thanks for all the replies and science so far! just here to report that the bug is still around after the PvP hotfix. our reset triple trouble was briefly scaled correctly, and after about 10% of normal damage, became descaled and dropped rapidly. all three wurms were buttered for decap, and 2/3 heads remained such.

i'm hearing that similar oddities are happening to other events, such as Chak Gerent's defiance being squishier.

The health scaling for Gerent might also be an issue, but the HP scaling hasn't been as harsh since it got adjusted in 2016, so it hasn't been as noticeable. It still seems to die a little faster than normal, only it's much more subtle than TT and Octovine.

  2. There's not much to like when an otherwise perfectly good Public run gets ruined by Sorrow charging into the water.

That's 30 full minutes that 50 people are never going to get back thanks to this bug that should have been at least acknowledged by now. If nothing else, Sorrow spawning should be disabled until they bother to fix it, but they haven't even done that as a bare minimum.

  3. When the game is resting on its laurels and not really prioritizing new story content anymore, then they can think about adding more festivals to the calendar. For now, the current lineup of 6 is pretty fine where it is.

Updates wouldn't be amiss though. Joko getting added to the Labyrinth would be an example of a nice touch. Would be nice to see the Bloody Prince Thorn stuff return somehow, though. Not really sure what they could add to Wintersday. But for Lunar New Year, they could have some decorations and maybe an event or two added at the Monastery in Seitung Province. SAB could finally have World 3 added, and then World 4. Dragon Bash + Four Winds are probably set, other than they could add new boss selections to the Queen's Gauntlet. Oh, and hologram projections for SW and Aurene.

  4. Most raiders and strike runners don't bring heal scourge to anything that isn't Boneskinner, and that's only because that fight is so broken with the incoming damage that doing the mechanic correctly and keeping torches lit is actually by far riskier, if not impossible for most groups to do successfully. And ArenaNet have shown no inclination to fix old encounters that are that horribly broken. If heal scourge gets nerfed, the Boneskinner probably never gets cleared again by most players that are even currently bothering to touch it now.

Aside from that, in any other scenario most people who take raiding seriously don't bother bringing it to any other encounter, and there are those who would view it as an insult if it was brought to any regular run. It doesn't bring any desired boons, as might is pretty much a universal constant otherwise. It serves no other purpose than barrier and revive bot, and the low DPS value it provides means you actually see more mechanics that can lead to wipes.

As for DPS mechanist, it's seeing a dps nerf of several thousand, so it won't be the be-all, end-all it is right now. It'll still be a solid option for new raiders, and players who want low-intensity builds that accommodate common disabilities (joint pain, slower reaction times, etc.) that they may or may not have. Anywhere from 33-35k DPS is a good place for it. Condi mech was already nerfed, far harder than it needed to be, imo. The bigger outlier to look at would be condi virtuoso, especially the Chaos variant.

Before the banner change, warrior was always a solid pick and it wasn't that uncommon to see it top DPS charts as a support, so I'm really not sure where the anger comes from. The June balance patch made it less worthwhile to take, but that got remedied in short order with some decent adjustments.

  5. One thing they could do is decouple the Choice Chests for Desolation and Domain Of Vabbi so that people would have incentive to do more than one meta rather than just doing the easy one. Serpent's Ire isn't even hard anymore, especially since you can place a Waystation at each of the 5 champions and have even just a small group blowing up their defiance bars.

But then they'd maybe have to acknowledge the issues with Maws Of Torment being undoable without Skyscale cheese.

Dang, over two weeks and still not fixed, and just barely acknowledged. Guess I should revise my last post where I assumed that surely they'd fix it quickly since it affects the gem store... <joking> Maybe they could more quickly add a hotkey to toggle DPI scaling on/off when you need to preview something. </joking>

If it's a problem that has a workaround, then it's not high on the priority list to acknowledge or even push out a hotfix. If it gets fixed at all, it'll be during a regularly scheduled tri-weekly update (since they don't do it on a bi-weekly basis anymore like they used to). Since you can temporarily uncheck the box for DPI Scaling and turn it back on when you're done previewing what you want to look at, I'm sure they view that as sufficient for the time being.

Anyway, I myself am also having this problem but on my (small-screened) laptop only. Desktop PC previewing works fine without any janky workarounds required. So the fact that this doesn't even affect everyone but maybe a small portion of players who cared enough to check the forums about the issue might also be a part of why addressing it isn't a priority as well.

  7. They might add some new QoL to the Jade Bot and its Modules when the new living story comes out. Possibly even to commemorate one year of End Of Dragons being released. Using the bench seems intentional, so I don't know that they'd change that, but I'm thinking they might add some benches, batteries, and offensive/defensive protocols to older maps (especially those with popular world bosses and metas) and they could redo the module slots so that at least the Mount Energy chip that they give you by default during the story doesn't have to compete with chips that replace junk items. Maybe an extra slot or two with new masteries or something?

I would say a big problem I notice during the Meta is Whirlpools.

    A. They take way too long to kill you keeping you out of the fight for a long while

    B. Unlike Bubbles there is no chance of being freed as the Break Bar is to high for anyone to actually free you.

I still haven't learned how to dodge the Whirlpools, but I'm trying to learn.

Any mechanic that incentivizes letting it kill you because breaking you out takes too much effort is a bad mechanic and should honestly be removed from the game. Bubbles are at least fair, like you said. But whirlpool is an automatic death sentence, and it takes way too much time to have to fly back in. Especially if you don't have a griffon.

As for the breakbar mechanic like OP mentioned, the run I was just on had a single breakbar... at 82% so it was worthless and couldn't have even been broken before phase. She didn't do the preceding acid breath a single time after that until the last 15 seconds of the timer.

Personally, encounters that require RNG mechanics to artificially make them challenging simply shouldn't exist. It seems like by design, these encounters succeed or fail independently of how well you play.

  9. Honestly, I'd really rather them just say directly what we already know deep down - that raids are done and no longer being developed. Feels like they're on the same status as dungeons, and it won't be long for strikes to go the same way.

Would just feel better to be put out of our misery rather than waiting for another year or two with even the smallest twinge of hope. Bobby more or less said it here without really stating it outright, though, I guess. Just for that little bit of wriggle-room to not speak in absolutes.
