  1. I'm sorry if didn't make that part clear. The return for Mesmer would be the rollback of past nerfs as well as new buffs.

I feel like the above mentioned mechanics are a crutch that holds the Mesmer back. They prevent it from getting needed buffs and target it for complaints and nerfs. I agree that these mechanics are very strong at low level play. With these mechanics fixed, Mesmer hits a floor that can be built on to make it more competitive in high level pvp. This could allow for bringing back the bold Chrono. Mirage could definitely use more with Mirage Mirrors nerfed. Virtuoso should get distortion back. Core should gets buffs all around that help the elite specs as well.

  2. Mesmer is the main reason I've played this game. And is currently one of the main reason I quit long ago. I check back now and then to see if Mesmers are in a playable state only to see that it remains a dead class outside of open world pve, which all classes can do anyway.

Here are my thoughts on some simple fixes for Mesmer for PvP and WvW.

    • 1. Make Mesmer clones easily distinguishable from the Mesmer. And makes tab targeting for them work the same way Necro minions (prioritize the Mesmer).
      • Many people complain that Mesmers are unfun because the clones are frustrating. As a long term Mesmer player, I agree with this. They make Mesmers annoying to fight and turn people against the class.
      • Clones are a form of passive defense that gets less useful as other players get better. Good Mesmers don't really rely on hiding among clones to protect them. Only in the days of release did people try to pretend to be clones and that was mostly for memes.
      • Generally, all this feature has done is frustrate people fighting against Mesmers, lead to Mesmer nerfs, and offer literal benefit to Mesmers themselves. I believe they have only hurt this class in the long run and need to go. At least as perfect clones. As a resource for the Mesmer, they are fine.
      • Also, should probably make the clones distinguishable from phantasms for more counterplay.
    • 2. Remove stealth from all Mesmer abilities.
      • There's probably nothing more hated than stealth. Just look at what thieves have had to deal with. So I suggest freeing Mesmer from this entirely.
      • Instead, I believe that Mesmer should focus on mobility and target dropping (which is why I suggested changing tab targeting for clones). Dropping target is powerful, but not as powerful or annoying as stealth. Plus, it gives Mesmer a unique mechanic for surviving, without being overpowered.
      • Changes to stealth skills (not getting into details on most of the numbers here):
        • The Prestige: Blinds nearby foes. Drops target. Teleports Mesmer behind 120 behind targeted foe. Burns nearby foes (240). Removes 1 condition. Blast finish.
        • Decoy: Mesmer shadowsteps (450). Drops target. Creates clone at original location. Breaks stun.
        • Veil: Create a wall that drops target for you and your allies.
        • Signet of Midnight (Active): Blinds nearby foes. Drops target. Breaks stun. Unblockable.
        • Mass Invisibility: You and all your allies drop target. Creates a clone for every ally (including self) affected.
        • Prismatic Understanding: Gain a random boon when you drop target.
        • Escape Artist: Create a clone when you drop target.
        • Deception: No change. Downed states are their own thing. Not really dealing with them here.
    • 3. Remove Mirage Cloak from Mirage dodge.
      • I love Mirage Cloak, but it is way too powerful. It's a free distortion every time you dodge. If Mirage wants its second dodge back, Mirage Cloak has to go. I want the second dodge back, because one dodge feels terrible and hurts an already squishy class.
      • Ways Mirage can still gain Mirage Cloak:
        • From Mirage Mirrors.
        • Illusionary Ambush: Leave behind a Mirage Mirror instead of gaining Mirage Cloak
        • Axes of Symmetry: Add: Leave behind a Mirage Mirror (Mirages would need a more consistent way to generate mirrors and this skill has a decent cooldown for it. Jaunt is a possible alternative for this since it is so heavily nerfed in PvP).
      • This also has the effect of balancing Infinite Horizon. But some other traits will need to be adjusted. One suggestion:
        • Speed of Sand: Dodging increases your movement speed. (Makes it easier to get to Mirage Mirrors)
    • 4. Keep the effects of the Core shatter skills for each elite spec. Elite specs can add to them, but can't lose the Core effect.
      • Mesmer clones as a resource are so tied to this that removing them in away severely hurts the class. I'm talking to you, Chronomancer and Virtuoso.
      • What about trade-offs?
        • First, I hate the whole trade-off discussion when it comes to elite specs. I think this has done more harm to elite specs than improved core specs.
        • Second, why not give core specs something elite specs can't have? My suggestion is that core specs can use all the weapons of their elite specs, but elite specs still can't use weapons of other elite specs in the class.
          • So a Core Mesmer can use a axe/shield or dagger/shield, if it wants. I think this should be the case for all the classes. It breathes some life back into the Core classes, and gives some trade-off for the elites (as they focus into their specific weapons).

I feel with these changes, Anet can safely roll back some of the nerfs to class. In addition, it solves the clone problem by treating them solely as a resource going forward and not having to worry about how much they frustrate players. Same with stealth. Dropping target may not be as powerful, but it's more fun to play against and gives Mesmers a unique mechanic to play around with. So are my thoughts. Take them or leave them. Agree or disagree. I only hope that they can in some way help Mesmers get back to being a fun class to play again.

All morning I witnessed unbelievable levels of blatant HACKING and throw war queue sniping in my games. This stuff wasn't directed at me, it was some group of players going against some other group of players and I was being caught in the middle of it. And then I came across a thief who's name starts with an N, which I am sure most of you already know exactly who I'm talking about, and boy oh boy had I never seen hacking until I had seen this guy hacking. We aren't talking someone who is sneaky with using speedhack during a stealth. Oh no, THIS guy was like 1v1ing three different people on 3 different nodes with blatant shameless use of telehack.

After the barrage complete monkey @#$% that I had witnessed this morning, it was in that moment that I realized it was time to find a new game to play.

GGs to those who kept it clean over the years.

My discord is: TSBoyer#3149 for anyone who wishes to contact me.

Thanks for all the insight you've brought. I've also given up on PvP because of all the things you've mentioned in this thread. Franky, Anet needs to ditch ranked entirely, move the rewards to unranked, and crack down on hacking. I like the individual rating system, and they should look into that. But they need to fix this first. They'll get a lot more people playing PvP, if it becomes fun again.

  4. The mirage nerfs shows that it was keeping other classes in check, particularly revs, sbs, and slbs. It's not that mirage shouldn't have been nerfed. It's just that those classes needed to be nerfed too. Although, it is better having many OP builds than just one. But with the soulbeast unblockables, it might not actually be any different.

  5. The problem is that HP doesn't really matter that much for several classes. In fact, some of the biggest problem classes aren't really HP, it their other defenses, particularly active defenses. Mesmers, thieves, rangers, revs, and engies can put so much into damage because they have so many defensive tricks to keep them alive. Mesmers have so many active defensive tricks that really good ones can completely avoid damage while dishing out a lot in return. Lowering their HP isn't really going to affect them that much.

Meanwhile, eles and necros struggle because they don't have these kinds of defenses. Eles can go full defense, but good luck killing anything. Necros can churn out insane amounts of damage, but are so vulnerable, they aren't viable without support. So basically, all you are asking for is an Ele buff that would probably buff a lot of other classes (who shouldn't be buffed) as well.

  6. @EnderzShadow.2506 said:/cheersThis is pointless.Everyone thinks their class is fine when it's overpowered. And as soon as a class isn't meta they think it's underpowered.

TBF, a lot of Mesmer players came out and acknowledged that and where their class was OP. This was against a lot of Ranger players that just wanted Mesmer removed from the game. Ranger players here not only deny any OP Ranger skills, but actually ask for buffs to them. Ranger players have always done this. I've posted an example earlier in this thread where the Ranger forum went berserk when an OP skill was taken away. A skill so OP that Anet fixed it in a day. But many Ranger players claimed that it wasn't OP and that their class needed it. It's crazy the defense of OPness and hypocrisy in this thread by Ranger players.

  7. Boonbeast will probably give you the easiest time in PvP. While it doesn't have the huge burst of some other builds, it also doesn't have any real counters. So you can do a lot on your own, if you team is bonkers. You'll be able to do good damage, sustain, high mobility, and provide good team support.

  8. Before anyone starts taking ranger's seriously about sic em, please remember how they responded to this: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/We-Heal-as-One-Feedback-merged

WHAO was so powerful it was nerfed in a day. A fit was thrown saying that rangers were now unplayable without a clearly op skill. Sic Em is insanely powerful, bad for the game, and completely removing it would still have rangers be a top tier class.

I felt ignored by a number of players, though. ^^

I agree that this is problematic in hold-the-flag game modes, but even then enemies can group up to decap and easily defend against a barrier/protection based scrapper. Glassy one-shot builds should go fight someone they can one-shot. If the majority of the points is done via kills, then good scrappers will only contribute well, if enemy glass canons deny learning.

This is the very definition of OP. I'm assuming that was your intention.

    1. Chalice of Tears (Ember Bay): Difficult because the creator wanted to make a difficult JP. It is one of the most unfun places in the entire game. Most JPs have a beautiful view or interesting mechanic. This thing is basically cheap traps, unneccessary accuracy with jumping and counter intuitive path finding.
    2. Griffon Rook Run: With the bomb, no portals and no people fighting the NPCs for you. Compared to the Chalice, it is challenging but the view is awesome and there is more than one way to complete it.
    3. Scavengers Chasm: Even with a guide this thing takes ages to complete.

I have spent entire days in Not So Secret. Mostly helping other people, friends, guildmates with achievements and legendary collections. I did not master this place, but I feel no longer stress or frustration doing it. It takes as long as it takes, no matter how many times I have to try from scratch - I do not care anymore. That is why I do not list it in my top 3. OS is on my top 3 favorites.

I love Scavangers Chasm. It's so big and empty. I used to run it regularly just to wind down.

Not So Secret is the hardest for me. I don't think I've ever completed it by myself. So many traps, combat, and wonky mechanics. Several of the falls are a death sentence, so even having a backup portal won't save you.

  11. @ChartFish.1308 said:Ranger downstate is, yes, aside from the autoattack arguably the strongest downstate IG. However a pet cannot rapidly heal it's owner and interrupt an enemy stomp, it's one or the other. Just saying.

The pet interrupts before the heal because the heal isn't immediately available. This allows the pet to interrupt the stomp then get the heal in.

Pet Interrupt -> Pet Heal -> Ranger Interrupt -> Ranger Self Heal -> Ranger Rez

So the ranger gets two interrupts to delay the stomp, which can often be enough for the pet to finish the rez.

Not a lot of people seem to think that it's a bad idea to fight vs a bunker in the first place.

Edit: How would you reply to someone saying "Such a hostile, petty, passive aggressive little response when all I did was point out it performs well in general. Its amusing how personally attacked you feel."?I dislike scrapper as well but I just dont care about this elite spec...somehow...You might hate me as well but you seems to be hostile/passive aggresive out of the blue.I dont know actually. its probably because of the mesmer hate and how you treat them?

It's not out of the blue. Had several answers from him in several ropics and he's not very kind to say the least.I do dislike mesmers, yes. And I often argue with people who think that mesmer is not OP.Mesmer entirely ? Specific things? You probably would argue with me as well if you would tell me they didnt overnerf axe and nerf core every patch as well, but oh well ,this thread about scraps and even Sind replied ,you can watch his post as well

I think they overnerfed the damage which is not even the worst part of mesmer. So I do agree with you on the axe nerf.I'm slightly curious what is the worst part of mesmer ?

You can't win now can you? I will give you my reasons, then we will talk about my rating, if you enven find my reasons to be good enough. But then there will still be a way to discredit my thoughts about mesmers even though this is a scrapper topic. But now you will say "no, ofc not lol" so yeah.

The whole reason I don't like people saying scrapper is op is because I personally can beat scrapper. And trust me, if I can - anyone can.

We really are all out to get you

You want him to find the evidence that you can't to support your claim?

Personally, I'd just ignore it. It's true, so maybe think about it?

  14. Basically, his feelings were hurt so now he hates anyone who he thinks is a mesmer main. Also, anyone he hates he accuses as a mesmer main. What's worse that being called a mesmer main, right?

@sephiroth.4217 said:Have been playing the build quite a bit since this post..I initially thought it was OP but now Im not so sure, it seems to only fit into the OP category if the other team doesn't have pulls/knockbacks AND decide to 3v1 over thier home node..

The comp is extremely broken with a FB, but again this is only if the enemy team wants to butt heads over the point they guard, little bit of rotation outplays here again.

While the build itself could use some shaves or tweaks such as adding cast times to Bulwark (where it shines most after being CC'd), I honestly dont think its as OP as I once did as it seems to only stomp baddies and while that may sound like a good reason to nerf it, its not and thats because it encourages good play. It's going to help those less experienced into rotating properly.

Very much this.I have said this in another thread already, but I will go ahead an repeat myself here.

Scrapper kinda reminds me of HoT druid. Its just another bunker, that cant really kill people.Sure it has teamfight utility, but when talking about its sidenode-role, the best thing it can do, is stalemate any other 1v1 spec. This is good for holding capped nodes, but terrible for contesting enemy ones.

People have become so alienated by the super high dmg meta we had for ~18 months now, that they just dont know how to play against an actual bunker. If you think about it, newer people (= people that didnt play pre PoF) have NEVER actually had to bother with this kind of gameplay. They are so used to just zerging people down, that they overcommit so hard to try to kill a scrapper, that they dont pay any attention to the rest of the map.

It's very much a rotation / map-awareness issue. If you see a scrapper camping a node, dont bother. Win the rest of the map 5v4.

If a scrapper is contesting one of YOUR nodes, just leave one of your 1v1ers to deal with it.The scrapper wont kill it and you still have the score-ticks while figthing 4v4 on the rest of the map.

It literally the same as druid back in HoT.

Edit: Im not denying that scrapper isn't strong rn. And I actually think, that it could deal with some nerfs in certain departments (looking at you 8k barrier bulwark gyro without any investment into healing power). It's just not as OP as people make it out to be.

They nerfed druid because this doesn't work. If you are against more than one scrapper, you can't out rotate them. The fact that the team with a scrapper has an advantage that needs to be played around is a problem.

  16. As has been said, if varies by what you are playing. You beat them like you beat any other class. You play to your strengths and to their weaknesses. If you don't know what those are, then you need more practice. Some match ups will be bad. And some of you are clinging to god awful builds.

Generally, a good strategy is to destroy their clones. You will need to pay attention to where the real mesmer is, but this isn't hard. Unless they are bad, you won't kill them quickly.
