i'd say that cyberpunk settings, despite being a modern cliche, are still far less common than classical high fantasy. we're talking like maybe 1% in comparison, and are only really well known in the last decade from blade runner memes.

    1) I was talking about creative design/style, not genre. The comparison was to that. It has a generic last years scify cyberpunk anime style/design about it. Hot and Pof had a lot of unique creative design behind it (in creatures and maps), while technically classic fantasy. Eod did not have that. You tied the dissapointment of the Cryptic hunting from players to a genre, that did not make sence, so hence my post.

    2) While not directly related to my point. Cyberpunk was already popular in earlier times (80's, 90's) in animation (for example Akira), games and movies (the Original Bladerunner). And invented long before that. So actually quite classic in itself. Long before the youtube meme or Tik tok generations walked on this world.

this is exactly what players asked for: no jade tech and a return to classical high fantasy. that also means its going to seem more generic, as literally the entire point of the expansion is to be generic and appealing to the masses who love this kind of thing.

EOD with its generic anime cyberpunk style was actualy, oh right, 'Generic'. Catering to the 2020's anime masses. Hot and Pof on the other hand had great unique creative design in maps creatures and gameplay. And are, oh yes in the line of classic fantasy.

So, what are you talking about? Anything actually to contibute?

Man if only annecdotal evidence was all that was necessary for a problem to exist. I've talked to many people who have problems with something that simply didn't know how to handle stuff, they learned and the problem was solved. There are tons of things that seem like problems that really aren't. And there are tons of things that are problems for some people and not others.

You need to see a significant percentage of the player base experiencing it, enough to spend resources on it. This thread doesn't show that, or rather, it's not evidence of that one way or another. It might or might not be true. But what you've seen in this thread is the experience of a handful of people who choose to share it.

I once had a critique group comment on a short story I was writing. Three people said it was too short and needed a longer treatment to be effective. Three people said it was too long and needed to be paired down a couple of pages because the idea doesn't support a longer story.

I see people saying it's a problem and I know people who think it's not a problem , even new people just starting the game, and I interact with plenty of those. At the end of the day, nothing has been proven here. There are just opinions on both sides.

You can easily confirm its a problem within half an hour. Certain high level players deliberately Elite spec area of effecting/ mount slamming everything in one blow in front of low level newbies. Always the same names, always max level mastery points, same flash fluff glitter legendary skins etc. Mostly in Queendale, the spot they always hang out. Ignoring it does not mean it doesnt happen . I see it many times, for years. Not an assumption, a confirmable fact by practice.

They have just as much right to be there as you do.  Unlike other MMOs, in GW2 there are reasons for max level players to be in lower level zones.  I think it would be better if ANet rebalanced the downscaling to make it more appropriate to what max level stats actually are, but don't blame the players for that.

By deliberately making the life of new players miserable? The OP has a point about egocentric high level players area of effect/one shothing everything. You dont need to smash every enemy for dailies. Thats why i always shut of autotarget when new players are doing dynamic events in low level areas and use skill one. The type of players he is talking about are not normal civilised players. Its always the same Full elite, flash fluff glitter, full legendary, hyperactive on their mounts (mount smashing/elite spec killing everything in one blow) type of player. They are not entitled to anything, what they could learn is a little respect to the newbies, and grow up.

  5. Not really a permanent solution, but still interesting to tell. In my case, when the downloading scaled back to 0, switching the language (login screen left top) to another gave me some GB's of download. And repeat with another language when it gets to 0 again. The downloading of maps ingame when logged in seemed to be working normal. Still needs a permanent fix ofcourse. It seems more and more people experience this. Im  from the Netherlands (EU), i dont know if this no tech knowlege needed workaround applies to the NA servers.

  6. Faceroll everything is the way to go? 🤣 I played my first games in the 80's when there was no revive or help from others. Dead meant dead and starting over again. No saved progression (mostly). You ran out of lives? Bad luck, start over. In gw 1 you had dead penalty the more you died and spawning at shrines and walking back. Its actually much easier now compared to the games of the past. And with the more difficult HP's (and bosses) its easy to find friendly players to assist you quickly.

  7. Woohoo, happy birthday Arenanet 🥞🥳

Im getting ancient, combined with gw1 its been 15 and a half years. Earlier 2006 was my first guildwars experience, probably by reading about it in a 'printed on paper' game magazine (PC gameplay, a Dutch/Belgian magazine from that time). 🧓

I still remember my first gw session. First i was in a beautiful green and lively area, and went on doing a certain primary quest i ended up in a Postapocalyptic setting. I was figuring out how to get back to the green map, until realising it was no more :classic_sad: and was actually the same map, two years later.

Planning to dive into guildwars 2 again today with a fresh new character 😎Maybe this game dinosaur still has some tips and tricks to share with new players.

I am sure they did know players would talk to each other. A/B tests don't have to be blind to measure intersting things.

But thats the problem. When new player A gets the mount and talks to his new player friend who didnt, it can negatively influence the decision of player B and result to him/her to stop playing. Thats the problem. Then you dont have a correct result. The new players are not aware they are part of a test.

  9. I am not a fan of the coloring and lightning to be honest, and the overrealiance on postprocessing for the effects. It looks less detailed and polished to me. Also a lot of using old assets, compared to Hot and Pof, who have much more layered, detailed and unique assets. Would be fine for a Living World release, but i would expect more uniqueness with a full expac.

On the story side, without giving spoilers. Im quite far with the story at the Kaineng part. The story begins good, but somewhere it is beginning to be reliant on doing endless repetitive tasks instead of having a story presented and interesting encounters. What i have played now doesnt hold up to the story campaign in Pof in my opinion.

  10. Played for 8 hours yesterday. Very quiet in the maps. Now 24 hours later, still very quit. Even if many people are busy with the story you would still have to see them at the multiple open world steps in the story. Next to that there are also a good group of people who are more into open world. With the Hot release for example a good group was focusing on story, but also a good group doing open world. The chat is also totally quit, yesterday, now again, 24 hours later, at peak european time. So no, the everyone is doing story excuse is nonsense, comparing it to the two earlier expacs also. I had many groups doing metas with those two releases, right from the start. The only meta i could do with two people participating was the one with the fishtank, with a Turtle called Bubbles at the end , finishing the events gave me a Bubbles the Megaladon title 😛

That meta reminded me of the old b movie Piranha, was quite funny the killerfish Frenzy.

  11. I have not experienced toxicity in guildwars 2 for quite some time personally. Maybe because of what sort of content im playing, who knows. But toxicity and online gaming is there since the beginning. Especially in pvp. Long time ago (2003,2004) i played quake 3 online, and all sorts of raging weirdos who could not stand loss where there. In gw 1 pvp in the golden days the same. Could not be bothered to play pvp in guildwars 2. The pvp modes over there dont interest me compared to earlier mentioned, and at a certain age it did not interest me anymore.

  12. I would love to interact with the grawls, give them some story. They always seem to be disrespected by the intelligent races, especially the charr in the past, who decimated and enslaved them for years, and drove them away from their homelands. They havent evolved or very little over the last 250 years and many before that. They could use some education (if capable of it) or end up with the same fate as the gw 1 Gargoyles. On the other hand, they may turn against us in the process :p

  13. In my opinion they should not be scared of a yelling salty minority on the internet echochambers (few 100 people, you can almost count them, its always the same names), nothing different since even gw1 times. Its been mostly quiet for a period of half a year now, some comunication and teasing hype wont hurt. Especially in these times, that builds confidence and a new community foundation (new players, existing and returning(like me)) which has been eroding for some years now.

As the poster above states, “they” has had multiple meanings or uses for a very long time. It’s not a post millennium thing

Yes, the thing is the use of They for the last five/ten years is different. Its part of alternative pronounse where some people (humans) identify themself with. I dont think a dragon does that, right, being a Primordal force of nature and all? I leave it with that, its not really a big thing.

  16. I myself started calling them Frost Legion very early. It just seemed fitting, instead of the boring generic name ice brood. It gives it more power. Don't know if they came up with the name by own inspiration or adapting to a populair name the Charr loving community gave it. Now wondering if we will get a Flame and Frost episode the next batch ;-p

There is no need for an outrage.

So you get 3 times as many in the same time now. I dont believe that. That you can get them at more places ok, but that doesnt equal you get 3 times in the same time as before. You still have to spend 3 times as much time for the same. At first glance it looks like a tripled timesink.

Sorry, i missed the information that the drop rates where increased, ignore my post ;) Somehow i cant delete my post.
