Part of me is just a little pre-disposed towards not liking Sylvari characters as easily as others because they're....They're not implemented poorly, but it just feels like there's some clunk and a bit of that 'just so special' thing to them, especially early on.

Honestly, the problems with Trahearne are... kinda rooted in the nature of the Sylvari. They've seemingly got (originally) this grand sense of importance and grandness of scale insisted upon. Not that its a bad thing to expand the racial scope beyond just humans like Guild Wars 1 did but something about the worldbuilding for Sylvari has always struck me as... just slightly sue-ish.

Just what the title asks. Not sure if the devs have ever made a comment on it or not or if its just another plot-point that was quietly forgotten about. Just re-ran Catacombs and I've been reminded of this very good question.

Honestly, I realize she had a hard lot in life and everything, she's really been through the wringer
but one of the most annoying things in the story has been me being told that I trust Caithe now. They pushed this sense of importance onto her with Aurene but I... just still do not trust her.

He was 'stripped of his power' and yet still seemed to have it. Call it a facsimilie of it or whatever, I still think its a little significant that 'a mortal with a flaming sword killed him' (or possibly not with said flaming sword!) means more than you're letting on.
Also, Abaddon was killed by mortals
As for dragons, 'fundamental part of nature's workings' is literally from the wiki and is spelled out in the story. Were you paying attention? Exploiting a weakness or not, they bleed; we kill them
I'm just saying 'we're only mortal' is a pretty awful argument for why we can't do something in a fantasy setting like this one.
