I am experiencing the fullscreen checkerboard glitch as well. I found that if it does checkerboard, you can open "Accessibility" settings and go to "Display" then under "Cursor" settings, toggle "Shake mouse pointer to locate" option. Most of the time when I switch back to the game, it is displaying correctly.
