  1. I'm running a clean program with no third party add-ons. I'm still getting crashes from the character screen. So I decided to start from scratch. Installed a brand new copy. Still crashes when attempting to load in from character selection.
  2. I had other ideas that I tossed out. Apparently chocolate covered nuts aren't good for squirrels and so motivating them to run faster and give servers more power didn't work. Guild maps for guild groups I tossed out too. I didn't think someone would want to stand around and figure out how to create a map just for group play. Apparently the developers don't know how to bend space and time so a whole bunch of ideas had to be tossed out there too. The premise here is that because it's a weekday, fewer people are going to be available to play then would be on Friday. Yes, people want to play because it's reset night. People also want to play because it's the start of a weekend after a long day of work. I'm working from the theory that fewer people are available on Thursday's and so the "reset queue" might be a bit smaller. The reality is that, yes, it would be nice for more people to be able to play and yes, it would be nice if there were more maps or better servers, or any number of things that could fix it. I was just looking at it as a way to MAYBE alleviate some of the queue issues as well as provide a way to play on the weekend without having to deal with a "reset queue". Although doing it earlier in the day might work too. IF, you were to reset everything at say 6 or 7 EST Thursday. It would still give people time to try and play on Thursday's for reset and because it's earlier, there's still time to get in some game play before heading to bed. Then when Friday rolls around, the only time there might be a larger queue, is later in the evening as we get closer to the time people typically play on the weekends. Yea, some people wouldn't be happy about that but people aren't happy about a month or more going by and not being able to get into play on ANY reset night or ANY Friday night. People wanna hang out with friends and play and I just thought it would make it easier to do that in WvW on Friday's.
  3. First I want to thank all the people who have been hard at work trying to resolve the varied issues with WvW and the queue. Hopefully, this is an idea to come at the problem from a slightly different angle. (I have to type fast before all the blood rushes to my head.. ) During almost every day during the week I can almost always get into WvW, except Friday nights. This means that the queue is the most problematic on those Friday nights. Here are some things to note. 1. It's Friday. The one day people are most likely to be free to play. This means more than normal are looking to see some WvW action. 2. It's reset night, the one night everyone is kicked out of WvW and twice as many want back in. Now we have a really large group of people trying to get through a very small door. I'm wondering if it might not alleviate the queue issues by simply moving reset to Thursday nights. (or any other night) This would leave the WvW maps already up and going by Friday night and give people more freedom to play on the one night most people want to play. While there still might be a queue, I feel it might be a more friendlier and fuzzier queue. Maybe even a queue you might wanna take home and show your parents. 🙂 I'm thinking that maybe it would be more like people would trickle in on Friday nights instead of a massive queue and Thursday nights probably won't have as many people available to play. It might balance things out a little more. Or you could figure out a way to bend space and time and start putting server duplicates in pocket dimensions... ---drew--
  4. The original intent on my post was just to have a little fun but if I wanted to take a slightly more serious approach... If I understand WvW, it's 3 servers of people fighting over stuff. Assuming that you allow 100 people per server, then you end up only having a total of 300 people. I'm guessing that a lot more than 300 people want to play. From my "research" I've determined that there is an upper limit to how much a server can do so it's not always just a matter of opening up more slots. You also have to think of the physical space we have to battle in. Right now it seems pretty big and even on reset night you can wander the map for a while before actually running into someone. You increase the number of people without giving them more space to play in, you'll end up with a different set of problems. I will say that the only night I really have an issue is normally on reset nights but most of the time during the rest of the week, I get in without an issue regardless of the time of night or day. This means that during those times, there probably aren't enough people playing to provide some kind of balance. I think that perhaps a change to the way the queue behaves might help. I'm not a very accomplished programmer so I'm not sure how easy it would be to set this up, but, this is what I might do. This would mostly be to handle those times when the maps are full or during reset. There is no longer a "confirm" button to enter the queue. Maps "buttons" should have an indicator when the map is full so that when you click on the button, you know you are automatically going into the queue and will enter the map automatically as soon as space frees up. After you enter, you are given a button to push within X amount of time before your ejected. This is just to make sure you don't get anyone AFK taking up space. This would work the same even during a reset. There wouldn't be constant left clicking on a button to hopefully get in. You would click the button and since the server is unavailable then there are no slots on the map and you will enter the queue and be given a number. So while everyone is waiting for the reset to complete and the maps to open, you'll already be in a queue and know if your going to be one of the lucky few. Then if you find out your number 100, then you can decide to go off and do something else. This also could (maybe?) open up the possibility of offering them a second map. Something like "your place in the queue exceeds the number of slots available on this map. Would you like to queue for map2?" I'm pretty sure gerbils and hamsters get along, so you could probably put them both on the same wheel....
  5. First, I'm a new player and I haven't even had the game for a year yet. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. When attempting to play WvW, I got stuck in a queue for over 50min. Bored, I went to the forums to find out if there was a specific number for the servers and ran into issues that appear to still be present from years back. I'm finding this to be mostly normal in MMO's. However, this has prompted me to make this post as I'm still waiting in queue and I'm still bored. You could have the fastest most robust server in the world and even it too will eventually reach a processing limit when dealing with a large number of players on a map. Not to mention it would be like trying to fit a thousand people into a VW Bug. (the old one not the new one hehe) Increasing the number of players on a map will most likely only be able to be accomplished with an increase in server resources as well as map size. So I thought I'd ask a few questions/make some suggestions until such a time that this theoretical server could be realized. 😄 Could you use two servers to handle a single map and balance the players between both servers? What about a second group of servers for overflow instead of a queue? Could you use secondary servers to offload some of the work? (this might be getting into server clustering) ..and now for something completely different... Have you thought about offering snacks for those that are waiting? Some chips and salsa would be nice. Call ahead queuing. Could we be offered the option to voluntarily enter a queue and begin waiting early? How about an observation deck above where we can watch while we wait? Maybe even be able to place bets? WvW TV. Live video coverage of ongoing battles. Have you considered adding squirrels and gerbils to the hamsters powering the servers? Do you think it might be possible to get a team together to capture an alien spacecraft and use it's computers instead? Have you considered turning reality off and then back on again? ---drew--- P.S. This post intended for entertainment purposes only. *grin*
