Ah, a kindred spirit. Together in the "Sore Losers" club. Let's get t-shirts!

I mean, I'm not proud of it but that's actually the reason I don't do PvP. I'm not a child that's going to throw a tantrum after getting killed once. Or even twice. But after the tenth time when I'm sure that I don't stand a chance I'm kinda done with it, which is where I am with WvW right now.

What you said about mesmers is interesting though. I've seen some really interesting things done with mesmers, like a single invisible mesmer sneaking into a zerg, opening a portal, and then bringing in 20 fighters into a staging area and slaughtering it (I was on the recieving end of that....still impressed) but if invisibility is that good...I actually have a whole build based on invisibility that I kinda wanna try now. Veil, Mass Invisibility, maybe bring along portal just in case I get the opportunity to do the same thing. But maybe just the invisibility would be helpful, even if it doesn't last long.

The scrapper is interesting. I heard that the flamethrower scrapper was like the go-to for new players but I don't really use my engineer a lot. And what I do remember is that the mortar kit rooted you in place since, you know, it's a mortar. Seems strange in WvW to actually give up your mobility. But maybe I can give that a try too. But my engineer isn't nearly as well built as my mesmer is.

yeah thats the portal bombing strat! when i was in a guild on NSP, the commander there did portal bombs all the time. you can still do them, but its becoming less common now. it just depends on if the commander likes doing them. the support mesmers are the ones that do portal bombs for the squad, so you could have a support mesmer build and still do portal bomb strats if they ask for 'em. unfortunately, invis strats have been heavily nerfed in wvw a while back.

zerging is much easier to understand whats going on if you're in voice comms on a discord (and therefore its much easier to survive) - but if thats not something your into, focusing on finding a roaming build you like and doing PPT-ing with non-fight guilds where you dont need to be in comms or even in squad might be more your thing 🙂

  2. i wanna move to either SoS or whatever server is linked with JQ this matchup

a bunch of guilds got listed on JQ when i asked for guilds that run OCX times, but i hear SoS has good OCX coverage too
but since i can also play during NA prime time/reset time, just a quick question -

what guilds are out there that run big blobs during NA prime time (and whether or not they are pretty friendly as a bonus)

    THANKS

Hey there, i wanted craft legendary weapon, then i realise its almost impossible to get Gift of Battle. i Spend over 20 hours in several WvW maps and didnt got anything. (Couldnt finish a single event)

Option 1) There is no one on the map on your side, you just get killed

Option 2) There are only mount players on your side, so its impossible to follow, You always come to late to any event or any spot

Back at release everyone had a fair chance in WvW, you made Swiftness trains and rushed arround the map. Nowdays you cannot play WvW without the mount, and to get the Mount you need to play WvW. But you can't cause everyone just outruns you. Even with Quickness and Swiftness on you.

This is the most frustrating experience i ever had in gw2 so far.

you can literally just escort dolyaks the whole time to get your gift of battle if you can't figure anything else out. each escort gives you 5 minutes of contribution, and none of the dolyak escorts take a full 5 minutes.

I'm gonna come right out and say it: I hate WvW. I'm not a competetive player, I despise PvP because I'm not good at it and I don't really want to be good at it. I don't want to forever tweak and tune my build, chase the meta builds and practice rotations endlessly to score out that extra quarter of a second for that slightly faster stun orextra 50dps. But that's PvP, and that's fine. I'm a PvE player, much more casual, but WvW was supposed to be the best of both worlds. The inherent competetiveness of PvP combined with the roaming of PvE. Something truely unique among MMOs as far as I know. And I hate it.

But I don't want to hate it. When the WvW Rush popped up I said "I guess I can pop in and try it again". I've done it before. I got my warclaw (I don't have the masteries for it but I have my warclaw) and I got my Gifts of Battle for my leggies but after that I never went back. So it's the first time in a while. And I figured I'd start small. So I got into a less populated map, looked for a camp that I could take since camps are pretty easy to solo, and then along the way I ran into two other people who jumped me in the road, stun-locked me, downed me, finished me, and then presumably danced on the spot where I died (I was dead, so I didn't see it). And I was like "Yep, that's enough of that".

I know that there's things out there I don't like. I'm a mesmer. I like magic. So of course my least favorite class in the game is the Warrior. It's so slow, and it has to chase things down and gets beaten up because it's in melee range. But I've found that while I hate almost everything about warriors, I rather enjoy playing a Banner Rifleman. It's the only build I use and at least I can be happy with that. It took me a long time to learn and appreciate the Revenant as well, and I'm still trying to find something to love about the Guardian. The point is, if you can find something to love in one thing you can learn to at least appreciate the whole thing. And right now I'm struggling with WvW. I feel like I want to like it. I feel like I want an excuse to go in and do stuff. And every time I do it's absolutely discouraging, from getting merced just trying to get from point A to point B to feeling confused and useless in a zerg of 50 people because....well, there's 50 people, what are you actually contributing? I'm just looking for some advice here, an excuse to get back in there, and a reason to enjoy it instead of treating it like a necessary evil in the game.

So if you don't like PvP content and also don't want to a make an effort to enjoy it, you're unlikely to ever really like roaming in WvW. In roaming, especially, you're much more reliant on always running meta builds. The people you're fighting are going to be running them AND have a lot more experience than you, so you're going to need meta.

That being said, wvw meta doesn't change nearly as much as PvE meta, IMO. So you're less likely to constantly have to change things.

I too, hate PvP and don't want to get better at it. I also hate roaming. I'm a sore loser baby when I'm trying to fight people by myself, so like, I don't do it. But I LOOVVEEEEE zerging. I love the social aspect. I love contributing to the group.

You asked, "what exactly are you contributing?" in a squad of 50 people - I can give you some examples! A bunch of people running the wrong builds vs everyone running the right build makes-or-breaks a squad. No questions. (but as i said, meta changes much less often in wvw than pve).
Firebrands have, for years, been a must have in EVERY party in EVERY squad. You have 5 subgroups? You need 5 firebrands. They bring a ton of utility and very importantly, stability, which keeps you from being cc'd to death in fights.
Scrappers bring a tonnnn of dps and SUPERSPEED! you gotta zoom. very important. 10/10. your scrappers are probably going to be topping dps (along with warriors). if they're not near the top, something is funky.
support mesmers do this cool thing called veil where the whole squad runs through it, and the enemy squad LOSES their target on those ppl. this is super useful for really annoying players that like repeatedly target the commander, pull them, and kill them. commander dead = hard to effectively fight. also it makes them have to retarget anyone else they were trying to focus in the squad. support mesmers ALSO have illusion of life, where they can ranged rez multiple downed players and as long as those downed players get a tag on an enemy player that gets killed, they get to live!
tempests heal and cleanse the living kitten out of the squad and staff tempests bring a lot of utilitiy and more superspeed (not as much as engi tho)
berserkers have these banners that, when placed, kill enemy downs or rez downed allies (something like that idr)
reapers can run minion builds, which TANK for the squad because of this mechanic called damage capping, but i won't go into that. but basically, lots of reapers spawning minions = tankier squads
necros in general strip or convert a lot of the boons on the enemy squad, making them less strONK

IMO - if you dont enjoy small scale pvp, i would try to join your server's discord and ask if any wvw zerging guilds are recruiting. be upfront and say you're new, ask for a low-intensity build to run, maybe something that doesnt have more critical responsibilities (so avoid mesmer or berserker), and give it a go! voice comms make everything much more enjoyable.

personal recommendations for a new zerger (i dont play either of these so take w/ a grain of salt)

    scrapper:
pros: very easy. give super speed to party (especially when commander says so...or, while ur new, give it to yourself to catch up if you fall behind commander. i won't snitch). smack ppl with mortar kit from ranged. in melee, do literally like only 2 of ur hammer skills otherwise 111111 with flame gun or something. profit. (???)

cons: very easy, so guilds might already have too many of these bad boys and might not want another.

    d/d tempest (healer role)
camp water while ur a newbie. heal and cleanse ppl. stick ur kitten to the tag. survive. u'll be fine.

    I'm also a New Zealander

    yea, they're KR.

what kinda wvw do ya'll do mostly? do you try to run comped groups?
do you know when the re-links are going to happen? if they're pretty soon i'll wait for relinks to see who to join since JQ is full.

  7. hi guys!

i'm playing from NZ and i'd like to find an active wvw guild, but not sure which server to move to. what guilds are ya'll seeing in the middle of the night in NA? and on what server?

i think Sea of Sorrows were mentioned me [LATE] ? but i can't really remember. any suggestions for servers would be great!

apparently not, i moved my self into a group of 5+ still get blown up with multiple down states
the combat log says taken 14k+ from Shared Destruction

also, it seems like only you can see it, I couldn't see others' green circle; unless it's programmed only party / squad members can see each other's green circles(?)

a guildy seemed to have the same issue. you need to have other player effects on or SOMETHING LIKE THAT don't quote me, to be able to see others green circles

  9. UPDATE: a guildy of mine has been testing it. they took their static raid group with them to do testing LOL

EVERY green circle needs to have 3 people in it. if 1 green circle doesnt have enough, everyone gets hit. same as raid mechanics.

i wasnt there for this, but this is what they insist got them to survive the green circles.

which, if true, is even worse and needs to be changed IMO.

I think the confusion is that the mechanic isn’t to stack, but to run away and hide from line of sight. I get zero damage that way. Staying close or stacking just insta downed me

stacking is most certainly the mechanic. maybe line of sight blocks it, but the indicator is the stacking indicator that has existed since AT LEAST 2015 (vale guardian raid boss is a key example)

  11. UPDATE 2: this might have just been fixed? we'll see:

"Avatar of Regret's Crushing Regret attack now properly limits the number of players targeted when fewer players are within range."

UPDATE: a guildy of mine has been testing it. EVERY green circle needs to have 3 people in it. if 1 green circle doesnt have enough, everyone gets hit, same as some raid mechanics. this may or may not still be buggy, but they had consistent results surviving green circles with this method (they had a group of 10 players testing this i think? they said they were gonna bring their raid static but i wasnt around when they tested).
this should not be an open world mechanic if the mechanic is not going to scale to the amount of people at the event.

    hello!

a ton of champions are spawning green circles that players need to stack into.

the issue is that on non-meta events,  players often want to do these events with only 5 or so people.

we were doing the champ event at [Farisan Village] with 5 people and 3 green circles spawned on us over and over. We got to the point we all had perma red-down status, therefore every green circle was a DEATH.

mobs shouldn't be spawning green circles if theres not enough players in combat with the enemy, and the # of circles needs to scale as well. why are 3 green circles spawning with only 5 players?

  12. hi guys! i just moved to new zealand and i'm looking to find a guild that has activities at night PST (or at least active players late night) or an OCE-based guild.
i'm mostly interested in PvE content because i'll probably find a separate guild focused on large-scale wvw for reset night/the weekend

i'm super interested in fractals and chatty enough to organize them myself

i'm 32 so i'd really like a guild with a player-base of like 25 year olds and up yknow
i love to voice chat, so if your voice coms, so a guild that uses voice coms is a MUST. even if its just for events and stuff.

  13. hi guys! i haven't wvw'd in a really long time and when i did, there was never any real consistent commanding going on in my server or the server we were linked with (tiny server problems?).  i enjoy doing wvw with large groups, not roaming.

are there any servers that have consistent commanders/guilds, or is there too much server-transferring because of this crummy linking system to find a good server with reliable, consistent groups?

  14. Is anyone in one of the silvewastes guilds? [RIBA] or Sinful Wasters [sW] or something that can get me invited? I'm trying to finish up lumi armor but haven't been able to find them on maps yet. Or even if you know the name of someone I can whisper, that would be great help.

  15. SQUAD NAMES:People have been asking to be able to turn off squad nameplates for YEARS and we still don't have it nor, to my knowledge, any reason why you refuse to give it to us. I'm sure you all know how many complaints there are about visual clutter in this game and, in open world, people (including myself) REFUSE to join squads because its impossible to see anything. Targeting specific enemies is too hard/impossible with so many nameplates. The WVW dots as name-tags applied to open world would be a step in the right direction, but I don't see any reason why we can't turn them off altogether.

  16. ALSO fun and cool suggestion:If you are going to make changes (ie implementing a flawed system) regardless of what the community thinks, STOP ASKING US FOR OUR INPUT.All previous suggestions prior to the release were ignored despite claiming to be interested in our feedback. Asking for opinions when you are going to go full-steam-ahead doing WHATEVER the company wants literally just makes use lose faith in you over and over again. We'll burn out because we know you only ever pretend to listen to the community.

  17. I have nothing to say about your rendition of Guild Templates other than to just beg you to let Arc continue to update Build Templates for us or to let us turn off your build templates on an account-wide basis. That, or make it STOP saving builds and gear changes automatically.

ArcDps build templates cost you ZERO time and money to maintain and it added so so so so so so so so so much to this game for hardcore players like myself. Your release is terrible and is so useless that even if you fix all the bugs everyone has been describing here, it still isn't worth using unless we want to give in to your undisguised, predatory money grab template expansions. You want us to pay money for a system that is many times WORSE than what we already had outside the game.

I realise you're trying to pick a topical issue and bring it into the current discussion but you're making an error.

No. There is no such limit. You're assuming that ArenaNet will not add more skins to the pool. I can guarantee that they will making the odds of getting "the one you want" lower.

As for the "gambling destroys lives" debate I would rather people had the right to gamble than surrender that right to someone who knows best, I also think there is a general trend in the world where people will try and take things from you for the safety of others which is unhealthy (people exercising power and feeling virtuous about it should always be feared - zealotry didn't die with religion).

People absolutely have the right to gamble - but then GW2 should be rated M (or even AO) and clearly labelled as a gambling product, not just a video game. Like online poker.

You don't have a leg to stand on claiming this is gambling, it is just extremely expensive and badly designed (leaving an awful taste in the mouth). No casino on earth gives you a jackpot guaranteed after a maximum of 30 rolls. There very clearly is a limit, 30 rolls.

There is buckets wrong with this purchasing model, inventing wrong problems does not help.

    It’s gambling.

It is gambling in the same way buying something for £127.50 when it comes with stuff you don't want is gambling, ie. not at all gambling but stupidly expensive and badly designed. Gambling always requires a chance you will lose, you cannot lose if you buy 30 tickets or even the whole bundle "deal."

I really have no interest in defending this awful decision by Anet, but it is not gambling.

Gambling is the wagering of money or something of value (referred to as "the stakes") on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning money or material goods.

The outcome of what you are buying is uncertain until you have only 1 skin left.

The object is 30 mounts which Anet has valued at £127.50, they will deliver it to you one random piece at a time or you can buy it all at once for a discount. You are just excited about one piece but the product is the whole thing. You aren't winning anything you are just buying a group lot in a random order with the option to stop buying pieces once you get the bits you want.

As I said, I hate it but it is not gambling.

I edited my last post, but basically why don't you stop arguing S E M A N T I C S with people who are on the same side as you. All you are doing is arguing for the sake of arguing.

Your "this isn't gambling" doesn't help. If you don't agree with it, say you don't agree, and move on. Stop trying to dismantle the arguments of people who are on the same side as you (mount loot boxes = bad).

  20. I'm with all the other people who have added their voice to the gambling issue. Real money gambling / gacha mechanics in games are predatory and just generally awful and I'm not interested in paying for that sort of content. I'd be willing to buy a bunch of skins even at a higher price (although look, 2,000 gems is outrageous) if it meant that I could pick which skins I want.

Furthermore, lots of people don't have/don't WANT the griffon mount, so paying 400 gems and getting a skin for a mount you can't even use is also ridic.
