I don't know what you think are, if you don't think they are acronyms. But CIA, FBI and IRS factually are acronyms.

FBI means Federal Bureau of Investigation.

    CIA means Central Intelligence Agency.

IRS stands for Internal Revenue Service.

IBM stands for International Business Machines.

    I told you so 🙂

And you would be wrong there, cowboy. Those are abbreviations (or initials), not acronyms. Acronyms are words that stand for things. Nobody would say "Fibi" for FBI, or "Sia" for CIA or "Ears" of IRS. Radar is a word. Laser is a word. Scuba is a word and they are all acronyms.

And most people don't know which words started out as acronyms before turning into actual words.

I didn't know that radar was also one of those.

    "RAdio Detection And Ranging"

Quite okay. A lot of people think things like CIA, FBI, IRS, and IBM are acronyms 🙂

  3. I have an idea regarding resurrecting another player.

I always like to thank people who resurrect me, but in the heat of battle, like a boss fight, it is difficult to type and the player wouldn't likely be reading it anyway.

My idea should be simple to add. I suggest a system like War Thunder uses. When your vehicle is damaged and another player helps you repair it, a hotkey appears on the screen, by default [T], and if you simply press that key, not only does it type "Thank you!" into chat, but also speaks it aloud in the game.

How cool would it be in GW2 to have your character thank another player in their voice by pressing only a single key?

  4. Yes, it was already released at the same time as Windows 9.

If they ever do, I hope they use Unreal Engine 5 and eliminate PvP entirely. Something is amiss there in this game. I stopped after having a top-level toon with fancy gear and went into PvP only to discover I was hitting with my best skill at 15 points damage while I was being hit for 3000,

  5. I think I have it nailed down now, thanks to all. I finished Glider Updraft, Bouncing Mushrooms, and even accidentally ended up by some Juvenile Fire Wyzens that I could train. It was a pet I wanted so I began to learn the masteries to get up there. I just ended up there by accident from gliding.

I wouldn't mind sharpening up some of the blurry textures, however. The basic Moa pet and some of the ambient animals, for instance, are unfocused and in some cases made noticeably out of triangles. There was also a hubbub recently about blurry infusion textures which could use a tune-up.

Do you have an Nvidia card? Have you used their built-in filters in the games? It makes a big difference. There is also ReShade, which is a bit trickier to setup, but works well.

Wait, NVidia has filters for GW2!? How have I missed this?

The filters work in all games. It was added a bit after AMD launched their new GPUs and was bragging about their new sharpening filter. Nvidia topped them right afterwards because you can set these while in game and they are separate for all games. AMD's has to be set outside the game and is either on or off for all games.

Have GeForce Experience installed, press ALT=F3 in the game. The filters can be added there and are adjustable for strength, etc.

Back in my days Fallout was a top down turn based rts/rpg with pixelated 2d sprites, and it is still better than the newer ones that came out from Fallout 3 and after

Such a youngster. I played RPG's before they had graphics in the form of Infocom's text adventures. That's right: Completely text-based games. You should try them. They are public domain now: https://if.illuminion.de/infocom.html

Even before this, I played the original "Trek" game which was an ASCII game: https://www.codeproject.com/Articles/28228/Star-Trek-1971-Text-Game

Oh yeah, and we used to have to walk to school in the snow barefoot, uphill in both directions.

@Einsof.1457 said:I can't believe these type s of posts. The graphics and art design in guild wars 2 is miles and miles beyond what any other game in the genre can produce. WoW and FFXIV textures are about 50x worse than guild wars 2. After playing other MMOs and moving to GW2 6 months ago, I am amazed almost every few minutes of how beautiful the game is. I don't think it's fair to complain about graphics in gw2.

I don't know what are you on that you really think WoW and FFXIV have worse graphics and art design. Really, GW2 having better graphics and art designs than WoW, FFXIV, ESO, Tera and especially BDO?

I just tried the trial of FFXIV and I can say the graphics are far worse than GW2. The characters have poor detail, their heads are too small for their bodies, etc. They have no detail in their faces, they look like clothing store manikins. Aside from worse graphics, the gameplay has no voice acting and the combat is terrible. WoW is an has always been awful in graphics. BDO has nice graphics but it's a very boring game. All you do is left/right click and wipe out everything in your path. I never even had to use a skill.

And no, it's not my system as I have an RTX 2070 Super and run everything maxed. I get over 100 fps in GW2.

  10. Yes, this helps, as all replies have.

I assume, that like unlocking gliding and mounts, all masteries are account unlocks?

I see some masteries that have completion percentages and others with a yellow bar but those have no percentages but say "in training". Are the latter ones the ones you are currently training and in the proper area?

And mastery points must also be obtained and these are gotten by just reaching certain points on the map?

    Thanks again.

  11. I'm not a complete noob, some parts are on backorder, but seriously, I have played off and on since launch (was in beta). However, I have typically just played casually because I enjoyed just exploring and killing stuff. I also like variety so I have 8 toons, four that are level 80, one 71, a 67, 64, and a 50-something.

Now I want to start doing some of the more advanced things. I just got my first mount the other day and wanted to master some things.

Can you have only one mastery gaining experience at a time?

Do masteries have to be done in specific order?

Do you need to be in specific areas to level them?

I have HoT and PoF. I can't seem to pick the masteries I want, like the bouncing mushrooms.

    Thanks.
