It could be driver configuration, hardware configuration, heat issues, power issues, even Windows issue like DPC latency handling.  The fact that you're downclocking as a work around could either indicate heat issues like you guess, PSU issues, or Windows/game settings overwhelming the card.  Or it's a cable/fan going bad, or the card needs reseating, etc.

I play both games on a 1080Ti myself.  If you're interested, I can share my configuration for you to compare.

I would immediately exclude driver configuration, since I've been also trying to downgrade/update drivers but the problem persist. I would also discard hardware configuration not really having changed anything in the last few years(?)
Heat & Power issues are troublesome to diagnostic... I can play more graphical intensive games (like The Witcher 3) for hours without problems and never had a crash, moreover I've been playing GW2 on this setup since the beginning of time and never hit this issue.

I will disassemble my pc soon, so that will take care of the
1. resetting of the GPU
2. dust
3. checks on cables and fans

After that, I will start thinking that some Windows update crippled some optimization in the GPU, making it to crash under, right now, indeterministic circumstances. And that is always fun...

I'm having the same problem with a GTX 1080Ti but GW2 is not the first or only game I had this problem with.
I am pretty sure that this is the same issue I'm having with Baldur's Gate 3 where I basically get a similar behaviour.

It seems to be related to DirectX, I couldn't find any real fix and I don't know what causes it. I guess it is related to temp/clocking of the video card because the ONLY fix that helped me (yes I did ALL THE THINGS mentioned in this thread since 2022 and many more) is to download "MSI Afterburner" and put -50 in the Core Clock and -10% in the Power Limit (effectively downclocking the GPU)

This allows me to play BG3 and GW2 for hours and without crashes, but a real fix or what is the actual problem? I don't know.
Hope this helps whoever still has this issue.

Forgot to ask. How would it be to have markmanship for predator's onslaught since traps will cripple enemies and that's a 15% more strike damage?

Thank you good people. Those builds are helpful and a hybrid/condi build sounds fun.

I also like traps and the shortbow so it looks like I might find something that I enjoy. Also having boosted to 80 I received a celestial eq that I think it was mentioned as being very good for at least one of those.

Browsing around I found everywhere the classic LB/GS sic'em build. Now on Metabattle there is one with S/A and no sic'em. I'm happy because I like variety but I'm new to ranger so I don't know how valid is that build.

 

Can someone confirm if it is actually any good?

Any suggestions otherwise on a good core build?

My phone broke and I had my accounts using the 2-step authentication with an authenticator.

I've tried to submit a ticket, but logging in the support website require an authenticator code, that I cannot reproduce anymore.

Is there someone I can chat with or an email I can use to solve this issue?

I don't know the tier you would like to play, but I've played lately in PvP for the first time and I'm enjoying Power Holo (took the exploding sword build in metabattle and adapted for my use) quite a bit. I usually swap skills and style of play during the 3 rounds so it's not easy to grasp how I play and it usually pay off. I'm at 60/40 win/lose in the bronze/silver tier. Again I'm a newbie but I'm having fun so YMMV :)

• Quickness uptime it's not mindless to get and it doesn't feel it lasts enough. I need combos and that leads to a rotation. I'm aware I'm not talking here about hardcore rotations, but still swinging the hammer like a warrior doesn't work :grimace:
• Might is not "that" easy to come by, I need to hit multiple targets. On single target, might generation is not great. I was fine when I was using Runes of Strength + Sigil of Strength (easy 25 might every fight), but switching to Chronomancer+Celerity I'm hardly seeing those results. I've seen 25 might when engaging with 3+ enemies and the fight lasted more that 8 secs. I'm sure that being new to this, I'm doing something very wrong, I'm still trying to find that out though
• I feel like I'm not critting much and I'm in full Zerk right now (slowly switching to the suggested marauder+diviner), that is even less if I switch from Reactive Lenses to Static Discharge, I lose that little fury uptime that helps a lot in my opinion but it's not on demand.

Quickness is great but it would be better if I had the possibility to hit harder while hitting faster. Survivability is good and barrier is nice, still need to avoid those hits from Legendary Crazed Enemies :P

Sadly real life took over so I have to come to terms with available time.Sometimes is few hours during a week, some other times is none for weeks. Obviously we miss you all!

Thanks for the tips, those are really helpful for getting a broad grasp on the style of playing. As you can see I've finally decided to enjoy a grown man class :PI've played a little yesterday and I found out that when I have the correct buffs up, everything melts, otherwise I find myself swinging the hammer and skills for few secs even for trash.That's fine though since in all my testing I didn't worry about my HPs at all... Gyros are fun and I've seen that they are now wells, so that's nice.

I've noticed only one thing that didn't quite looked right. Rocket Charge inside a water field seems to trigger only twice. I can see the animation for AoE Heals only during the first and the third blast.Hard to see if it is triggering on the second as well, I suspect that there is some internal cooldown? But I might be totally wrong on this.

Also I just need to get over some ugliness with the medium armor and hammers, but other than that I'm really enjoying it, so thanks!I know how much you've played this class, so I'm quite confident in following your advice (almost) blindly :P

Hello @HnRkLnXqZ.1870I was wondering how your builds changed since your last post (in October) now that we had another patch.Any major change? I'm going to equip an Engi and play Scrapper for a solo PVE journey (Story, Map completion, LS, Dungeons...) and while I would love to experiment with all the things, I don't have enough time (any fake money) to even play regularly.Having a solid base to start would be a huge help for me. :)
