    ah

i see your problem.  yor expecting nothing.  and nothing is something. so you get disappointed when that something which is nothing occurs.

it better to have no expectations rather than to expect nothing

    ?

also, something something and land wars in asia when death is on the line.  memory is foggy and im out of iocane powder.

I'm only worried how this will affect map design.

When I think of maps that make it feel like you need Skyscale to traverse it, I think of NKC and I hate NKC with a passion.

Previous maps were nicely balanced about springer and whatnot, just abandoning these notions of making maps springer and other-mount friendly seems like a huge red flag to me.

Unfortunately Anet crossed that Rubicon by adding mounts.

Anyone who played WoW back in the day knows what was lost when flying mounts entered that game.

EoD should have been the flying mount expansion.  Im glad Anet has finally figure it out.

In fact, I'd make a map or xpac with no "core" ground.  Just and endless loop of space bent in on itself due to xyz plot device with various cloud city oasis scatterd about.   But my ideas take time to ripple through the matrix. So i take what I can get.

3rd thing if you have both masteries: Air Rescue grants Bond of Vigor. Minor, but worthwhile.

There's 4 separate posts stating "if not this, then I'm not buying".

In any case, it should be the same skyscale. Not a discount version. And collection will likely be easy enough. Especially compared to now. As well, there may be rental stations on the maps like in Dragonfall. We'll see. But I expect it to be fairly easy and look forward to getting the skyscale comlpeted on multiple additional accounts.

    name the 4 things

    there's 2 requirements:

    1) its as easy to obtain as the raptor was for PoF

    2) its not a discounted version of the current skyscale

so name the 4 things or admit that you are wrong or willfully obtuse or intentionally trying to gaslight.  its ok.  ive been wrong thousands of times in my life.

OP, you seem to have a lot of requirements for this expansion that was announced an hour ago. Get it or don't, your choice.

I'm assuming the expansion is designed with the skyscale in mind and so the collection will be easy enough for everyone who wants it to finally get their skyscale. I don't expect it to be handed out like the raptor, and so you may be disappointed. I do expect the collection to be easy enough that every player can get it done.

    "a lot of requirements"

making the new skyscale obtainable in the intro and making it functionally on par with current skyscale is "a lot of requirements"

since when are 2 things "a lot"?

edit: like if 2 things are "a lot" your mind is gonna be blown with the number 3

It's the very same skyscale as you may have now.  They give you extra masteries (3 of them) if you got it beforehand.

Nobody's baiting and switching you.  They NEVER said they wouldn't give the skyscale to anyone else.  They also can't design content around the skyscale if only some of us, including elitist snobs, have it.

Buy the expansion, don't buy the expansion, it's entirely up to you.  Doesn't matter to anyone else.

    what im saying is this:

if those that have the skyscale now will have lets say a flying speed factor of 1.0 with the new content

and if those that Dont have the skyscale now will have lets say a flying speed factor of 0.8 with the new content unless they go back and grind the old skyscale content for the extra 0.2

well then thats a "nah dog, nope"

Raptor wasn't "streamlined", it was given away. We'll see how they handle this, but I imagine it'll be a relatively small collection so normal and casual players can have the skyscale for this expansion.

It wasn't given away, it was integrated into the beginning of the story.   So if this new collection they require us to go on takes more than 1 hour to get that mount or somehow isn't integrated with the story, its gonna be a "nah dog, not doin it" for me.

They mentioned there will be an alternate method of obtaining Skyscale, and a separate Skyscale mastery that will basically duplicate original Skyscale mastery. Now, those that will get both masteries will get some upgrades, but they will be relatively minor - and you will still have an access to Skyscale that would be better than what we have now.

I wonder what they mean by "Streamlined".  If it is as streamlined as the raptor was if PoF, I'll buy the content.  If its gonna take me an a boring achievement/collection hunt that requires hours and hours to obtain, forget it.

  8. I'm 50 years old.  I was just casually playing this game.  I was not expecting too much; just to have an ok/fun time doing simple things.  I love GW2 because I like to play computer DnD games(been playing DnD computer type games for like 35+ years).   I love the art in this game so much. Like I really love the GW2 setting.  I like the feeling of having a 3d avatar and doing swords and sorcery.  And I really love the action combat in GW2; except for the mob aoe spam which made me feel like I needed permanent dodges, swiftness and quickness.  But, I hit my limit with Sanctum Scramble and it has broken me.   LoL, I raged quit and uninstalled the game.  (Didnt delete toons like when I rage quite WoW.  I'm never ever playing that game again. That game is toxic. LoL)

I had everything I needed for Glints Bastion on my Revenant.   But I just needed Bronze on this stupid adventure and I just couldn't do it.  I spent a lot of time on this game (2.9k hours), playing it unoptimally because I rarely/never grouped up for the harder contents.  I never did a single raid, strike or fractal.  I did the dungeons when core Tyria was a thing; but I rarely did them cause I just could not stand the toxicity of instanced content (in this or any online game).  I can't get group kicked out of a map for gathering herbs so I just stayed in my lane.  I did the metas if they just so happened to coincide with what I was doing; but I didn't map hop and seek them out.  If the meta failed, its was not a big deal cause honestly the rewards weren't really what I was seeking.  The only time I actively grouped up to play was for unranked PvP; which I found extremely fun for a daily distraction from the solo grind.  Occasionally I'd 1v1 and come out on top; but mostly the fights were lost before they started, lol.  So I just settled for support builds on my warrior.  I didn't mind supporting other people, found it actually kinda fun. I know my limits and don't think of myself as Billy Bad - kitten; those days are gone if ever they were a thing.

I also didn't expect Legendaries.   Those were beyond my skill set.  I would just go about my singular tasks, doing things here and there, occasionally helping downed people or others who needed help with hero points.  So I settled for crafting ascended gear which took a lot of time when playing the game 99% solo.   I saved my gold (had 500ish) for mats for ascended crafting.  I spent my gold on those volatile magic shipments to get the lower tier materials and occasionally bought lower tier mats off the trading post.  But rarely did I spend more than a couple gold on the TP per day.

After I discovered that each profession had opportunities to get cool looking ascended skins I made that a goal for my toons.   I got all the warrior ones for each xpac; i loved the warrior and it was my main. I got the thief ones for HoT and PoF. And I was just casually going about on my Revenant  trying to get Glints Bastion when I ran into this adventure.   I was able to craft ascended shields (and heavy and medium armor) and with the exception for my warrior in pvp, I didn't really use shields on any of my toons.   I just wanted to casually get this skin cause the others were fairly easy to get and within my skill set.  But this adventure had switched something in my brain and I felt like I was no longer having fun playing GW2.  The skill ceiling on that adventure is too high for me and its made me question what the hell I was doing with my time.  Then I got to thinking how the heck I was going to get the other ones for the other professions cause they probably require other adventures; ones that I've failed and abandoned any hope to complete.  Almost all the adventures in HoT are far above my skill ceiling; yes even bronze adventures.   I don't think GW2 is for me anymore.

GW2 was fun and I had a fantastically good time with the xpacs and all the living seasons.  I think the devs got the open world difficulty just perfect in End of Dragons.  It reminded me of core Tyria back in the day; when blue, green and yellow gear actually mattered and leveling to 80 felt like an epic adventure.  But I think its time for me to move onto to other things. TTFN.

You basically wrote the same posts 3h and 4h ago. I'm pretty sure nobody expected that (as in your opinion) to change within that time. If you only care about good loot, go repeatedly farm another map?

i had a really high opinion of the map when it first came out.  but anet must have reached their goal for satiating gold farmers and the map got nuked.

they should have left the rewards alone.  upped the keys or decreased the chests.  make the breather masks work once per hour purchasable via lots of karma and only  karma.  a single meta run would yield half the karma needed to purchase a mask for the next run.  without the mask, no run.

this way, you get awesome rewards for doing the meta once per day.  if you want the awesome rewards again you have to farm karma (ie help other players).  its not hard to design incentives for grinders and people who only log in once per day.  just make the grinders farm karma to earn a token(breather mask or other map restraint).  everyone wins.

and there are smarter ways to remove crafting materials from the game besides making a person spend them as "currency" for an key that yields less currency than just selling the crafting materials on the Tp.

it seems like anet jumps through lots of hoops when they should just cut to the quick.

Maybe, just maybe, Anet's intentions were for people to actually engage with and play the content and not farm gold?  /shrug

The entire game revolves around farming gold.   So much so that they need bots to keep the trading post prices manageable.   Green UIDs have gone down in price so much that only 60ish silver separate selling a stack on the trading post vs vendoring.  But then again I get like 250 of em on 2 runs.  So thats like 2.5gold per hour.  Lame.

  11. The rewards for this meta are terrible.  I did 2 runs and got about 12 rare uids from it.  Fishing sucked to.  Got nothing from it but yellow and green fish.  Used the correct bait and zip, zilch, zero.

They let people farm gold for a couple weeks then killed it.  Strange game.

Totally support you in not needing the skyscale.

The roller beetle and gryphon are super easy to get, though. Gryphons downside is just that 250 gold. And both are joys to use. I’d go as far as to call the gryphon one of the highlights of GW2.

Ill collect the eggs because its nice challenging fun exploratory content for me.  But no.  Im not spending 250 gold on a mount.  Not gonna do it.  Nope.  Id rather just give Anet $20, go buy a skin for roleplay reasons and go about playing openworld stuff like a noob with 2.76k hours.  I hardly ever use the wiki unless its to find out how much of a grind something is.  Then I nope out.  If the wiki shows simple efforts, ill take the simple rewards.

1.7k hours here. Never got my skyscale. I don't think I ever will. I looked at what you have to do in order to get it, rolled my eyes and said "nope".

2.76K hours.  Two sets of ascended armor and 10 or so ascended weapons.

No legendaries.  Not even going to attempt.  I get purple items dropping all the time.  I just put them in the bank; why not.

Never done a strike or raids.  Don't want the drama.

Around 425g.  (just saving to craft my last set of ascended armor when I get the last 40pts finished in tailoring)

Nope not even buying that griffon for 250g.

Roller beetle.  Have no clue how to unlock it.

Skyscale.  Have no clue how to even go about getting that. Seems kinda pointless.

I enjoy unranked pvp and running my 10 characters through different open world stuff.  I like trying new builds with exotic gear.  Dont really even use my ascended armor much.

  14. You bought into the facade that is "progression".   In WoW and most mmorpgs what the game is really doing is dividing the player base into have and have nots.  Its designed to give you the feeling that you're missing out from the group;  a deep primal fear of the human psyche.

Scarcity of virtual items in all these games (GW2 included) is an curated illusion because with one line of code you could log in and have every virtual item given to you.  The scarce resource is your time.  And that is what every competes against.  Your time verses their time.

GW2 divides their player base just like WoW.  They gotta pay their bills and feed the beast system that governs meatspace.  Its just that in GW2  it really doesn't matter as much because their are only 3 tiers of gear: exotic, ascended and legendary.    GW2 is kinda sneaky though because they divided their player base by the type of content people like to do.  So players at most can only divide themselves into who has exotic or ascended.

Instanced group content is what you are looking for and the virtual rewards that come from it can be just a grueling a grind as WoW dungeons and raids.  Why?  Because they optimize the instances towards gear stats.  There's lots of gear stats. Which is why everyone in that scene covets legendaries.  The ultimate win condition. You can change stats on your gear and share gear between similar professions.  Meaning that you've won the gear-race and can enjoy any content for the pure enjoyment of the content.

WoW always has you chasing the next illusion.   In the end they're similar because both companies are competing for your time and in-game you are competing for every other players time.  Time is the currency in all these games.

What ping are you playing at? People with low latency have no idea what it's like at 200+ - there are plenty of instances where you appear to be inside the circle but the server registers you as outside, many instances on the shorter timers where you literally have to react instantly or not make it.

Have some empathy, not everything is "git gud" or "l2p" and arguably doing mechanics at higher ping actually takes more skill.

Not sure what my ping is at while playing.  I've done some tests like setting my gfx to all low as well as all high and I get lots of lag on either setting.  What does affect it is turning player names and npc names off.  But I only have to do this when groups events like this have what looks like hundreds of players. lol.

I played it early today with around 15ish ppl on my platform and that really helps.  Although I still need to burn 2 dodges to get into that circle.  If I dont have 2 dodges Im downed.   So yes, most often there is 0 time to react.  I feel like sometimes i have to play with permanent quickness and swiftness just to be able to react to all the aoe spam.  dodges are worthless most often.  That feeling is most noticeable during the story boss fights.  If i make one wrong step in those ballet dances the boss fight is done, over, its a fail my way through it and that makes me frustrated.  I just make one wrong move and pfftt, its gotten to the point where i dont want to do the story bosses anymore.  wish i could just press a button and skip those fights.

edit: i think maybe ill just stick to pvp unranked matches for my group content (i enjoy em) and just participate in the meta boss fights if by happenstance im in the areas.
