2

Soldiers gear, optional runes reallly but daredevil gives you another crit.

With this build its mainly about dodges. you have massive hp and armor pools. but you want to dodge to get extra damgae. extra might, extra crit. lot of options for this build but you are taking all the damage traits that normal dps build dont. you will have over 3200 power baseline and 3200 armor in this build and you can even get your base crit chance to 40% if you like with sigils and percision signet however personally i went for the might signet to cut through my enemies when they came close. however percision sig gives that burst skill.

this build works on dodges, they give you damage, crits, and might, you will have vigor and endurance sig as options for more dodges. you will have sigils of endurance and crit on your weapons and you will have to the limit shout for shared 50% endurance gain. making more people in your group give you more dodges.

not only will your dps builds have a hard time cutting my soldiers down but a hard time even landing a hit.

and thse soldiers are not wimps on the dps charts. as dodge rolls can be faster than some attack animation and i forgot to mention their ferocity. you wil have 200-222% ferocity on this build. good luck beserkers i wish you well on your journy.

p.s. non of that is counting the 21% damage increase trait and the 25% damage increase from vulnerability trait. so not only is this build doing damage on par with you and with better defence stats but also getting a 46% damage boost in damage

Agreed. Some trash might have minor usefulness to a particular kind of player, though.

In that regard, I think Soldier's is oddly perfect for the kind of player who thinks it's a good idea to buy an 80 boost for a game they're totally new to. They're probably making a ton of assumptions about GW2 based on their other gaming experiences, are likely a bit impatient, and almost 100% do not read tooltips. For this kind of player, it probably makes sense to give them a set that stacks Vitality for a bit of anti-condi padding, Toughness to reduce those power spikes, and Power... well because on its face power is simpler than condi (the latter has duration, intensity, and type differences). Of course maximizing power bursts can take relatively complex setups too, but we're not talking about that type of player. Soldier's will help this kind of player not die instantaneously, and perhaps if they stick around long enough to try harder content, they'll come to know (or be loudly told) that Soldier's is garbage and be recommended other stats based on what/how they want to play.

Or they just want the raptor. I was telling my friend, if you want to get good on your ranger don't boost it. Think of an account you wouldn't mind training in the far off future, something you're not as interested in. Boost that one to get your raptor. Because by the time you get to playing that class, you'll probably know enough about the game mechanics that there won't be as huge a learning curve, even though the class is different.

    She chose warrior.

I find that although no one teams in this game or even likes seeing other people run around it seems. that def stats on armor is good for group builds.. yes you can have 10 max dps warriors but if you have a team focused build and everyone has some beef their combined damage helps make up the difference in a fight. 10 dps vs 10 tanks. its likly that 10 tanks can slowly pick off the dps and although the dps can possibly pick off the tanks there is much more risk involved there. one of my favorite methods of this was in pvp with a condi tank warrior group. we used shout heals to keep everyone healthy as it was more reliable in numbers. constant aoe fire fields around us and could shoot and apply 4 stacks burning per person with auto attacks. so 20 stacks of burners on 1 player at a time with no cooldowns. plus bow and sword have immob so it was easy to control fights and peel from allies. personally i enjoy the teamwork of a good team beef build over raw dps.

i would also say thaat some skills in game people say are trash, are much better in group builds aswell but no one does that. one such thing is the bow 4 skills. 3 ammo aoe blind. with 5 people you get 15 aoe blinds and with their recharage that is infinite aoe blinds. skills can be multiplicitive aswell.

Claims I'm making a specious argument. Doesn't define his own terms. Demands I prove him wrong first. Misconstrues what I say. Dancing around everything else. I can recognize troll logic when I see it. You aren't here for a serious discussion on how gear affects damage and durability. You're just here to send me running into endless circles.

    Obvious troll is obvious.

I defined my parameters with video and clear damage values. Do us the courtesy of doing the same. You don't need to provide video but simply define a dps value range that equates to what you are referring to as "surprisingly high damage".

We both know why you will never do that. Because the moment you do, it will become crystal clear that you are wrong and power without precision and ferocity deals jack for damage.

i make builds for fun, some very impressive ones if i do say so myself. i havnt messed around with soldier much however what comes to mind since i play warrior a lot is if you want to make the dps higher. you most likly will need 3 sec 100% crit sigils and possibly the precision and ferocity boost on disable sigil. then perhaps a build with high vigor and signet of endurance. with runes of .... daredevil i believe. every dodge gives a 100% crit. that or just a crit sigil of 7% with fury would give what 33% crit chance then you would have 1005 on dodges and 100% for 3 seconds. if you like more crit you can spec 100% crit on burst skills or 50% increased crit to disabled foes. then run some physical cc abilities.. there is also the signet stacking that can give 100 ferocity per stack of 5.

so now you have the potential of a high power build with high armor and high health that can still lay down high burst and sustain damage while also being able to reckllesslly dodge.

  6. I know this post is a tad old but i just wanted to throw my idea in here. i have had a hard time getting it going atm because i dont have access to the armor but might generation. I was messing with sword and longbow condi precision because longbow has 1 auto per shot and fire arua with might sigils thats 4 possible might and double the crit plus the fire aura however bow is slow.

Now Rifle is also slow but it gains might per auto attack and with might sigils and aoe vun plus piercing damage you can see that you can get 1 might per auto 1 might per crit in trait and 2 might on sigils which effectivly is 1 more than greatsword could be able to do. Rifle also has some cc and long range use for bosses in pve aswell as 2 evades which can be recharged with the cc ability. currently i only have cellestial gear but it seems to me rifle Greatsword could be the versitille setup for pve play as you could keep your might gen running while kitting and have 3 evades compared to 1 shield stance plus put 25 stacks of vulln on a target before swapping back to your greatsword for a hundred blades combo..

i also have been messing around with core warrior instead of spell breaker but i have a good reason

tempest Runes, i am currently running defiant stance shake it off for great justice and the sigil of endurance. with endure pain traited. this lets me also trait for the stun recovery so yes i am missing out on a lot of might heals in groups from spell breaker and a block with some protection. but i get an extra dodge on my rifle, and now aoe heal when i break cc, essensially breaking a cc heals more for 3-4k with no recharge and i have 2 -4 stunbreaks.

  7. This is my first post online. Returning player and i have not seen much online about certain aspects of the game like chill. i get it has great affects. My thoughts were to use it on my warrior in pvp too stop immunity spams or like daze locks that some theives use on me in duels. Rune of the reaper gives 1 sec chill per shout used.Is one sec. of chill worth it? does the affect stop after chill is gone or does the increased cooldown still apply after?I have been asking around in pvp lobbies and no one knows or will help me test this out.Any insight on this topic would be helpful :D
