  1. Simply put, play really aggressively on Herald and you'll do better. I got way better after raiding for legendary armor because my muscle memory let me simply fight faster than opponents.

You can spike fast with power herald and pressure hard with condi herald. Condi herald has fantastic condi cleanse, sustained pressure, utility, and some tankiness. Power herald has weak condi cleanse, team utility, strong burst, and strong defense you have to use strategically (facet of light, staff, blind, and CC).

Looking at your suggestions, I am a bit baffled at what you are trying to make here. You take away some of our stronger utility to make a sub par healer it looks like. One of the things I actually enjoy about being a vindicator is I can swap on the fly and heal allies. It's amazing how quickly you can bring people up spamming the urn with selfless spirit and an on demand protection when using awakening. Grant it we need more for St. Viktor of zu Heltzer, but what you're proposing with this just basically removes all utility just to force vindicator into alac provider.

On top of that I don't see any aegis protection, to cover the fact you are taking away a lot of vindicator utility there. You've removed out ability to generate stamina on demand two ways thus downgrading our leap attack further, which is a source of healing we can do when specced for it, and frankly, you've tanked the entire specs DPS. This hybrid you are proposing just has nothing going for it.

If anywhere we should be providing alternative attacks its in our weapons based on legends we use through out trait lines. I agree the Alliance needs some work, but this is honestly not it.

Removed utility? I added a new Alliance Tactics upkeep skill that can proc boons on dodge including alacrity

Don't see any aegis? Aegis isn't on Vindi in the first place and I'm not in support of every spec being able to proc every boon, many players are complaining about homogenization of the specs

Removed our ability to generate stamina? I baked one stamina generation trait into the traitline so you can take TWO endurance regen traits alongside Energy Meld

Tanked the entire specs DPS? I added a Bladesworn-like burst ability with a much more interactive energy-upkeep Spear elite

Perhaps I didn't write things clearly enough. Your responses simply don't reflect what I wrote in that proposal.

U running carrion krait or something? I run the same legends right now. Find a lot of my time is spent trying to have the perfect dodges, and saving energy for stunbreaks. Really wish the little bit of alacrity didn't cost 20 energy.

    I was experimenting with demolisher/undead

Yep, or sage/krait. And stunlock is my #1 bane playing rev in pvp. I tried the toughness/condi route too with undead runes, but toughness does nothing in the face of condi comps, whereas vitality is always useful. Just trying to make the most of range + bleed to put more energy into kiting and supporting allies, especially with stab for stomps/revives. Use slow & KD to keep melee opponents away so you're not pressured so hard. If you fight like a herald you die immediately, just hang back and disengage quickly, your bleeds are working overtime for you.

Comparing skills 1:1 in a vacuum doesn't always mean something's overpowered and in the overall picture it's not overwhelming anymore, but man some of the tooltips Vindi has are nuts

You're right, that's why I said inherently tough to balance, not inherently overpowered. Similar issues elementalist faces with attunements - you have such a big kit, does ANet make each of your 20+ weapon skills relatively weak so you have to spam faster rotations for the same results as other classes, or do you end up superpowered in skilled hands? Revenant was built around having two legends, so usually two heals, two stunbreaks. Having access to a third legend at a time introduced a balance issue that ANet thus far only fixes by adjusting numbers rather than addressing underlying mechanics.

The root of the problem with renegade in spvp is that most of its condition damage is through torment with movement impairing condis and ccs in non-condi weapons like hammer and off-hand sword. I would suggest something like immob on the second pulse of axe 5 so that torment can tick better if enemies don't cleanse it. (In gw2skills.net it says it pulls in the enemy in the description  but it doesn't have it under control, and I haven't ever seen any pulling when I use it. maybe that could be added as well if it doesn't have it.)

Condi herald relies on torment, condi renegade is better built to rely on bleed. Look at what its traits and short bow synergize with. Try viewing the burning and torment more like cover conditions for your crazy bleeds.

People need to bring a shift by pushing new builds against the meta so that we can create a cycle and eventually Renegade will see itself brought back.

Off-meta ftw. I'm having fun with renegade right now. You can get so much bleed damage with a little investment and put all the rest of your build in utility. I run shiro/jalis condi renegade for the mobility and stability. I like Kalla, but her spirits are kind of a joke in pvp, they get pushed around and cleaved down without even being targeted. Mallyx is great too, but you really need the mobility from shiro. Stability is too important in this stunlock meta too, esp when you desperately need to win downstate game against enemy scrappers.

You can get +80% bleed duration with over 1700 condi dmg and +25% bleed dmg. It surprises people losing 30% of their HP a second. You apply bleeding and cover condis often enough that unless someone's got tons of condi cleanse, the pressure stays high. Just stay cognizant of projectile hate and don't waste shots on mesmers while theyre surrounded by pink stuff.

Which is okay on vindi with those insane dodges, and 3 heal spells, but not renegade

Yeah, 3 utility bars is inherently tough to balance. They slapped Vindi down recently so it's not dominating, but to me it's just bad design. I think it should either have 3 actual legend slots (right now, you dont reset energy going b/w Luxon and Kurzick) and just one weapon set, OR consolidate the legends to one utility bar and lean more into the unique dodge. My simple proposal:

Condi doesn't work well with staff offhand, and when your bow attacks do actually land. You need them to do big damage fast cause ppl will cleanse those condis so fast these days.

Sure it does. Staff is your defensive weapon. It's true you can do better dmg with it on a power build, but I wouldn't say it doesn't work well on condi. I run mace/axe + staff condi herald all the time. Staff is pure defensive utility with CC, condi cleanse, blind, blocks, and a blast finisher. You can alternatively go sword/shield on herald and get a bit of torment on sword from Abyssal Chill trait. Condi renegade can go sword/axe for the CC, evade, and axe4 port for a more offensive alt set. Hammer is a niche pick, but the projectile block does help secure stomps.

The meta has changed a lot in 30+ seasons, and idk if its just me but it feels horrendous right now? The meta is very narrow, and is not very fun to play. Glass cannons and CC spam for days.

The player base feels microscopic! I am constantly seeing the same names in my matches, and fortunately a lot of the names are quite salty individuals - which makes the game /s so much fun /s.

Half the games i play some teammates will start bickering with each other and someone will sit at home and throw the match.

Yes. This is the worst meta I've experienced. PvP will remain a game mode you endure, rather than enjoy, unless ANet ever decides to give it a lot of attention. Competitive integrity, balance, new content, reward structures, revamping HotM... lots on the to-do list if they ever decide it's worth the effort.

I don't want new races.  New races don't add anything of value to the game, in my opinion.  I'd prefer Anet spend their resources on other things that would have a more substantial impact to the game and a larger portion of the player base.

Sure. It's not like this is a role-playing game or anything where character creation and fashion are a huge part of the player experience. Choosing your race is only the first choice you make with major consequences for storyline and experience. How could a sixth option possibly add value? 😛

Not sure that's so obivous, similarly like I'm not sure it really is "a huge portion of the playerbase" in the first place.
Seems like a negligible value in terms of impacting the gameplay and if I had a choice between anet creating new race along with making it compatibile with the past outfits/armor skins vs them adding even half of a new map or some more group content or another set of especs ooor adding more weapon types compatibility for the current classes/especs, it's an easy choice for me. It's quite literally anything but a new race.

The first responses to this post chastized OP for repeating such a frequent request. Same trend on reddit. You are of course free to disagree with prioritizing a new race, but the truth is lots of people want it.

That's okay. This request gets brought up so often because obviously a huge portion of the playerbase DOES want new playable races. ANet can do multiple things. Like, I don't play WvW. But I'm not poopooing on everyone's requests for WvW to get attention. This is a theme park MMO, everybody's got their favorite rides and the ones they don't care about.

  10. If ANet had allowed you to choose your character's voice instead of making voice actors race-specific, they could have had the freedom to come out with new races like most MMOs. But they dug themselves into a hole with an early design decision, and it would be extremely expensive to make a new race and having to record two new voice actors over every line in the game.

But... if they updated character creation to allow us to choose our voice, maybe with a pitch modulator like many games have, they could make a new race and "only" have the armor issue remaining. I think many of us would accept a new race with limited armor options over never getting to play as Tengu or Largos.

This request is made so often, I really hate seeing people spit on it with their arguments for why it'll never happen. Y'all know you want new races too and are just bitter. Think outside the box a little.

So yeah the real threat comes from a well coordinated duo.

I'm just gonna echo this every time I see it cuz I think this runs deeper than any particular quibble with a spec or build being OP.

Coordinated teams fighting uncoordinated teams is inherently unfair. Competitive PvP games should never place duos alongside solo queue in ranked modes. Unranked, whatever, bring your whole guild and make new players hate the game I guess, but not in ranked.

Dodging is called "block" and happens while immobilized or crowd controlled, even if the model itself is not moving.

Are you kidding me?? THAT's why the necro dummy randomly has block... Playing since launch, man. Never knew.

Yes, PvP could use love in a lot of ways, and we all know HotM is the most depressing map in the game. Soooo deserving of an overhaul. Lots of good points raised.

EDIT: Wanna highlight the point you raised about masteries too. Totally agree that having the Pact movement speed boost messes with training. PvP training area should have PvP conditions, full stop. If it were sections of the map that disabled masteries, that would be awesome.

I think that this is something that people miss a lot. You can't build to cover all weaknesses. If people take some time to look across all the professions there are often choices within tiers that offer defense of one sort or another, but often they compete directly with each other. You can have impregnable defense versus 1 thing but be weak to others, okay defense against multiple things, or none at all depending on your build.

OP just didn't build to defend against CC and met a CC build.

I agree and this is valid. My class (revenant) is specifically countered by stunlock. I can avoid one stunlock berserker throughout a match or be prepared to dodge/block/blind their big moves. But that didn't inspire this post. Stunlock isn't a huge issue until it becomes the meta and gets multiplied by duos.

What I've been seeing lately is stunlock builds on multiple people per team. I run into burst duos who are specifically building one-shot stunlock builds. When a team comp has 2-4 people with multiple CCs and immob, you can't time dodges against multiple people at once. Teamfights become a foregone conclusion. Overall I think CC availability is too high. I bring a ton of multi-target CC on my herald. It's obnoxious but it's a dominant strategy, and I don't like it. Just part of the overall power creep I suppose.

Of course, an organized party could respond to the meta, prioritize bringing stability and group stunbreaks... My real enemy might be duo queue existing alongside solo queue. An organized team that exploits high CC availability is simply unfair to place against a team of solos. I don't believe we have competitive integrity in sPvP, there's just too many ways ANet lets people manipulate matches.

  14. It's obnoxious, right? I mean, I prefer this over the bunker meta some years back. At least it's more engaging. But staring at my disabled skillbar after my one (or two, if I'm lucky) stunbreak is used when the power burst duo has six more CCs up their sleeves... blind gets cleansed, oh and they might have signet of might to ignore blocks for good measure.

TBH most of my wins, I'm bursting people down and they're probably annoyed. Most of my losses I'm dying to stunlock, rarely anything else. I can cleanse condi, I can line-of-sight range, I can Z-axis melee, I can bait traps. "One-shot" builds without stunlock I can successfully disengage from. Even 3v1s without stunlock I can retreat from. I'm no facetanker. But stunlock just makes me throw my hands up and wanna play something else.

Is stunlock understood to be OP right now or should I just git gud?

  15. You're asking too much of matchmaking. There simply are not enough players online queueing at the same time to produce consistently fair games. This game's pvp is an abandoned community. If you enjoy it, great, if not, we gotta find another game out there to scratch the itch.

Good players can't climb ranks if they play solo support or bunker, because those roles can't carry. And if you go damage, time spent capping points is time not farming the bad players on the other team.

In essence, you have to play around your bad players' decisions, conscious or not, instead of them following your lead. To alleviate this, good players will often duo to have more influence. Games and builds degenerate into "who farms noobs fastest". Some class designs are inherently better at this.

What can be done? Remove unranked, promote hotjoin, and use spectate mode for learning and community. Bad players, play tankier builds and focus on map control first.

This is all a pretty succinct summary of what we experience. I would urge you to clarify hotjoin vs unranked because many of us would balk at everybody being thrown into ranked. I think you mean hotjoin IS the new unranked, it just functions more like custom arenas with drop-in/drop-out and spectating.

  17. Really disorienting bug with the dragonhunter tooltips displaying on firebrand, I see it too. I also had the tome page counter disappear and the firebrand tomes moved to where core guardian virtues are. Firebrand currently super janky.

It's still is an amazing skill for zerg fights in WvW, tbh.

That's true for any ranged AoE, just the nature of blob fights. If you get close to the blob you insta-die so people stay stacked for boons and cleanse and take potshots from a distance. WvW should not be the reason that meteor shower, revenant hammer, warrior rifle, deadeye rifle etc have to suffer in PvE and PvP. Totally different applications. Just split the skills.

Yeah I want more stat choices as well. Ultimately I'd just like to choose my own stats tbh, instead of pre-determined stat choices.

This has been my complaint with GW2's gearing system since launch, but it tends to fall on deaf ears. In GW1 you directly chose "attributes" and could modify them only slightly with your gear. Don't think I've seen any other RPGs that lock you into stat spreads so rigidly like GW2. You can mix and match stats per piece, but that's a very weird way to choose your spread.
