I understand that PR speak is all about generating hype. But you guys read things wrong. Grouch said that the team is about the size of EoD AFTER launch, not during EoD development, thats very different things. Cos ppl get hired do a job for the expansion then leave, other went to other companies so it is very different the team size during development of EoD and after the launch of EoD that is what grouch said.

Anyway it is just PR speak and we are all seeing the scope and quality of the new expansions, it is worst than LWS4, EoD etc...

Our current team size is roughly what it was during the development of Living World Season 4 and about 15% larger than it was at the release of End of Dragons in 2022. Thanks to the support of our fans, we’ve been able to grow our team in recent years, but we’ve been very careful not to expand too quickly or beyond our means. Maintaining stability for our employees is a top priority for myself and the rest of our leadership team.

Please refer to this quoted tweet and stop ignoring the facts. Doomer takes are only taken seriously when they don't contain blatant lies.

Honestly, when it comes to voices, I would say that the solution would be to not use new voices at all; use the old ones. Take, I don't know, the Asura VO, alter the pitch a little, layer on some bird sounds, and bam, you've got Tengu. You'd still need to record some new lines (the race-specific parts of the Personal Story, a few other voice lines in the story that are race-specific, probably some new combat barks), but it would bring it into the realm of a doable project.

Of course, that still leaves the issue of getting armor pieces working on a new race (although they have done a little of that with the Tengu).

I'm sorry but that is a terrible idea. Anet has crafted such intricate races each with their own culture, religion, family structure, naming patterns, government, etc.

Even now its so easy to tell who said a quote SOLELY based on what they said and not what voice it was in. So if you took an asura VO and changed the pitch, it would be immediately clear who they took that voice from. It would ruin the races of tyria by being disingenuous and not true to how they talk or act.

It's something other games with cookie cutter races can do, but if you actually start to have unique races it becomes much harder, and why would you essentially taint your IP to do something so pointless.

Yes, i know. I also know that LS4 was when Anet pushed most of the devs off GW2 towards other projects, which resulted in things like cancellation of Expansion 3, IBS, and layoffs. EoD was when they were barely recovering from both. If you are comparing the sizeof the teams, both are actually times when those were at its worst. Much smaller than the team they had post-HoT, when they were able to concurrently work on LS3 and PoF (even though Anet's overall dev count was bigger later - and still is - it does not mean much if those devs aren't working on GW2).

Again, Anet "getting through period of growth when other companies suffered massive layoffs" is just due to the fact that Anet got through that layoff phase a bit earlier.

Right but his quote is saying that the team is as big as it was during LWS4 development (pre-layoffs). That means we are back to the size of the team that delivered LWS4. That's a great thing to have, now we have no data on how many of those are working on gw2 or not or if this only includes people working on gw2. So that would be unwise to speculate on considering we have no base to go off of. So all we can go by is that the team is at a really healthy size right now.

Notice that this 15% growth is compared to the post-layoff state that saw a loss of one-third (at least, possibly more considering the wave of people quitting in months after it happened) of Anet's employees.

Grouch said that the team is about as large as it was during the development of LWS4 and about 15% larger than during the development of EoD. That was the exact quote.

GW2 has stabilized in recent times but they don't actually make as much as you think. 20,000 million krw is less than 15 million usd. So let's say about 5 million usd per month. Considering the total costs they will have every month of equipment, offices, software and mostly the salaries of staff, that's not actually a whole lot. And it's probably the reason why NcSoft cut their staff a few years ago.

How is 70 million dollars not enough for a live service game?? This is more than enough and its the reason NCSoft has greenlit their next 2 expansions. The layoffs in 2019 had nothing to do with low revenue and more to do with the fact that they tried to make another game using gw2 revenue and it didn't come to fruition so they abandoned it and the layoffs ensued.

Since 2022 ANET's workforce has grown by 15% while most other tech and game companies have had massive layoffs.

A new race simply wouldn't add enough value to justify all the work. For a new race they had to do a lot of work such as adding new models, faces, hairs, adding new personal story chapters, adjust all skins, add two new voices for all existing voice lines and much more.

Well keep in mind it's 2 new voices only in ENGLISH. The game is voiced in French and German too. So it would be more like 6 new voices.

The test zone was available last year for 3-1, we shall see how it progresses this year.  I do not  personally like or enjoy SAB, so don't really want them to spend more time or money on it, but I can see the interest for anyone who does.

I don't see anywhere that it is definite on not having w3-1?   I'm sure it is not priority over some of the other content.

Exactly. I don't expect it, but the links IC posted don't provide any specific confirmation on whether there will or won't be any progress.

The realm of dreams teaser article talks about 'some addition to world 3 test zone'. The test zone was relatively small last year but was honestly very exciting and I was happy to receive but was expecting this year's SAB to drop with the release of W3-Z1. Not a few additions to the test zone. Nonetheless, I am not really furious just a bit sad and was hoping for a bit more since the switch to yearly expansions was supposed to be to free up resources to allow for core game support.

Are we going to get some specifics as to what is in this BETA test?  The link is to the article published 2 years ago and is very vague. What tools will the leaders of the Alliances have to manage the groups.

I can't wait until sPVP gets years of developer time and infrastructure updates in order to figure out it's match making. Oh wait, it's just the one game mode that gets any update at all? 5 years of nothing in sPVP what so ever? That's cool. Thanks Anet.

What updates are you talking about? The mode is finished. It's PvP, balance patches and elite specs are your content. League of legends doesn't add anything else than balance and characters to their game. They don't even add maps. What else do you want??

  10. I love this idea, a proper inspect would be amazing. With this card that you can create, it could be another cool reward to receive or hunt down. The inspect would reveal the toon, and “about me” (great for role playing), the gear skins they are wearing, etc.

For a game dubbed fashion wars, it sure could use a ton of new ways to display your fashion and build your character.  ALSO the fact that we don’t have a gear/skin inspect is really dumb.
