  1. #The positive I will say:

I am sure the story is good. I like their story telling and world building, typically.

Decoupling weapons from specs is good. Unfortunate that it is locked behind the expansion, but buy to play is a pretty reasonable model.

The idea for relics would have been good...

#The negative, for now, but it doesn't have to stay that way:

...if done with more respect for peoples characters, playstyles and builds and reimbursing them with an equivalent of their 6th bonus in the empty slot upon login. They could have simply detected 6 superior runes in a build and yeeted a relic into the empty slot upon release of the expansion. I disagree with how they did it, but decoupling the bonuses from the stats is in itself a good idea. Hopefully they will fix it so we don't have to remember "that time they tried to sell what we had back to us" going forward.

As a WvW player that looks into build theory and knows how many of the systems work under the hood in actuality, I unfortunately think the vast majority of their other changes were not so great. I would love to be more excited and enthusiastic, so hopefully they do more to encourage that enthusiasm and correct the relic/rune change to be more respectful of the way some people played their game.

  2. If you have a thief just pistol 5 and then dagger 2 a few times, for example. It is just "a circle that counts as a combo field" and any skill that counts as a finisher such as blast finisher, leap finisher, etc. It won't be too hard, you can do it.

... That is an astonishingly braindead goal for dailies though (no offense). Really does feel like the game is going mobile game route. Depressing. Have lots of respect for Anet for various reasons and I really hope this isn't a sign they are going to continue down this path. Rune stuff should have been complete before being pushed. People shouldn't have been punished with it - they should have been rewarded for their loyalty to the game. Or ideally just given new options and a system with more ease of use.

    I am just.. disappointed.

I'd love to wake up tomorrow to a blog post about how they plan to reimburse players for the 6th bonuses by adding the relics to all of us with the effects that got removed, stating that they have taken a snapshot and any account with 6 of a rune will be awarded 1 relic per 6 of that rune corresponding to the old system, and although they might take a while, they ARE planning to reimburse us. They could say it was an oversight and that they realize how crucial the 6th bonuses were for some playstyles and especially some wvw builds (many of the bonuses were used in roaming for example and without them some specs play dramatically differently and if you build up a character you love around that playstyle and then it just isn't possible, you shouldn't have to find a new main.).

I just don't think it will happen though.

  3. "Releasing something"  -> Disingenuous, they reduced options. Its planned obsolescence and they are gonna make you work to get what you already had. Its an obvious toxic thing that developers of garby lootbox mmo's use and shouldn't be happening here. We want content, not for them to sell what we had back to us or make us grind for it.

Most of the previous rune options are simply missing.

"they made the rune system so it has more options" - > Then they should have released the change when they had prepared those options instead of rushing it.

They rushed it. It is just that simple. There is no legitimate reason that these changes had to come out now and not after they actually were finished. They can release the finished stuff.

If I turn off the light, thus creating a problem (darkness) and then you turn the light back on again to solve that problem that isn't content. It is trivial time wasting.

  4. I'll first say that I do love Anet and often cite them as one of the reasons I have supported the franchise. I critique their decisions because I do care. I am a fan of the story, many gameplay elements and other things. No monthly fee, no level cap raise, no unearthly grind to get into exotics, etc. There have historically been many things I like.

    That said?

It truthfully is bizarre. They basically griefed their own game. Like... Why?

I've noticed a theme with many of the balance and build craft changes and it is that Arenanet seem to want to make Arenanets game for Arenanet and not a game for the players. Deleting builds entirely when they could have been salvaged, not offering an alternative playstyle, many things such as this. They take a build system - something designed to be able to have some complexity and gut it on the regular. Its ok to bevel the edges out - make it approachable, etc. I don't even think relics are a bad idea at the core, but the way they implemented it was rude, and for no reason. It would not have been significant effort to give you what you had, but also more in this case. People didn't have to log in today and feel like anet stole every 6th rune they had and then "all I got was this t shirt" with the miniscule 3 relics. People spent significant time, effort, and even money to set those builds up and often found builds that made them happy with various classes, they might have even 3d printed their characters.

As a company, and as an entertainer, you have a -responsibility- to your patrons to do everything in your power -not- to be too destructive to the foundations they have built upon unless no other option comes up.

I feel like they need to do some soul searching and get out of their CEO hugbox room because they are going to damage their community and iron out the wrinkles on the brain of their franchise. Some people like those wrinkles. They built character. They were endearing. Maybe some polish was necessary but you cannot do stuff like this rune change without taking every effort to appease peoples playstyles and make them feel like the time and effort they spent was not just wasted by some percent.

It isn't an exaggeration. You shouldn't include build craft, advertise giving lots of player freedom for playstyles (no trinity, etc) then get surprised when people who enjoy theory-crafting get fussy about frankly rushed changes stomping on their sand castles.

  5. The fact is they advertised the game as not having gear treadmills of this kind. I quote.. "If you log off and come back you won't be any less powerful than before." While they have not raised the level cap, the fact is the runes people put together, and all their builds no longer work at the level that they did. You pulled a warframe with their rework, a blah blah whatever game with their rework, etc. Why not learn from how they implemented things poorly in other studios and do better?

The bare minimum that needed to happen was if you had 6 runes of a type, convert it to a relic and give it to the player. They flat out nerfed people.

There is the inventory slot RIGHT THERE and it was blank since relics were in the land of martin mc-doesn't-exist. Fill it with a relic with the 6th bonus if you detect 6 runes of a superior quality on the gear in that build slot. Bam, presto, solved. Why wasn't this done?

While I don't think the splitting of stats and special effects is bad, this is a lazy way to do it and it didn't need to be.

They could have been like... "hey all your old stuff is here, but try this new system thats totally better than before."

Instead: "Get back to work, especially if you do competitive content, quick, fix all your builds that we wrecked like a cat knocking stuff off of a shelf so you can get back to where you were before the expansion launched."

They rushed the content. They gave in to the crunch. Now deal with people complaining about it. They should complain about it because it could have been given more time or effort.

  6. It makes no sense that its locked behind mastery. Just make a small portal for another arena that is similar in Lions Arch with no mastery. This is just out of place and it is simple as that. It isn't a slippery slope that is gonna add pvp to your pve normal maps, don't catastrophize. Anet knows that if they did that many people would quit.

Just let them have a less stupid way of accessing playing the game the way they want to.

  7. In regard to visual clutter, both as a result of no mechanical alternative and popular niche user preferences:

Jade mechs are visual clutter that are presently making the game look worse in crowded areas. Its design is not bad, but it is too common. The same thing many times becomes less good. It always looks the same and everyone is running this class and so basically you have peppered your world with visual noise that all looks the same. The city splash screens should have tons of pictures of the same jade mech copy pasted onto them to be more accurate. Not judging mechanists or anything, they don't like this either.

Sorry if that sounds intense - but its true.

Skins, size change, colour change would all help make it look less like a graphical representation of someones spam folder.

Its just something that has to happen to preserve some art direction and immersion. It looks bad right now because its an easy class to play so like everyone has these things surrounding them.

Much of the visual clutter that happened during the years has slowly gone away due to the amazing efforts of the art team at providing different looking options that appeal to a good percent of the players, thus ensuring some diversity in armor skins, weapon skins, even chairs and mounts. Unfortunately, the jade mech represents a huge step backward in regard to this. Nobody wants to look at the same thing copy pasted in every environment.

PS: Also, we will probably need even more skimpy armour thats basically bikinis now or this will create the same problem since some was recently added and blew up in popularity. Hey, its spring, so a nice beach area and some 'kinis would land nice with people. Most people using the same armour skins now, though. Not a complaint - I like the new skins, I look savage. (they avoided this kinda thing for a long while, most likely for this reason and also censor reasons).. Just want more so everyone doesn't look copy pasted.

(PS #2: Also, unrelated but I'd still like a bunny ranger pet, please.)

  8. Someone should look into the normals for juggernaut overlay as they are bugged with the incorrect texture.
Actually this issue goes deeper, it might be that multiple things with a dynamic texture are bugged as far as being able to properly swap to it or apply the correct offsets. I think its the right texture in some cases but its offset.

Someone should look into female chest clipping in GENERAL across multiple armour sets, someone messed with something they weren't supposed to on the dev team and that is preventing the chest from swapping to the variant models that are used for some sets.

Someone should look into the new tattoo skins becoming unable to be dyed.

Am I to understand you are training new armour designers? I am glad, they seem to be doing a good job so far. However, please make sure they don't accidentally modify random things. Someone has slippery fingers at the office. 😋

  9. Please put the permanent thousand seas pavilion pass up for sale again so my friends can join me there.

Also side note on beaches: Please add a nice beach to a shared non vip map in the future so we can have a nice beach that doesn't cost gems. Gw2 should have nicer beaches than Final fantasy but currently thats like the one thing they have better version of. I bet you could stunt on them and make theirs look bad if you try. Southsun is pretty old and not that great looking. Make a real tourist beach in an upcoming map, bet people would like it.

  10. Necromancing this post. It would be nice to have a rabbit or a rabbit + a bunny + a hare (to match the three natures).

Can even make a jackalope. Easter is soon.

It is extremely bizarre that we don't have a bunny as most other spirits are covered and even random stuff.

You know lots of people would love this. Don't make it op, but don't make it weak either. Just a solid option. It shouldn't take too much manpower to make this as the models and stuff are already made and they have combat animations.

  11. Easter is soon! Make a Big Chungus style fat bunny turtle skin. Everyone will buy it because it isn't a turtle and also it would be a fat bunny, SWELLING WITH FLUFF. Why would someone go around like mere mortals in a turtle when they could have huge floppy ears floppin around while they sit on top of an obscenely large bunny. It will no doubt strike utter fear into their enemies, as it would look terrifying on every level. It hungers.

Thats it, just a big honkin' bunny, large enough what blots out the sky. A fluffy platform of doom from which to do any ol' variation of the ultra violence from as you yeet eggs onto your unsuspecting victims in a festive manner!

So first up, its the size of a plow, which is awesome. And theres a part where you strap a live viper. To bite while you smite. On the back is this huge cannon, to blast your enemies with.

The dwarves would have made this, if they were still around.

    • What team were you placed on?   Reapers Corridor.
    • What team did you expect to be placed on?   Seven Pines with SPACE guild.
    • Did you change/toggle your selected WvW guild after Thursday night, even briefly?  It wasn't available to change. You gave us like no notice.
    • Have you shard/world transferred recently?    No.
    • What is your default world when World Restructuring is disabled?  Blackgate.

I'm extra annoyed since I had chance to play with friends since we got linked with Kaineng then 2 days later you yeet this terrible beta in that sends me back on my own yet again on the opposite side of my friends. Almost feels intentional at this point.

Can I swap with one of the seven pines guys above me for the beta? They are losing so it could count as balancing.

    • Haha 1
  12. Can you please have a talk with the balance team about the anvil buff working in WvW and convince them to disable it there?

It is going to break lots of the balance in multiple ways and is a mess.

People should have to invest in stats, everything has been balanced around that. Arbitrarily giving every build free stats is a really strikingly weird decision.

    • Confused 1
  13. 1/10 for buffing everyones health and defense with no investment regardless of build in wvw.

That change ALONE took all hope of it getting any more points from me.

If you say.. "oh I will get more health surely this is a good thing" keep in mind everyone gets that, and that health opens up some builds that simply should not exist and will be over the top and is further buffing already broken builds. Its a disaster and kind of embarrassing to watch.

I agree with SA needing rework, as a person who does play thief a bunch. That gave it one point. I don't believe the changes will work out how they hoped they would, but at least the fact they are going to work with that line is something.

Most of the other changes are just... out there. Not sure whats wrong with them.

  14. I'd be ok with just adding unlockable skins from playing on each map for free or gold or wvw currencies I guess.

I wouldn't really support changing the mount abilities or anything since that would by definition be changing balance for each borderland.

I definitely wouldn't agree with overwriting peoples current warclaw aesthetic decisions.

More unique/varied warclaw skins and maybe some unlockable ones through playing the content wouldn't be my first priority but sure, it would give the art team something to do with wvw while the map and balance team wander aimlessly in the woods/backrooms or whatever they are doing.

Edit: To be clear, I see what you are doing and its a cool thought to add variety/flavour to each map but since they already sold us warclaw skins it wouldn't be possible to just override the mounts per map and would make lots of people who bought those skins bigmad.

  15. I kinda predicted cele harbinger early on in the betas.

Just be glad they nerfed torment runes set bonus or it would have been even stronger at small scale/roaming.

They caught it in time though, but not before I took it for a test run in one of the betas. XD

It is fair for you to say that is mostly in small scale and roaming though, so I don't necessarily disagree there.

It might be hard to balance each way of playing the game but at least an attempt to somewhat balance some outliers should be made, imo. I do not think small scale and roaming is entirely irrelevant to balancing at all.

I do think it should be made a little less autopilot but it isn't the only build with that problem, it certainly makes a good example in the niche it is used though.

    Edit:

I just hope they don't go TOO far with any of the upcoming nerfs because classes should have options in various niches that are strong. Strong, not autopilot. Some stuff definitely needs tuned down though.

I also hope they don't ruin even more core classes viability to balance the new specs. They have history doing that...

I agree with the overall sentiment of the thread, they need to hire people who play all the stuff and have them participate in each niche of wvw so they get a better idea where each spec should go without making them useless or too dominant.

    • Confused 1
  16. You have to be kinda mobile and bait the opponents skills.

It requires knowing the other opponents builds and predicting or countering stuff more than most other classes.

If you just rush in and hit every button and expect to not melt in the circle it will be very hard.

Warrior does have range weapons but the builds required to use them are often a bit more situational and a similarly ranged build on another class will have more options in most situations.

For example, waiting out a guardians blocks or wasting them with lower damage skills before you burst is one important thing.

It doesn't have as much of a gimmick so you sorta need to play around your opponents unless they are just on a bad build or new to the game. Warrior requires patience to cloud/zerg in most of the time.

Also, run escapes! GS 5, bulls rush, gunblade 5 as examples. Only use these offensively if you don't have much pressure and are sure you won't have trouble in the thick of it. If you waste your mobility options you are likely to get pulled even further in, pew pew'ed from 1200 range or people will use some other gimmick on you and you won't be able to get to a range that is more advantageous.

Spellbreaker might be relatively good for learning, core too. If you are careful to not get rooted in place and be too inflexible, you can probably learn on bladesworn but remember that people are unlikely to stand still and let you charge your attacks and will dodge. Can be decent in small scale though.

I would recommend against most glassy berserker builds for learning as it will get pretty dodgy survivability wise.

  17. Keep in mind that depending on ArcDPS settings the data can be a bit confusing or misleading. Someone who does very consistent damage but doesn't really "burst" can in some situations be less desirable than someone who front loads their burst into a shorter time but does less overall damage through an encounter. That generates downs. Pressure can be good too, though.

Also keep in mind that certain classes are doing indirect damage through sustaining others or buffing them.

If you are learning, take as much survivability as you can stay comfortable with and practice positioning and timing your bursts (if your build is more bursty rather than sustained damage).

Just because a group is in front of a burn guard (for example) doesn't always mean they should burst right away because people might be doing their healing rotation or have buffs up during a push. Try to figure out the times where your burst will do the most damage. Due to the various ranges in this game positioning matters way more than you would think as far as how much damage you can do.

I might get very huge numbers on my build vs groups but even if I am doing the #1 spots damage, the ranking can be kinda deceptive because some of those other players might have buffed me or had their burst timed in such a manner that it might have generated more downs. It kinda feels like surfing in a way getting used to when you can burst and ride the wave out without dying. If you go with a very glass build, you will end up needing to factor in positioning even more. You can take stuff like reflects and heals that do a % of your damage to cover any stat disparity in some cases depending on the class and build. You said you are a guardian so timing your reflects and blocks so you can cleave into an opening is essential. Don't be afraid to back off and sit in the back line when you are on cooldowns too, so you can save the heals for when you need them. This is all assuming you are going for a pure dps role. Make sure to give stab etc to the people that need it up closer, etc.

  18. I'm not sure about all of you but I left my wife and kids (all 14 of them) for this week so that I could participate in the wonders that is no downstate.

Martha said.. "think of lil timmy" but I knew what I needed to do so I took a vacation to the nearest data center to the servers and packed up my computers so that I could be part of no downed state week. I brought all my best mates and am currently engraving my tombstone with the words "I wanted more no downed state." on it just in case I somehow pass before Arenanet comes to the conclusion that this is simply the greatest of all time. Just think, all the rally bots that used to have to remember to press the finisher button or cleave have one less key press they have to remember this week so they will be possibly twice as reliable.

The game should just be like this by default, really.

No downstate week every week! ❤️ Let loose the flood on the queues. 🙂
