  1. Hopefully you get the jist from the title.
I'm a bit confused. As of last update today, I can see 4 places to choose guild or team for beta.

WvW panel has original "World Restructuring - Beta" guild choice, and additional "Join Team" below it.
WvW panel has second "WvW Team Selection" tab listing worlds with a "Join Team" button.

Guild panel has the "Set as WvW Guild" option on it as well.

Do all these have to be set? Which is priority? How kitten heck do I explain what to do to my guild??

Thanks for any clarification. I admit I've been fairly afk since last beta, but can't find any clarity on this in forums or update notes.

When GW2 patches, it changes its filename from .exe to .tmp, then launches .tmp and changes back to .exe. If it fails that last swap, you end up with a 0 byte .exe and the .tmp as the real .exe, so the next time you launch it, Windows says it's not valid / can't run. Simply look in the folder where GW2 is located for a ~37 MB file and rename it to .exe. Alternatively, here's Gw2-64.exe (build 125937) straight from the patch server (link only valid until the next patch) that you can simply use to replace your existing one.

Thanks Healix, that worked on the second computer.. and I thought I'd tried everything under the sun except a full reinstall!
I'd love to understand this more. Any idea why it might fail on the last swap on some computers and not others?

The "problem computer" is a an ASUS Rog Strix running Win10 (not Win11, even though Microsoft is trying to force that choice with every update). I noticed a fail in the Armory Crate logs on connection. I uninstalled the Armory Crate, thinking that it wasn't playing nicely with GW2, but that did not fix the issue. It's still uninstalled now, but after changing the .tmp file name indicated above, it ran the game.

  3. Hiya,

We have two different computers running two unique fully paid versions of game (different people!). As of today, game fails to launch for both. We successfully played first part of story yesterday and started exploring Cantha.

Today, we have tried various "fixes", such as testing AV on/off, updating graphics drivers, launching as admin/not admin, removing add-ons (arc-dps used by one version).  Have tried command line ext  -dx11, with and without.

Both games use windowed fullscreen normally once ingame.

Is this "fail to launch" a known issue at present?  Anyone else experiencing this?  Any fixes?

    Thanks.

  4. Siege Turtle in WvW  .... hmmm....🤔

Big, sloooow-moving, must be operated by 2 people, big supply cost (must be zerg-built), guild-scribed blueprint only, attackable (but high health pool), big dmg on doors/walls.

I just had visions of it drawing zerg to kill it, needing zerg to defend it, ending in big open world fight, or lose SM/keep!  *chuckle chuckle*. I mean, if you can get the thing to the structure, it should be worth defending it all the way there.

  5. I only ever crafted 3 sets of the WvW Legendary armor, however it took a considerable amount of time, effort and gold investment to get them. As a WvW focused player, that was ok with me! I did not wish to spend my time in PVE (away from WvW) working on alternative Legendary Armor.

It does seem unfair for people who crafted both not to get the "compensatory" perks that the PVE people did.

It was also a great disappointment to me personally, that the WvW armor did not have a dedicated Legendary skin, or any achievements for creating it, unlike the PVE versions.

    OP has legitimate complaint imho.

  6. Well, I'm a Guild Leader who put a lot of prep into my guild for this. Am I/we unhappy? NO NO NO NO.

OK, so it didn't go as planned, but what does in life? The way me (and my guildies) see it in reflection is:

    A)  It got ANet closer to figuring all this out. Every failure is a necessary step in what essentially is a major rework of the system.
    B)  We realised we were actually super excited (more than we wanted to admit) for change to happen.

    C)  We would have been happy to put up with Beta testing failures for a week, if it meant the new system happened faster!

In any case, we all got to have a laugh together, play on different EoTM maps until the never-ending queue never popped, then we went and got us some lootbags after they reset it.

I wish the ANet staff all the best in figuring it all out, and rest assured, your player base is broadly behind this, so get to it! :)

Any chance you can provide a quick guide for the people who are having a similar problem but who never messed around with the ports themselves?

What port did you have it forced to use? Could you give us some steps on how to do that?

I was using port 443. However, I also use Trend, but that was not my fix for this error.

I originally used the instructions from here: https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/115015788327-Configuring-your-Router-and-Firewall-Ports

Good to see it working for people now! 🙂

How exactly does that assist with trolling? trolls don't care if their name gets out, in fact they might be delighted to light up everyones screen on the map with their name three times in a row by smacking all the tactivators at the same time in an objective.

You can't report them, nothing will happen to them, so how does this address trolling?

My suggestion was not to splash it across the screen, but to have a simple "Game Message" in chat. I agree that splashing it across the map would just give the trolls more attention.

Putting trolling aside for a moment, when I'm roaming/scouting, I'd love to see quickly if a tactic has been pulled, say, for dollies going invul at a camp etc, as it would likely save me a lot of running around and wasting time. Or, if leading, that a WP has been pulled, or Invul used, simply to save having to click on the structure on map, clicking again to change the tab..... just a QoL thing for those paying attention to such things to get the info faster 🙂

I could definitely see trolls moving to tactics like "player x trolled the ewp" when that player had not, just to troll said player.

A simple game generated message in map/team chat would probably resolve most of this: "Player XYZ used XXXXXXX Tactic in *Structure Name Here*"

This could actually be helpful as it would let people know when supply was topped up, that dollies are invulnerable from XXX camp  etc.

  10. Isn't this issue at least partly the responsibility of the Guild Leader to manage? I'm still trying to get my head around how this might work.

Some functionality within existing guilds to split roster between those who have nominated the guild as "WvW Guild" (and only those count towards the "Alliance" in matchmaking - there will still be a cap to the Alliance itself, yes??),  and people who are members, but chose a different WvW guild (or who are casual/social members) would be ideal? The other option is to have a second non-WvW guild for your casual/social members, except, who wants to level a whole new guild and double administrate?
