Please explain how the timing of when resources were allocated to either of these matter?  What if all the resources for WvW and sPvP were allocated across the same timeframe as raids?  The resource costs are still the same.  In all cases, players that don’t play those content still bankrolled them. You arguing as if when the resources were spent makes absolutely no sense.

the resource costs are not the same, a shoddy "alliance system" costs less than raids.

i didnt focus on the timing, but i dont see why it doesnt make sense

    - wvw gets played actively (anet's words) for 5 years, they get a new map (a bit late in my opinion)

    - raid doesnt get played actively, no more raids (i'm surprised they didnt stop making raids sooner tbh)

And raids doesn’t deserve attention?  So essentially it comes down to what does and doesn’t deserve attention is based on your personal preferences or feeling about them?

well anet already decided it doesnt deserve attention, the raid team got put onto other things, i didnt make that decision, raiders did.

you see, tradable LI = more people playing raids = more raids from anet. but if you rather hold onto your "prestige"... we had 5 years of trial with raids, enticing people in with a carrot didnt work. you want more raids? get more people playing them.

Yes.  It hurts those who spent 300g to get the functions that come with the tag.

Does it really hurt anyone to require 300g to get squad functions that aren't strictly necessary for group content or accessibility to such content?

i spent 300g on the tag, what they do in their group vs an npc doesnt affect me at all.

    52 minutes ago, kharmin.7683 said:

But aren't those functions already incorporated in the tag?

which is a 300g hurdle, costing some up to 5 weeks to get

if we want people instanced content, why not remove hurdles?

You think a commander tag solves those issues like people running staggered or figuring out roles?  I'm sorry if I have to be the first to inform you that it doesn't.

so just to clarify, OP isnt asking for the tag, just group functions

now, lets say you are right, it doesnt help. but does it hurt anyone?

So... WvW has more attention than Raids? Isn't that what I said? Raids getting nothing, WvW getting Alliances.

To lessen the load on Anet let's just not ask them to develop a new Legendary armor set, since, you know, less dev time.

i was pointing out to the other guy wvw is getting attention it deseves, comparing it to "punishment", not sure what your point was

and if you read OP's post, he's not asking for new armor set...

The Aerodrome came out around 2015, Envoy armor skins came out in 2016-2017., if Anet didn't add a way to spend Magnetite on MC and Clovers the last addition of Raid currency item would be in 2019.

The last date for exclusive currency items in OW? 2022.

Not like WvW is going to get Alliances or anything.

And? Look at the resources it took to develop sPvP and WvW to its current state.  How about the resources currently being spent for alliances? Look at the resources it took to develop raids to its current state. The timing of when the resources were used isn’t relevant.

"12. Memes about WvW being dead are just memes, WvW actually has one of the most healthy population numbers in the game." https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Alliances, can't say the same about raids

+ it's their first "major" update in 5-6 years vs raid regular update for 5-6 years

+ alliance is just "system" changes? a lot less dev time vs new raid

+ around 2015 wvw was actually quite popular. granted it was mostly eotm playing like pve, it was still wvw. only after pip did eotm die

What percentage of players do sPvP?  What percentage of players do WvW?  That’s content that a minority of players participate in but has been bankrolled by the majority of players. You will see this in all MMOs.

those game mode havent gotten any major updates in like 5/6 years? for the most part they just get anet's "balance" patches. their legendary armor are just existing reskins.

raids on the other hand get custom maps, mechanics and enemies.

You are inventing some bizarre narrative where non-raiders are punished for being openworld only players. They're not and if somebody thinks this they are clearly deluded beyond help or reasonable discussion.

"punished" is probably too strong a word, but depends how you look at it

i think only 5% of the playerbase plays raids? assuming they account for 5% of the game's playtime/income, you get 95% of the playerbase bankrolling content they never get to enjoy, rewards they never get. is that "punishment"?

Old Ultima Online player here. Housing was a huge success there.

From an economy standpoint having this would add another material/gold sink into the game which wouldn't be so bad. It may even come with a new profession carpentry. So you can make different items to place in your house.

while i can understand why some people like housing, i like the idea of it too, but i doubt its implementation can be meaningful (widely used). gw2 nodes are interesting, but they cost way too much.

wildstar had one of the best housing systems in "recent" mmo history, even mixing with gameplay, still went down and down

economy-wise i've played games with housing, where the "housing" element was pretty much forgotten by everyone, and people spent tiny amounts of money/gold there vs rest of the game

so (to make an excuse for anet), i rather they spend dev resources elsewhere

And if you want to be rewarded for effort... wvw/pvp?

When two teams compete, they can't all win. When people play cooperative modes, they all win as a group ^^ Yes, there is a pretty obvious difference between these modes and that difference results in having different reward systems.

i dont know how pvp works, but for wvw, i've gone in there with firebrand, in soldier armor, in random support build, and just focused on staying alive/tagging enemies. wasnt helpful to the team at all, but i was getting max participation.

if i didnt find wvw so boring i wouldve gotten my legen armor there.

wvw can be challenging, but you can also be more braindead than open world and not lose out.

Problem is that pretty much all features that come with commander tag can be consiered "basic function", so where to draw the line?

Visible tag whilst in a squad? basic

    Ready check? basic

    Markers? basic for sure

50-man squad? oh yes, basic need for things like DE meta

Squad message? maybe not that hot but should be a basic function since it's basic QoL to be able to type a message

Depending on who you are, none, one, or more of these would count as basic, so again: where to draw the line? I've got a tag and I don't mind tagging up for these basic features, so for me the answer is "the line sits in a good spot as it is".

If you wanna do Strikes with random People, the intuitive way would be: One Group leader opens a Squad in Lfg, puts the people who join in the two Sub-Groups(which is now relevant with the recent changes to Boons) and makes a Ready-Check so the group can move onto the boss as a unit and not a staggered Mess. To be clear cause i read a similar Post a while ago:

I DO NOT WANT a Commander-Tag. I don't want to lead Meta-Events and i sure as Hell don't want to lead some WvW-zerg. I just want basic group function when i go into Strikes without paying 300G for a Tag i do not want.

OP is quite clear where the line is. he's not asking for a visible tag in a public setting, or the ability to lead 50 people.

these 2 features should require some investment from the commander. but i dont see why the rest shouldnt be added to help random groups better tackle strikes.

isnt that the whole idea? to get more people into strikes and maybe eventually raids? but your average person is being kitten every step of the way

fyi 300g costs more than the "average" person makes in a week, even if they are super efficient (chances are they are making 5-10g/hr, so around 5 weeks)

    https://www.techrepublic.com/article/8-hours-and-27-minutes-thats-how-long-the-average-gamer-plays-each-week/

for the record, i did spend the 300g on a tag

Yes since you can see that one or two did not press yes, then you obviously dont attack.

Everyone should just stack and jump in place to show they are at keyboard and when the one or two persons are in the stack and jumps you can run in.

Not like you need a rc at all.

    Edit

And it is not a group function it is a squad function since there are more then 5 players.

harvest temple for example, starts right away

this is also just one basic feature out of many

Strikes have a built in ready check, without that you can't start the encounter.

problem is, that check starts off a majority vote, doesnt matter if 1 or 2 is afk when the rest starts

Very true. For many people, I think this must be their first video game. They do not realize how common it is for developers to put rewards behind different types of content to incentivize people to do said content.

true, but like someone said already, it's been 5-6 years, clearly not working

    That's also fine. You don't have to😀

i know, i save up like 1.5-2k gold per month. just waiting for strike cms before i start buying raids. tradable LIs could save some gold thats all

edit: if any raid sellers see this, feel free to send my how much you charge

I, personally, like to play games to stimulate me and have fun achievening challenges.

that's fine, so if LI is tradable, you can play raids & have fun, while making some extra gold from selling LI.

while i, after my 40 hr week, dont want to spend 5-10 hrs a week learning/failing content i dont like. i barely even play more than 10hr a week nowadays

Nope. Legendaries are not even mandatory for playing. Stay as they are.

You want the legendaries? work hard for them either by learning to play raids or by working hard IRL and buying those sellings(even tho everyone and their mother are welcome to raids even in pugs).

Same as the fricking Gift of Battle. You want them? Work for them even if you hate it(as IRL with work and money).

thats why i play a game, to work hard in it
