  1. Ok, well I guess that covered the what and how, but I'm still struggling with the why?

Gliding and mounts gave me new and dynamic ways to experience the world and forever changed how I play the game. I use them both all the time. I'm still struggling to understand the point of fishing? Or a multiplayer skimmer?

I'm sure it'll be fun for 5 minutes and the collectionists will have something to keep them quiet for a couple of days, but then what? Why will I ever want to go back and fish again?

New recipes? I hardly use most of the ones I've got. Mobility? I've got mounts. Chilling out? That's what I play the game for! If I want to sit around doing nothing I'll go read a book or watch TV.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't get it. This is looking about as useful as those Raven masteries from IBS.

I really hope there's more to come, because if this is all they've got then EOD is going to be a total disappointment.

I think one big question to ask ourselves is what would we put instead of skiff or fishing?

How about a serious upgrade/revamp to underwater combat - sadly neglected since launch?

More skills, masteries, mounts, etc to revitalise what used to be a pretty cool experience. New underwater legendaries (even an aquabreather).

It even makes sense from a lore perspective - the only dragon left is bubbles, and we gotta go past him to get to Cantha. We could finally meet the largos, find out what happened to the krait and quaggans.

    • Zhaitan: Straights of Devastation, Malchor's Leap, Cursed Shore, + Arah dragon fight
    • Mordremoth: Verdant Brink, Auric Basin, Tangled Depths, + Dragon's Stand dragon fight
    • Kralkatorrik: Domain of Vabbi, Jahai Bluffs, Thunderhead Peaks, + Dragonfall dragon fight
    • Jormag: Bitterfrost Frontier, Bjora Marches, Drizzlewood Coast + Dragonstorm dragon fight
    • Primordus: Ember Bay, Draconis Mons, the DRMs, + Dragonstorm dragon fight

Primordus got more then just 10 minutes, he got pretty much the exact same amount of story content the other dragons did. Had Champions not existed he would have gotten one new map(likely in the Centaur Homelands), and then we would have gone into the Dragonstorm meta battle where both died. Its the same 3 maps + a dragon fight Anet had used since Zhaitan.

And while he didn't get his 3rd map, all the story stuff they would have done on that map was moved to the DRMs. so you can't even really say he lost any story time either.

That's far too simplistic an analysis, and misses the point. The complaint isn't about the number of maps with destroyer minions or dragon influence, it's about the story and interactions between the hero (the player character) and the villain (particularly Primordus, though the Jormag arc also felt rushed to the end).

Although Primordus has been around since EOTN and we even met him in S3E5, he has never actually been active in our presence, just a lurking menace. Given his stature as the first of the elder dragons, and all the build up, he deserved to actually DO something to justify that stature. As it was he was rushed off stage before he ever really arrived.

The whole Champions chapter felt rushed, dropped plot lines, and failed to justify the build up. That's why I'm disappointed, and whatever happens with EOD this will remain a low point that could (and should) have been so much more.

I was able to buy gems at the discounted price during the sale too, and I'm in the UK.

Ok, fair enough then. It didn't work for me sadly. I went to gamecardsdirect and added the card to my basket at 40 EUR, and when I went to pay it changed it to 40 GBP. That's about 5% less than the normal 42.50 GBP on the gemstore, so I guessed it was probably a favourable currency rate or something. With a 1.5% card transaction fee, it wasn't really worth it (I didn't see a paypal option).

Having gone back to have a look today, it appears they normally sell them at 50 GBP so I guess it was a 20% discount, but when the normal price is a 15% markup it's not that great really.

I don't have much experience of buying stuff online in other currencies so I guess I must have missed something.

  5. Devs August 2019: We're gonna do another LW season saga instead of an expansion, but don't worry it'll be expansion level content.

Devs April 2021: Here's another 20 mins of instanced content and another pointless mastery - but hey, you got all those repetitive achievements to grind so that'll keep you busy...

If that was expansion-level content then I don't want to know what they've got planned for EOD.

  6. Yeah - it's £40 via that site (which is <6% discount on the normal £42.50) and then some weird payment methods that add transaction fees. Think I'll wait for the UK gem sale to appear in GBP, so we actually get a discount! 🙂
