if it made farming easier, you’d change your mind in a heart beat. intimidate mobs into dropping more rare mts

Not sure how intimidation (or any character trait) should logically impact the quality of the drop?  But sure, I agree in theory... if there were consequences to these selected traits beyond cosmetic/roleplaying, then that effort would have to be evaluated versus the reward... however I'm not convinced that any result from Anet would be a game-changer in that regard.

  2. All of the mentioned possibilities are plausible, but while it may seem like case of the wrong sender, given you weren't expecting it, it also seems like an unbelievable coincidence, doesn't it?

If that were the case, it means someone either mistyped an intended name that happened to be yours (and auto-fill only happens with people on your contact list), or they mis-clicked on your name from a contact list, or while picking you out of a crowd...  I mean, possible, sure, but would be a crazy coincidence wouldn't it? .. and given the stakes involved?  I would be more inclined to think it was a legit giveaway from a guild/streamer... I know of one guild that gives those away frequently, or maybe simply you caught the eye of someone, through your looks or actions... While it is a generous offering, in-game wealth is relative... That said, one would think that there would some kind of message attached... But I would also assume some kind of friendly acknowledgment with your return of the item, if it were in error...

Very strange, but as has been mentioned, a follow-up to the player would be the only way to know for certain... and in absence of clarity, kudos to you for having the integrity to return with knowing for sure!

  3. Hey all, just wanted to get some feedback from all of those casual players who are still working on their SOTO Obsidian Armor set...

As someone who doesn't particularly enjoy PVP or WvW, I decided to take the plunge even if it was going to less efficient than other modes... I'm now halfway through the first set... what's everyone's impression to date?

While the sheer number of Essences to grind seemed intimidating, so far just running public Convergences (participating, and picking up 4-6 Essence nuggets) daily along with the weekly rift running has kept me ahead of the game to date...  And while ectos remain expensive and a potential bottleneck, if you're not inclined to purchase outright, you pick up enough of them running through the SOTO metas on a daily basis, as you also acquire the map currencies and arcane chest coins.  While ectos can be slow to accumulate, you can also take a break and grind for them in whatever game-mode appeals to you most...

But OMG my current pain and bottleneck are the Provisioner Tokens... 300 doesn't seem like a lot, and while I had enough reserves to burn through the first piece or two... what a pain it is to be crafting/purchasing/saving and then jumping all over the map on a daily basis to purchase/exchange a couple at a time... I didn't have the foresight to realize this in advance to start accumulating, and what an absolute slog now... Easily the most aggravating aspect of the collection, as ridiculous as it seems, for me to date...

  4. I found I had more success with that collection in Open Water, and not the fishing nodes... Whether that was simply RNG or somehow the drop tables differ when there are less types of fish available, I don't know...

You pulled 18 from that collection over an hour... that seems pretty good?  I also note that the squid is only 'Rare'; is it possible that your FP is too high for an optimal chance at that rarity?  Given the general widespread distribution and that there were 5 missing from that tiny sample size, would seem to indicate to me, that it's just RNG and that you'll get there through luck eventually...

Everyone has 'one' that they struggle to get... Hang in there!

  5. Given the complexity of what was included, and the summary from the link provided above:  "Since then, this mechanic has little to no presence in the game and doesn't produce any noticeable gameplay effect", it seems to be a lot of effort invested with very little return.

While it's not something that I particularly care about, I can see the appeal for those who are into the roleplay aspect of the game.

Maybe something a simply as a series of consumables; tonics or whatever, could provide temporary personality effects/animations to satisfy those who are interested?

  6. So... given where you're posting this, I'm guessing that your prescribed help for that final elusive fish is to... pass wind in a timely fashion?  Umm... Thanks?!

  7. Wow, I didn't think I was an arachnophobe until I suddenly envisioned people on giant spiders crawling over everything... Replace the dozens of Skyscales we see flocking all over the place, with those creepy things?!  Kinda makes my skin crawl... LOL.

I admit that I would also love a no-nonsense climbing machine, but thinking that it would break so many areas where they've painstakingly come up with mechanics (or simply added 'no-go zones') to provide limitations on the Springer, Skyscale and Griffon...

In line with the Spiderman theme, it would be cool to incorporate a built-in Oakheart Reach as a dismount feature, wouldn't it?  Crawling along on your spider and then... WHAP!  You leap from it's back and shoot upwards, Spiderman style!

  8. That one is a bit trickier I believe, as there are a few checkpoints that you have to hit... Assistance through a series of portals is available, but I find there is often help that isn't advertised through LFG... Visit Ember Bay during peak times and watch/ask through map chat... Give it 20 minutes or so, and spend some time working other events, etc., as unlike some of the current weeklies, you're not going to find 6 tags camping the summit...

  9. I've used while at 80, as I had a few of them accumulated and no low-level character spots that I cared to re-roll/boost... I don't see the 'waste', so long as you're sure you won't regret it later.

As I recall the weapon/armor gear itself is bound and cannot be sold or salvaged, so if that is your motivation, you may want to rethink...

Here is a link to all the stuff you get:

Best solution is remove that from the legendaries entirely.  Stupid pointless thing.

Map completion (or the near-equivalent) has always been a part of the Legendary journey... I don't have an issue with it.  However unlike weapons, different mechanics where you don't have to repeat all the same tasks six times for the completion of one set of armor would have been reasonable... Similarly to not having to repeat the collection process for crafting a second identical Gen2 weapon... I understand the difference is that each of the six pieces is unique, rather than duplicated, but still... it is a lot of repetition that could have been handled differently...

  11. Bandithaunt Caverns in Queensdale was my go-to for this... The upside with starter zones is that it's basically one-shot and the respawn is quick.  The downside is that it still took me a few visits as there seemed to be more players in the Caverns than actual bandits, with everyone chasing the same objective!  So maybe a less-obvious place next time might be more efficient in the long run...

It'd be nice to get a title for getting all the home instance cats because a couple of them are awful to get 😂😭🙃

I was thinking the cat collecting for home instances.  They would need to make an achievement for tracking those.

Wow, I had no idea... Given the list and complexity, I would agree!

That never consistently failed either, only most of the time, unless of course you with "consistently" means "a figure subjectively to me"  since it by the objective definition of "consistent" (https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/consistent) was severely inconsistent.

Well, of course I only have my experience... as I expect you only have yours?  Unless that data is published somewhere that I am unaware... I personally have experienced 32/33 successful Public convergences, completed within the aforementioned time-frame.  That was my point of reference for consistency, which I also qualified with "end result"... There are no doubt many who have significantly more experience; would be interesting to understand if I have just been fortunate, or what their experience has been...

Just because something works there's no reason that wanting it to work better is bad.

Fair enough... I was just asking for the reasoning and point behind it... which presumably is because... you have seen more people die during the instance.

  14. Similar to a another response I made... to what end?  Is Hellsister consistently failing as a result?  While I've had Hellsister only maybe 6 times now (all Public, and as recently as this morning) they have all been successful... And completed in the same general time frame as all of the other public convergence bosses, 25-28 minutes.  While I agree that some are a little more tedious/challenging than others, ultimately the end result has been consistent; the convergence is completed successfully within that general time frame...

Is the feeling that these are too long and should be completable at the 15 minute mark?

  15. I'm happy to understand that there are changes coming, and hopeful that they achieve far more diversity... with the overwhelming content available, it's crazy that repetition is so frequent... For example, I have had the 'kill 100 Awakened' several times, when there are 40+ Slayer achievements from Tyria alone!   Pick something!  Who wouldn't enjoy whacking around a few grawl or dredge for old times' sakes?!  In fact, just add everything!  Why does the list need to be so restricted?  Added diversity would make it feel fresh.  Crossing my fingers.

  16. I think your plan is sound.  Although you are currently unfamiliar with the nuances and mechanics of your builds, those 80-level toons will be strong enough in low-level maps to avoid any learning-curve frustrations as you figure it out, as opposed to re-immersing yourself into level-80 content... and it will come back quickly... Welcome back!

Oh! that is helpful! thanks!. though don't those give a 33% of an extra strike? so you wont get up to 6 attempts at a fishing hole?

I'm not sure of the exact maximum tries; maybe there a couple of boosters than be used together.  Not sure, only that you can increase beyond the three...

On paper it sounds okay, like you pull a shark and you have to fight it off. however in practise, you risk the fishing stacks with this. and while Zephyrite Fish jerky can salvage such a situation, it is really annoying. i doubt the extra loot anet is willing to give will balance it out.

Unfortunately this is the trick with everything Anet adds to the game... the seemingly inevitable resulting imbalance and the subsequent patches to re-balance (balance?  lol)

Anyway, while we can be skeptical, I don't think it's a reason not to try... else the game stagnates and nothing moves forward... Trust in the process, to eventually work out any kinks...
