  1. Wanna put Portugal into the mix? I'm unable to buy gems off of German or Spanish Amazons, let alone buy in Amazon.com with dollar to euro conversion, which I'd be paying less. Imagine those folks in Switzerland buying gems. GG Anet. I think you'd be doing more if you'd put this sale in TP then on Amazon, but its a tap in the back. We get it

  2. I really do like to read " legacy code " on blog/dev post from time to time. As an Ops guy in a DevOps consultancy company I really hate this being a "main" core function of every project and company that I work for. I know refactoring a game of this propotion would take years and maybe by the time you'd get there you'd have new legacy code somewhere else.
    Welp.

Good luck. That's all I can give as a supportive member, game enthusiast and infra/sysadmin wannabe.

    Cheers lads.

Really?  I get Lucent Motes from Copper-Fed.  I think you are mistaken about Silver-Fed.  Or, rather, confused.

Regardless, it is not going to change per Game Update:

    Thanks.
    I'm still debating the semantics.
And the why figure in a game where you buy quality of life.

P.S. Yes. I was wrong and got confused and mixed with other stuff. Don't mind me. But still on to the why. >_>

It's named Runecrafter's because to craft Runes you need the components of Runes.

    From the in-game description:

Some items you'll find will be salvageable. Use a salvage kit to break them down into crafting materials.

    — Salvaging

To craft Runes (and Sigils), you need Lucent Motes and Charms (and Symbols).

Completly misguiding when you have Silver-Fed Salvage-o-Matic, for example which says clearly the same (except percentage wide): "Double-click to salvage crafting materials from an item in your inventory. 25% chance of rarer materials. 80% chance of salvaging upgrades.  " And doesn't give you lucent motes.

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Silver-Fed_Salvage-o-Matic

    As I said.: Semantics.
Which leaves the question who would buy this salvage kit to get that out? That's what driving this whole thing. We are being friendly enough to make awareness for them to see that there is clearly something up. Decision making person/group in Arenanet took the will and did this some years ago? Yeah sure no problem. Community is here to help.
Beside, players would clearly go through the double process to get lucent motes if needed from sigils and runes instead of getting it directly. Speaking for myself also, I'm  from Portugal and I'm not native American-English speaking person, I'm taking stuff literal.

I take the "runecrafter" name a little far off and would be more to get the rune out instead of crafting. (now that would be just plain marketing).

it's not an issue of the description being wrong, it's an issue of the difference between what the Black Lion Salvage Kit ("recover") does and what the normal kits ("salvage") do, as already mentioned by Inculpatus cedo.9234 previously. I agree that it's not ideal, but they are at least consistent in their use from what I see (salvaging always means breaking items down into their base components, not recovering applied sigils etc).

But ok, lets put it to "theory":

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Salvage_kit

Looking at this table and cheking the related "upgrade link":

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Upgrade_component

    We get the upgrades.

So, to get the Upgrades, for a 95% of sure, we should be using Crude Salvage Kit because "Has a small chance of salvaging upgrades" [small (~5%)] .

Since, salvaging destroys the upgrades then we should be inverting the situation. Is that it?

Ok... lets define what "salvage" means:
I believe the below link of the cambridge dictionary is a safe place to start from:
"to save goods from damage or destruction, especially from a ship that has sunk or been damaged or a building that has been damaged by fire or a flood: "
    https://dictionary.cambridge.org/pt/dicionario/ingles/salvaging

"to get something back that was lost or almost destroyed"

    https://dictionary.cambridge.org/pt/dicionario/ingles/recover?q=recovering+

This is why they have "percentage" values in front of their descriptions.
I'm getting what you are saying. But if we put this down in plain English, then we have a situation over here.

    Semantics

And some items are salvageable with the other kits (lower/inferior quality [and even gem store ones, silver and copper]) getting you the "rune" or "sigil" even with "lower" percentage.
The thing here is really the "percentage", semantics and effectiveness. Most precisely what Arenanet really wanted with their "digital" "ingame" product to achieve. They have to come out and be honest.

There has been already numerous posts about this which I did not read. And ... I'm a bit of a slacker to go search for an answer from them. If there is one.

  7. I had this situation and contacted support. And I was told we should put this in the foruns so Devs could help us out.

    @GM Cunorix

@GM Cunorix.3764 was a really great help about it

I believe the description has been there since the item came out. Perhaps this is "bad programming" or "not well implemented" or "the description was always wrong". I think Arenanet staff and peeps are already aware cause this is not the first time it has been on the Trading Post but now that it comes to our attention that is on promotion people like you, the author of the thread and me want to buy it. But we have to make the inteligent move here.

Or we get a new definition out of what is "an upgrade"? and Instanciate both and we get the most lovely people on planet earth to add that to the wiki and have a delicious proper descritption and help to explain this item to Tyria or... or nothing. We won't do nothing. =/

The thing is the moral and ethic part of the matter at hands. You have a marketing strategy and a strategy to make this game profitable and livable... who plays this wants to have fun and some quality of life inside the game. This item has no limit of use which adds up to the effectiveness at hand. Cause black lion salvage kit have a limit of usage.

This is all math and power in numbers. I think there are worse (in a good way) broken items that the game has and people use it daily. I'm just gonna reference Toy Axe (please dont nerf or touch this).

So, who can we ping at least to read this topic?
Make this a better thread with more participants?
