I'm not talking high quality skins or anything.

Just something simple and unique to them.

Right now the rewards for completing them are pretty miserable, which is a shame because they're a fun activity for the most part.

But then they would have to spend time in developing cosmetics that wouldn't be going straight on the cash shop which they will never do. It's Anet they'll take the cash shop money over anything else.

And people yell at me for suggesting the posters use the forums search function.

It doesn't really matter if people want to discuss topics that have already been discussed. Peoples minds change and new players come onto the forums. Also they may have missed the discussion and don't want to comment on a dead thread that no one will respond too. Just don't respond or read another thread if you've seen it before it's not like there's a huge amount of activity in the guild wars 2 discussion thread anywayyyyyyyy. More the merrier.

So. Since you’re mentioning completists. What about ingame skins? Collections, legendaries, drops. Do they come with the subscription as well? Cause you know completists will not feel it’s complete without them.

Only difference is with the sub all gem store skins will be available through in game drops. All the other stuff ingame skins, collections and legendaries are still in the game you still have to do the content to get them same as you do now. It's literally just making the cash shop skins available in game that's it.

You can unlock them faster right now by swiping a credit card and they would have unlimited use.  No subscription required.

I can't imagine how much you would have to spend to unlock all the skins on the cash shops obviously it's in the thousands of dollars. The sub is a better value for money option if you want to be a completist and unlock all the skins. Also some people like to play the game and not just buy all the content with a credit card.

I wouldn't mind, but not like this, the point of having a optional sub-fee would be to have less stuff in the gem store, not more, locking earnable skins to the sub-fee would have the same effect, so they would need to put something else to atract people to that.

But i believe at this point this is not possible, you either start with a forced sub and convert to optional later (i think ESO did this), or already start with a forced or optinal sub, putting a sub in a game that never had one, even if optional, will turn a lot of people of, maybe in GW3 xD.

No items would be locked behind the sub. Everything would still available on the store as is now apart from with the sub it drops in the game. I guess another advantage of this that might persuade people to sub is that the skin could be achieved any time aslong as you do the content rather than waiting for the next cycle for it to be available on the store again.

Subscription isnt really about the price.

Its about the fear of missing out on the value by not logging on all the time and the fear of being cut off from that value if you want to stop.

Subscription is preying on your basic human emotions.

    I reject that.

Doesn't the store already prey on fomo though by having sales and items only available on the store for a certain amount of time. It's done to create artificial scarcity so people feel the need to buy it before it disappears. Preying on basic human emotions is already a part of the game.

...with people who aren't making use of that option, for whatever reason, being barred out of specific content/rewards? Hmm, that doesn't sound good, either.

Nah no content is barred from anyone. Just for the sub fee people the skins drop in the game but for free people they are still on the store as they are now. They can get them the same way they do now(gems or cash).

It just means as a sub player you can unlock more of the skins faster but you are tied into a sub to use them.

Did we really need yet another thread on this topic that so many simply do not want?  Please use the forums search function.

OP, if you want a sub fee, then you can already do this all on your own!  Just pay ANet $15-35 every month (your choice even!) and you'll get gems that you can use to purchase whatever you want from the gem store.  There is no need to force a subscription model on everyone else.

It's not forcing it on anyone. Game is exactly the same apart from there's an option to sub for people who want it. Those who don't. Dont sub.

This sounds to me like a scheme to circumvent gemstore prices.  How many skins could you get in 1 month?  What would the sub fee cost?  Could someone do 1 month and get 100s of gemstore skins for like 20 bucks?  Why would anyone pay the sub fee for years and years?  Wouldn't most people just subscribe for a month or a few months, grind through whatever content for the skins they want and then cancel the sub?  How does that even remotely work for ANET?

GW2 is a non-sub game.  No matter how you try to spin it any kind of subscription doesn't make sense for this game.

You could unlock a lot of skins in 1 month but an easy fix is make it so if you unsub the skins you got aren't useable so its a balance between having access to a lot of skins that are unlockable quickly but paying to stay subbed or doing it the way it is now which is a slower grind of converting gold to gems or real world money(fast way) but you get to use the skins without being subbed.

Okay, and for example if I did all dungeons paths, can I choose what skin I get or am I forced to play specific content to get specific skins? With the current system I can play what I want to get what I want from the gem store.

So I was thinking it would be specific content for specific skins so you would have to go do that content to get the skin.

Just buy gems every month and use them to buy items.

There is no place for a sub in this game, optional or otherwise.

That's a really hollow unfulfilling way to play the game though. It wouldn't affect you and you can play exactly as you are now so why would it matter to you if someone subs and unlocks content that way.

So they pay with their sub for the additional work and get the skin for free? That doesn’t sound like a good deal for Anet.

It's a good deal for the player which is us. after the initial work of implementing the skins as rewards in the game is done then there really isn't much work to do. They can then have a predictable income flow of opt sub players and still have the one off purchases and purchases of people who prefer not to sub and buy things from the gem store like they do now.

It takes worker hours to decide where those items go and to code it.

In your scenario, would the subscribers have to just discover where the month’s items are? Or would there be some sort of communication, also requiring worker hours?

    Nothing happens by itself.

I guess that's what the sub fee would pay for. Not the month items I mean make them permanent items for rewards for specific content in the game so 1 specific skin is achieved by doing path 3 of Ascalonian Catacombs etc. The devs can tell the players where each skin reward has been placed and then all the guides and gw2 websites will add it and people will know where to find forever.

Basically I'm saying add all the cash shop skins as drops in the game for opt sub fee payers so they can unlock it by playing the game and not buying on the store.

Why only PvE stuff? WvW and PvP players don’t get them? Again, this would only divide the community.
I am against it and luckily an optional subscription won’t happen.

Could be WvW and PvP too. With the optional sub fee they can incorporate skins as rewards into all areas of the game world. There's over 300 mount skins alone on the store there's more than enough skins to put them throughout all areas of the game pvp wvw included.

You’re asking that ArenaNet invest time to create those quests/achievements every month. That means your sub would have to cost significantly more than the cost of all the cosmetic items in the shop.

Would anyone be willing to pay that high of a sub?

They don't have to invest anytime really just all the skins on the shop now they would just have to make them drop from existing things within the game. E.g jump puzzles that already exist, quests that already exist, dungeon bosses that already exist. When they develop say a new expansion...all the items they were going to put in the shop, for the sub fee people they can drop from things they already developed for the expansion

I prefer the existing model and I see no reason to change that. Your proposal would only divide the community in players with a subscription and players without. That’s not a good thing. And your idea would mean that the devs would implement stuff only for a specific group, also not a good thing.

The game wouldn't change for you though. It would stay exactly the same you can still keep doing the content you prefer to grind and transfer gold to gems/real money and unlock what you like. For people that like to unlock cosmetics through only the game world without having to pretend, "You can pretend you got the raptor skins from silverwastes, and griffon skin from dragonfall if you really want" they can use the sub fee for a more immersive experience where they don't have to interact with a cash shop. The devs don't have to implement anything for any group just anything they add into to the shop, for the sub fee people they just add it somewhere in the game world where the optional sub fee people can go unlock it. Nothing changes just a different way of experiencing the game.

  18. Would people be happy to have an optional monthly sub fee for players that would like to unlock store items within the world of the game and not purchase from the cash shop(using either real money or transferring gold to gems)

With the Sub fee it would mean all the purely cosmetic gem store items (weapon skins, mount skins etc) would be unlockable in the game world from doing things like quests, dungeons, completing world bosses, completing story chapters, zone completion, world events, completing jump puzzles etc. An example would be if you completed a certain jump puzzle you would get a mount skin as a reward or a glider skin that would usually be on the store for non subbed players. It wouldn't be rng like the wow loot system it would just mean specific quests or things to be done in the game would drop specific rewards that are usually on the store.

For players that didn't want to sub the game would stay exactly as it is now and they can attain the items by transferring gold to gems or using real money to buy it. Purely an optional sub fee would people be ok with this and would you use it?

  19. I've seen alot of it recently I was doing some map completion in the sandswept isles and there's a lot of rangers at the top of some of the asura structures moving in set paths, auto attacking etc just very obvious botting. I also walked into a cave that was just full of people running against the wall maybe 20 people. Not sure if they were botting but I don't think it's a style of gameplay Anet should be rewarding. It can't take that much effort to hire someone to just police the servers in real time. I could log on now and find 30 bots with minimal effort.

Before if you wanted to get clouded corvus and many other mounts from the original mount adoption license you had to buy 400 gems worth random roll of the original mount license that caused outrage. Anet said in a forum post back in 2017 that there wouldnt be a select type of license

and now they did just that. Am salty, all I wanted was clouded corvus and spent 28x400 gems to get it since there was no other way to get it and there was a forum post saying there wouldnt be a select type of license to get it so I whaled out. You're all welcome to laugh at me

There is more to character progression than mount skins. I didn’t buy my legendary armor sets, the WvW and PvP legendary backpack or my legendary weapons with real money and for me they give me a sense of memorable achievements and character progression.

We know there are a lot of other forms of progression in the game otherwise we wouldn't play it but the OP was just asking for a few more mounts available by just doing things in the game world is it really such a big thing to ask for? and by a few more mounts we mean more than just the default skin for each mount.............is this really a game breaking thing we are asking for are we really asking for too much?

I disagree 100% with maker of this thread. Mount skins should stay in gemstore. If you want other ways to get your mount let me give you ideas

    1. Grind gold and buy mount skin in gemstore. This is better than running the same dungeons or raids over and over again and get kitten by rng. I play wow for 10 years and that one mount called invicible  is not drop yet for me so i quit wow

    2. Make your own quest!. If you want jungle themed mount make yourself a quest to do octovine 10 times then go buy the skin in gemstore after the tenth octovine kill. Like i said again its better than relying on rng for the mount skin to drop when you can just  buy straight from gemstore.

    3. Make Your Own Achievement ! . For example if ur wvw player go and kill 50 enemy players and then when you did kill 50 players go buy yourself a new wvw skin!

It doesn't have to be rng man. Everyone automatically thinks of the wow loot system. It doesn't have to be like that they could be rewards from doing a quest, 100% completing a certain zone or a reward for the first time you complete a world event/world boss or finish a group of story chapters etc. It doesn't have to be.....do a dungeon...not get skin.....do dungeon again.....not get skin....repeated. There's no sense of memorable achievement or character progression if you can just buy something on a store with real money.

I played WoW for 10 years, god I hated every thing about that loot system. I play this game because I like this loot system much better. Its the reason many players are here. Let the kids spam chat with their pointless mount skins in the other games.

In all seriousness do you think it's okay for a game where you paid for the base game and 3 expansions to have 1 mount skin for each mount(the default skin) that is achievable in the game and over 307 mount skins(this doesn't even include glider skins) that are only available on the cash shop? They couldn't add a few more skins achievable from a quest or event or anything even related to any part of the in the game world? Where is this loot system you are talking about? It's all on the store.
