    Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but I don't see it as of now.  They could surprise me with the mechanic and this buff, but I'm not seeing much that it brings to the table for such situations.  It still sounds just as "selfish" with its buffs.  Barring near invulnerability on the pet at certain times or similar, it's usefulness would still drop to zero if it still dies almost instantly.  With the huge cooldown that druid and core deal with, that would also block you from many traits and mechanics for extended periods.  Etc., etc.  We also know that CC skills were dropped to next to zero damage.

    I like your optimism, but I'm not sure what you see in it at this point that would give you that hope.

  2. I found this to be a huge disappointment, personally.  I still hold minor hopes for better control with the class mechanic, but otherwise it just looked like a GS ranger with some slight buffs to me.  In other words:  same old, same old mostly.

    Pretty much my reaction.  To be honest, I was really hoping for more of a GW1 Ritualist theme and not just another leap about and hit things with a big sword spec.

    I'll try to stay somewhat optimistic, too, but about the only thing that slightly interested me from that trailer and didn't give me a feeling of "Willbender, take 2" was the possible legend skills.  Variety is good, which *could* be the case with these, but my expectations sure dropped several notches.

    Same here, Super Hayes.  In general, the mage/elementalist type class is one that I really enjoy playing in games.  It was one of my most-played secondaries in GW1.  I cannot, however, enjoy it in GW2 with the almost mandatory feel of constant attunement swapping.  An elite spec that focuses on specialization in a couple of elements would be just my cup of tea.

  5. Ok, so this is something that has bothered me for a long time now and I cannot find it mentioned anywhere.  Can someone please tell me if this was a forgotten update or if there is a reason behind this?

     

    On the 10th of July 2018, an underwater version of Spike Trap was added to the game.  It mimicked the land-version as per usual with all skills that can be used underwater.  That meant that in PvE, the recharge was 45 seconds and the PvP/WvW version had a 30 second recharge (untraited).  However, in the balance patch of the 25th of February 2020, when the recharge was reduced from 30 seconds to 20 seconds in PvP/WvW, the underwater skill retained the previous 30 second recharge time.  This left three different recharge times on the skill in-game, and has not been changed to-date:

     

    -PvE's 45 seconds

    -PvP/WvW's 20 seconds on land

    -PvP/WvW's 30 seconds underwater

     

    Is there any other skill that shares this anomaly?

  6. As alluded to above, in order, my personal top three weapon choices would be:

     

    1. New one-handed javelin/throwing spear (Hey, dragonblood spears were added to some PoF content, there are NPC and enemy Paragons chucking spears in the Domain of Istan, and the revenant's underwater spear has 4 ranged, throwing attacks, so it's not that farfetched, right?)

    --Sticking to weapons already in the game, after that--

    2. Scepter

    3. Focus

     

    You keep mentioning nostalgia for the GW1 ranger, but really, besides a pet attack skill or two, the bunny thumper just used warrior skills with reduced energy requirement due to the expertise stat.  A greatsword core ranger of GW2 feels close enough to that for me in functionality.

     

    The same would be the case if the underwater spear was allowed for land-use as I've seen some call for, as to my mind, it's pretty much the same thing as the greatsword for the ranger apart from a short whirl and reflect on skill 2.

     

    I also just greatly prefer more ranged combat, myself.  I'm with DeanBB in that the only hammer I'd want to see would be a thrown one.

Not only do I get bored out of my mind playing pure melee; not only am I still rooting for either a javelin thrower with proper aoe since my trowing traps were taken away long ago or more of the shaman that I would have liked druid to be; but I feel the role doesn't bring anything that new and is kind of just more of the same "plus knockdown".  Big no from me.  So much so that I'd very likely quit playing if that was the announcement I faced.
