I see veterans I have known for years leaving the game or only sporadically logging in anymore, while my guild chats have been filling up with new names of new players. I am beginning to see a pattern here:

    With...

    • the recent Steam release,
    • the fact that new legendary armor sets were made SotO-only, so that new players who start with SotO can grind for the QoL convenience,
    • some mounts and gliding being made available in an easier way,
    • the new in-game shortcuts provided by the Wizard's Vault and the Gem Store,
    • the small size of Update 1,
    • the increase in no-fun grind achievements,
    • the lack of exciting new instanced content (of proper difficulty),

... and some other recent aspects in the development of the game, I am wondering if it is ANet's deliberate intention to attract and only cater to new players now?

Are hardcore players who have been around since release no longer lucrative customers? Or what other reason is there for us to be left without anything fun to do in our favorite MMORPG?

Oh the horror that a game is trying to attract new players rather than catering to old players who have already achieved pretty much everything in the game and want to play the game more casually. Shocking

To me the new expansion screems: "Buy me now"

New legy armory: All of them looking for real good ( I also Like the medium and light ones of the old legys but the heavy one was Just pure Trash to me) i rly wana Grind them even while i do not like to grind things at all (PvP Main)

Easier to get Dragonscale: Was just needed even while I get it allready. The old way was just pure stupid things to do (3 Times running though a big Map and find things was the meant stupid thing) so making this easier to get is a big plus

New Rune Mechanic: hmm idk it open the window for more build crafting. Aside this it will maybe going to Power creep the Game. I gues we need to see.

More Weapon Choices: Love it! New Builds incoming. Means more Build Crafting and stuff. (But also more things to Balance out)

I feel great about everything. Let's hope this expansion attracts new players. I want GW2 to be more popular.

Why time consuming part is neglected? Again, it required dedication for several days. What's the point of mastery if everyone has it? Next thing you know, auto-loot is FFA because people want it unlocked at lvl 80. Where is the borderline of catering to that audience? According to your own words, unlocking skyscale is no big deal — agreed — but then why not leave the things as they are, basically deprecating old content? Skyscale rental could motivate a new player to get permanent access to skyscale at some point. Now it's FFA. Minor bonuses don't cut it.

Hard part should be the activity itself. Prolonging it artificially by gatekeeping content which take days to unlock isn't hard. That's what I meant. The only hard part was the jumping puzzles. Everything else can be done while you chill watching Netflix or some stream in the background. For me it doesn't matter if others have the same mastery as I do as long as I have more players to play with and healthy population. I want to see more new players in this expansion.

I'm not down with a streamlined system for getting a skyscale. Many of us nearly quit the game trying to get one and now ANet is just going to hand them out? Not cool, not cool at all. It's such a badge of honor. If you want to give casual players a flying mount, then make it something different, don't make it the same thing dedicated fans worked REALLY HARD to get. I'm not happy.

Worked hard? I got skyscale in few days following guides on YouTube. Nothing about getting Skyscale is hard. Time consuming yes but not hard. And i don't feel special for having a skyscale either.  If this new system means new players will join GW2 I am all for it. The population of this game need a serious boost. Stop gatekeeping potential new customers.

I’ve played this game since day one and I’ve definitely seen most of the content. Once you hit endgame, you’ll most likely be on a hunt for the most epic gear in the game. Legendary weapons aren’t just looking awesome, they’re a token of your effort and skill as a top tier player. Other players immediately understand you must be one strong dude and are looking forward to crafting one themselves one day.

    Or so it should be.

Unfortunately, with the gemstore making more and more insanely looking weapons available to the average joe, aside from a few benefits, they completely lost their significance. Even people that have just started playing are running around looking like shiny unicorns and it makes me feel like all the effort I made to get my legendaries was kind of a waste.

So why not buy a few epic skins then?

I feel like epic gear should be something that makes you want to keep playing the game and try out more challenging content. And what else is there to do after you’ve seen everything to game has to offer? If I would just buy, then what incentive is there for playing raids or T4 fractals? Money? To buy what?

I understand this is a free game, and they need to make money somehow, but there should’ve been a line. I think weapons skins like the ones you find at The Vaults in LA  are acceptable, but anything with some kind of effect or animation should not have been there.

There is no way Anet would undo some of these changes, so in that sense this post is kind of pointless, but I’m very curious if more people feel discouraged to keep playing because of this.

Been playing this game for a decade and not once i saw someone in legendary and thought he is some tough or epic dude. What are you even talking about here?

The freaking 500 gems for every single build and equipment slot.

I come back to GW2, log in, I'm completely out of the loop of builds and what I want to do is try out the new profession specializations. Except I would have to delete my old saved builds to do that.

For example my engineer has three builds saved, a solo build, a raid build and a buffer. Now if I want to try the new mechanist I'm going to have to delete one of my old builds or fork over more cash for every single character I have.

I'm fine with the overpriced microtransactions mostly, but the build and equipment templates should offer freedom, not restrictions..

We already monetize character slots, bag space, storage space, cosmetics, gold but come on something as basic as build templates.

I've spent hundreds if not thousands on GW2 over the last 10 years and I'm just so tired of not even being able to simply have basic freedom to try a new spec without writing everything down or forking over cash. I'm tired of this overmonetization. And instead of playing again, it's too tedious to get back into it.

yes rant yes probs will get negative feedback, whatever. this is my feedback to Anet. That's all. Give characters at least a template slot for every elite spec in the game. If you want to monetize bonus slots after that, fine.

A game which encourages you to try new builds for different game modes and has specialised class system. Having to pay to unlock build slots never made any sense to me.

Ok, that's pretty funny. I wouldn't say it's outrageous because I'm not interested anyways -if someone wants to splurge 1600 gems on a jadebot skin, then hf with that 🤷‍♂️

Like you mentioned, 400-800 would probably be more in line with what it is, but it would still be all the same to me tbh.

It is outrageous though. If could keep my jade bot out as long as i want i might even spend 1600 gems but for something you see for few seconds at a time it's crazy price

I know a lot of gw2 content creators are telling people "People overacting" Or "Whining over a balanced patch." This Isn't the case anymore. The death threats were uncalled for, and I hope the people who made them got banned, but lets be honest here. If you think that even 20% of the community are calling for the dev's head, you're sadly mistaken. At best there's maybe like 1% of the population who are most likely doing that, and even then I think 1% is too generous. Point is, The Extremely toxic groups are a few bad apples spoiling a bunch, and we shouldn't be paying attention to those type of people.

What you have to understand that this huge backlash didn't happen overnight. This have been building up for a while now. The end of Dragon meta was the first sign where people were slowly getting fed up. But let me make this clear. It wasn't the patch note that ultimately send the community into a frenzy, as conversational as it is. It was merely a stepping stone for what came after that really RILED people up. Anyone who were surprised by this outcome, or didn't think the community would be capable of such thing, they either haven't payed any attention at all, or were too naive to understand why all of this happen.

The truth of the matter is, Anet? The leaks have caused a huge distress among your community. That is something no one should pretend didn't happen. No matter how many purges you do, we're in a age where people can archive those type of information for all to see if people look hard enough. Any conspiracy theories people had about the dev team came into fruition, any faith people have with you are now gone. And people genuinely believe their class are bad because they're not being favoritize by the devs, and that's a problem. We shouldn't be in a situation where people now know that their class are garbage because the devs doesn't care about it.

This whole situation created a stigma where people understandably don't trust you guys anymore. Again, content creators goes on to tell people that Anet might not want to talk to us again, but how about the people who now know that their class isn't being given the "Favoritism" Treatment? Why bother giving feedback at all, when it's now confirmed that it gets dismissed, or at worst, patronized by the devs? Hell, one of the devs have to use Wiki as a reference so they can balanced a skill they know nothing about. That is embarrassing to a lot of folks, myself included.

I think this is important to point out because the last thing that should happen is to muddle the main reason people have such a problem with the patch, and why they acted the way they did, for good or ill. And I think this is something that needs to be addressed, and I didn't feel like anet did that in the follow up thread.

If the DE meta didn't made me quite in frustration this patch surely will. I might come back in few months and see if anything changes.

Was with a meta running group in dragons end, we tried to join an instance and found that there was a large fishing group that refused to leave due to losing stacks. We told them they would lose stacks when the meta is failed anyways, and they still refused. We also found a botting group on the south side of the map of about 7 necros. We really need a way to allow fishing stacks to save temporarily for people leaving meta maps because these things are ruining meta runs. We also really need a way to boot botters. Its just dumb.

It's a dead horse at this point. ANET doesn't care. They had plenty of feedback since release. Time to move on.

No no no. If you try to teach and explain mechanics, people will insult you for being a toxic elitist. Just look at all the hate Teapot got and is still getting.

Funny how I can clear DE every single day just by using the LFG. Exaggerations much?

Every single day on EU servers? Please feel free to send me a friend request and invite me when this magical group  clears DE every single day. I would like to join because i cant find it. I will wait for you in game

I would be very interested in the completion percentages for this fight. It's rare to even see it in LFG even during primetime any more.

And it is easy to see why - a 1.5 to 2 hour time commitment with a high chance of failure due to factors out of the player's control.  Im all for complex fights in open world, but they need to be at realistic intervals/length and they cannot rely on dps races/timers to create an artificial sense of difficulty.

Last week i only saw one group in LFG and it was asking for raid only players so casuals had no chance. I am on EU servers. It's dead. I go there daily to farm jades. I hear all kind of excuses when some new players asks why it's dead. "Oh it's Sunday evening, oh it's Saturday everyone out enjoying,  oh it's just Monday so people must be tired from work, it's too early, it's too late and yada yada. Funny how this never effects HOT maps and other three maps in EOD which are done daily regardless of time or day of the week.

Why quote me if you're going to ignore what was said in that quote? The video that you linked does not say what you claim it say; that EoD is bad. It didn't list the profitability in order of most to least either. As I stated previously, many have not realized the full earning potentials of EoD.

Did you even look at the link I posted? That's not my personal data but from a farming community website that many use as reference. Unless you think they fake all the data on their site.

Maybe DE is dead to you because you do not farm there. There's always quite a few different groups running the metas at prime time. And they're all open to casual players.

But if you truly dislike EoD, that's your prerogative. It still doesn't change the facts that EoD maps can be very lucrative for farming.

This whole discussion started with your comment that Drizzlewood is empty. You said the same about HOT that it's deserted. I am bored with going back and forth with you. Imagine thinking EOD especially DE is more active that Drizzlewood, Silverwaste or any of the HOT maps. 😂

I was wondering how populated meta events are these days? I have kind of been backing out of the game since beating the EoD campaign. The Dragon's End meta is fine but it's not my favorite. The thing I like most about GW2 is jumping into some random meta events throughout the world but it looks like most people are concentrating on DE. Has anyone been in big populations in any other meta's lately? Maybe I am just looking in the wrong places at the wrong time.

On EU servers. EOD metas seem to be getting less popular by day. DE is run maybe once or twice a week by few guilds but they only take people with raid experience. HOT and IBS are the most played metas right now along with Silverwaste. I feel sorry for new players who missed the rush at relase and would really struggle to complete DE and all associated Mastery points with it.

If you're going to claim something, then you provide links to prove your points. Not my job to prove it for you.

What you provided is just 1 example , and you take that as proofs? The video does not list in any order of profitability.

Here's a link to show how profitable EoD maps can be: Farm Train

Notice the top 2 profit/hour areas?

I already provided you the link. I don't know how else to tell you this but EOD rewards are pretty terrible in comparison when you take into account gold made per hour.  *Shrugs*. Also lol @ DE the dead map which only handful of guilds run nowdays with requirements that most causal players can't even fulfill.

Wrong information maybe from your personal experience. You implied you're from EU. Guess what? EU is not NA. Even if you have never come across a slow map, I have. And I'm sure others have as well. That's not wrong informations.  Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean that it never happens. Or are you suggesting that ONLY YOU have the correct info?

"There is not a single map in EOD which makes you 30 to 40 gold per hour. " So you have tested all the maps exhaustively? Or just do a couple of metas and do a couple of events , and conclude based on that?

Did I ever state that all the old maps are bad for gold? Read through my replies.I stated that EoD maps give decent loots.  I've done tons of RIBA, Drizzlewood, etc. I KNOW what kind of loots they give. What I'm saying below is that EoD maps are no worse than any other maps, And sometimes, even better.

Provide some links to videos where they say EoD maps are bad for loots in comparisons.  Also, how old are those videos? Dated after the released of EoD? If you can't then I can just turn around and say what you said were blatant lies as well. But as I said, then that'll be getting personal and not debating the issues. EoD is still new and players have not discovered all its potential yet.

They are decent for me in terms of loots, that's all it matters.

You could have done your own search. Here is one link for example. Only thing mentioned from EOD is leviathan but that is also at the bottom of the list. We are discussing the reason why so many players prefer older maps compared to EOD for rewards by the way. Not just one individuals personal experience and feelings. You enjoying EOD has nothing to do with the trend of old maps being still best for loot and rewards and that's something ANET needs to fix. Make EOD maps more viable in terms of loot.

Blatant lies? Please don't get personal in a discussion.

I base everything on my experience. Where do you think I farmed before EoD was released? I like EoD because it gives me more choices but I still farm all those maps including all the HoT, IBS, RIBA, etc. True, I spend more time in EoD atm but I haven't abandon the  rest. And will probably spend more time there once the novelty of new maps wears off somewhat.

Since when it's getting personal to call out wrong information? Your personal experience sounded more like universal one. For last two weeks i am farming drizzle for mats and significant otter achiev. Its not deserted even on Monday mornings. South meta is always active. There is not a single map in EOD which makes you 30 to 40 gold per hour. Thars the real reward in GW2 and then you keep wondering why people say older maps have better loot. Go look at some YouTube videos and streamers which maps they recommend to players for making gold. It's never EOD. And these people know GW2 inside and out
