To be clear, I think you're talking about high-end group play.  The OP is concerned with open world solo play, where they are struggling with sustain.

Full DPS builds in high-pressure solo play will either not finish at all or will produce similar or significantly slower times due to having to play so much defense.  There's a great video of a power chronomancer doing the same fight in 38 seconds.  If you watch after the initial successful clip he shows some of the failed attempts.  It required pretty much perfect timing of cooldowns to pull this off, despite having a comparable clear time to much tankier builds.

It is, of course, a different story when you have support.  You don't have to focus on defense so much as you have healers and your damage stats are magnified by support, making the difference between tanky stats and glass stats much greater in terms of damage output.

same my point. not stack more def stat. solo meta builds not raid with support. for example a condi virto, alac mech and a scourge......u dont focus on def and lose dps lol.....u just facetank most champ with full dps rotation. those builds are soo high dps with sustain into its dps rotation.......lol of course power chro die its not sustainable solo on champ. the point is the right build with high dmg and sustain synergy in its rotation and traits. done bye.

Tanky stats can make a pretty huge difference, even more so if you're good at utilizing active defense.  In high-pressure scenarios, glass stats may not allow you to achieve equilibrium (i.e. endless sustain).  If you don't kill everything and get out of combat, you eventually succumb to the damage.  By contrast, achieving equilibrium is much easier with tanky stats so that even if you require more time to kill, it may not matter as you can sustain indefinitely.

It's even possible with some builds that the sustain from tanky stats is enough to allow you to play far more aggressively, more than making up for the lost damage.  Although this is generally more of a thing for condi builds than it is for power, due to the 3-stat requirement on power damage.

    For example:

Balthazar solo in 50 seconds with glass stats

Balthazar solo in 40 seconds with tank stats

The tanky stats make it so I don't even have to dodge or heal and can focus completely on dealing damage.  My health stays almost full the entire fight.  By comparison, I'm forced to dodge or otherwise avoid more than half of the incoming attacks using glass stats and my health is nearly spent by the end of the fight.

Of course, not everyone is worried about champ solos.  If we're talking just killing open world trash mobs, something as simple as a little extra vitality on your gear can give you enough cushion without killing your damage output.  This is why marauder is often recommended over berserker for players struggling with sustain.

hmmm...this concept overall is not wrong. it applies at the start...its logical...it helps. but when u use top builds, at higher difficulty content, its no more about def and hp, its about killing it faster before it kills u, or not getting hit at all with positioning and timing of block n dodge etc. getin sustain from full dps build mechanic( eg, always full blade from max crit to use block skill, or % of full condi dmg as healing) rather thn sacrificing stats to put more in def n hp.  do keep this in mind, the landscape shifts at a certain point when u go higher and higher. for newbies its much easier to use something like celestial stats that works with alot of builds and can deliver impressive dps as well as sustain because that stat combination is still broken in terms of how many stat points it gives overall.

the logic about the balthazar fight is not wrong in a simple build scenario, but with the top builds of every class played correctly, the full dps version will finish first 99.% of the time.  keep that in mind OP, as u progress in knowledge and skill

  3. should do core lv80 maps first....those are the learning incline. most importantly even more thn ur gear is your build. there are many vaible builds that work for each class. once u use one....everything clicks and is smooth and almost everything melts with some logical rotation. thn of course having higher tier gear helps alil. all exotic is more thn good enough. once u get a hang of it....u realise its soo easy and smooth..........have fun in this discovery stage
