Free Camera does nothing (on Mac client)

I turned on Free Camera and it's had no effect. When I press a movement key my character turns to face toward the direction my camera is facing, and the camera also swings wildly to face his facing as he does it, instead of my character simply going the direction he's facing without the camera moving (which is what I expect and want). Since several combat abilities cause my character to change facing relative to the camera, when I press any movement things get vertiginous quite often.

On top of that, there is a key binding to do free camera, which does work, but you have to hold it down! I want the behavior of that by default, or with a toggle, without having to cramp my finger down on yet another key as I'm trying to move and do skill key presses.
