Every class believes their class is hated by ANet. You can go to any sub forum and find that.

It kinda reminds of sports leagues like the NFL, where if you were to believe major fan boards, there is an active conspiracy to screw at least 32 teams in the league.

Don't think it was entirely a meme, but also just a character fantasy people enjoyed.

Beastmasters are my favourite archetype of the ranger theme in general. I never played ranger in GW1 without a pet, since this mechanic was the primary appeal of the class for me (and I really loved my reef lurker). Being the one to keep the enemy on the ground and commanding my pet to maul them was fun thematically.

So just want to say: I don't think people are drawn to it just for the meme or viability. Theme fantasy plays a role, too. It's the same for mechanist, which is beloved by people simply because they dig the theme of having a giant robot buddy (and I hate them for it).

The "bunny hop" animation part of it was the meme.

And this is where I must be misremembering, because the Bunny Thumpers I saw dropped the pet entirely and focused almost entirely on knockdowns and CC.  There was no real "beast master" aspect that I remember seeing.  Maybe I just played some really bad Thumpers in Alliance Battles.

I dunno where you are coming from with this post, but BT in GW1 was all about the hammer CC and pet. Pets actually do good damage in GW1 because they have a +25% base speed buff which did not count towards the speed cap. And there were/are dozens of viable Ranger builds.

It was not viable because it got rid of the pet, it used it. And to use it was a build choice that required you giving up two of your 8 skills, since you need to take Comfort Animal and Charm Animal for PvP.

Admittedly, I'm dialing it back almost a decade, but the overwhelming majority of Bunny Thumpers I saw dropped the pet and added additional hammer knockdown skills.  Maybe I am misremembering, I suppose... but I don't think so.

The team just created another PvE minded Ranger spec completely at this point, and that stinks.

I would actually disagree.  Untamed is... in truth... a pretty awful PvE spec.  There is nothing it does that gives it a niche.  In terms of DPS, Soulbeast utterly lays waste to it, and it's not even all that particularly close.  In terms of CC and Break bar damage, it doesn't even hold a candle to Druid.

It's a jack of no trades, master of none.

Except being a iconic ranger build in gw1. Lol

Hammer is fine. The elite just needs work

Thing is... it really wasn't about the hammer.  The weapon could have been anything.  The reason "Bunny Thumper" was so popular wasn't really because of the hopping animation or the weapon or whatever.  It was popular because it was one of a tragically few number of viable ranger builds, especially in Tombs, Arenas, or Alliance Battles.

Players are going to reject Untamed, no matter how much ArenaNet tries to lean into the meme, if the spec is not particularly viable, and by all (admittedly limited) testing so far, it falls disastrously short in pretty much all aspects of GW2.

this expac is for all the brain deaad pvers i guess

It's actually a pretty garbage spec for PvE at that.  Hammer damage is pathetic as a general rule, and Untamed doesn't change that.  And anything Untamed gives damage wise outside of hammer is pretty significantly overshadowed by the already existing Soulbeast spec.

  7. It's like ArenaNet didn't realize why Ranger players were so enthused by the "Bunny Thumper" in GW1 to begin with.

It really didn't have anything to do with the hammer.  The "hop" Rangers did was a nice little bit of meme bait, but that was about it.  It could have been ANY weapon.  The reason "Bunny Thumper" got so much play was because it was one of the few viable builds Rangers had for most competitive content.

And it was viable in GW1 for the same reason Soulbeast is one of the few viable Ranger specs in GW2... because it takes the pet out of the equation.  The Pet is such a massive drag on the class's viability that the only way we're even remotely useful is when we can just get rid of it entirely.

Whatever you're trying to do with pet mechanics for this class, it's not working; and it hasn't worked over 16 years and 2 separate games.

Here's the thing, if Bunny Thumper was used for actual design of Untamed, it would be TOTALLY different. They are not even similar apart from the fact that there is a Ranger, a Hammer and a Pet.

That's kinda what it boils down to.

Untamed feels like ArenaNet saying, "Here's the meme build you liked in GW1!  Hopefully you'll be so excited to see it that you won't notice we STILL don't have ANY idea how to make ranger pets viable after 16 years!"

I'm confused with how the "stealth" works as enemies seem to "see" me even when I'm standing still frequently.

Thank you dev team! I've been on the other side of bad releases and I know it must have been very stressful.

Yeah... no. I am so turned off by "stealth missions" that I would sooner sit out the entire episode than replay this instance. I absolutely loathe them, especially in MMOs.

  10. My glitch is one I haven't seen here so far.

I got into the instance fine. Got all the way up to the very end. The "portal site" was secured, but the army didn't complete readiness and Awakened starting spawning at the portal site infinitely as far as I can tell.

Then I wound up getting DCed, and when I signed back in, I was in Kourna... but I can no longer advance the story (because it's telling me to go to a story point I can't access). As I hate stealth missions, I will sooner sit out this entire episode than restart the whole damn thing.
