IMO you will at least need an exotic Berserker set or another class you can run as an alternate or you will be VERY limited on what raids you can be useful on. Many/Most bosses use toughness (highest) designates that person as tank and new players really should not be tanking, unless you know all the raid fights already and are comfortable with them. Minstral's also isnt needed unless you are tanking in raids. Most people will be upset with you for running Minstral's for raids unless you are tank because it will tank what ever dps you otherwise might have.

Also Im not trying to be critical. Im happy to see you here asking questions and happy to see new players. Im trying to spare you the trouble of joining a raid to have squad members tell you this in game chat. Minstral's support or tank can be fine in W2, W6, and Sabetha and a few other fights so its also possible to focus those and learn to tank the others, but I would really consider getting a berserker set or setup a simple alternative like staff DD, DH, etc that you can swap to for dps when support isnt needed.

Hi, thank you for your input! I'm pretty fine with most of the bosses in raids (except of w5 and w6), so I would like to learn them being a tank. I also gave several other classes to change the role. But I really want to get the idea of chrono tank. I have been tanking with hfb, but I did not like, that for some encounters like xera and qtp, chrono was better. That's why I'm here - to push aside those blue mantra caster with a purple one :D

So I do have a sword that I bring with me and pair it with the focus just for the additional boon stripping if we need. So 71% has been enough for me as we get the extra concentration from the Chaotic Persistence trait.
Also, Anet pretty much nerfed all of our boon durations so…again, a lot of our stuff has been given to other professions without being phased by reduction etc.. and remember, since we’re tanking, we’ll likely have a Guardian (and now a Harbinger) that might provide quickness already. Some might have a problem with overlapping quickness but for ME, and the build I provided, I’m not switching skills over just because we have too much of something because the next thing you know, my quickness or alacrity teammate ends up mis stepping and is dead, then what do we have?

So the wells I have are a good emergency but at the end of the day, the up time with 71% is sufficient FOR ME and the XX amount of raids I’ve done to get my full legendary gear.

Okay, I got your point. Thank you one more time for being so explicit and sharing the experience!

    Morning/Afternoon!

So I have 3 sets of gear and attached is my support build I run for raids and sometimes other open world content when I just want to help other players.

My personally preference, I love wells and they seem the most impactful to me especially the Well of Eternity which gets everyone back to full health if one of the healers can’t.

To answer your question about if Boon/Heal Chrono is viable? It’s viable when I’m using it and I’ve never had any problems when I’m tanking + providing boons. Before I took Sword but realized Scepter would be better when paired with the Illusionary Inspiration trait.

Now if you just want to provide boons while dealing a decent amount of damage, you can adjust your gear to Diviners but most of the time when I’m raiding depending on the Wing, I’m either Tanking, CMirage or DPS. I don’t play a DPS+Boon build as I can provide that AND more with the build I provided above.

    Hopefully that helps.

Hi, thank you for such a detailed response. Indeed this is the build I was mainly thinking of (although, slightly different). Interesting, you picked runes for regen, which perfectly make sense coupled with chaos traits, I never thought of this source of regen. Though, I have 2 questions for you: have you though about the sword offhand and does it provide anything on top of your build? And the second is if 71% of boon duration is enough to maintain permanent quickness (and alacrity maybe)?

  3. Hi all, I am sort of a new player. Made chronomancer in minstrel gear recently for raiding. I have checked guides on snowcrows and hardstuck, but this GS option seems for me just a facetanking with little space for defensive skills (shield 4 and scepter 2?). Also I am not sure that this build is capable of many boon generation except of quickness. And I have some doubts about the healing output. I'd rather have chrono tank as chaos - inspiration lines with sword on swap. And for utility instead of mantras will take wells for quickness/alacrity. Plus protection and aegis generation. All in all, my question is if minstrel chronomancer is a viable replacement of hfb, and what is the style of playing: tankish-boon through sword and chaos traits, or healing with GS and domination. Please, share your thoughts on it. Thanks all!
