That's a bit weird, isn't it? You've projected yourself on a character with a personality you have very little control over, but somehow maintain immersion, yet a 3rd party saying "They" instead of "he" will bring you out of it?

Interesting how such an unimportant thing makes so much difference, huh? In other games that were always like this, I don't mind, but here I've gotten used to my own pronouns. And I actually agree with most of my character's choices/dialogue inside the story so that's not a problem for me.

I've never had a character represent me. They are dolls to push around the gaming board.

The personality of the main character has been more or less set the entire GW2 experience. They are vocal and have a personality. The choices you can make are very few and, while it might impact parts of the story, does not change your characters personality at all. My Female Sylvari says, sounds, and does the exact same thing as your Female Sylvari.

Well doesn't that make the pronouns even more important for those of us that project themselves onto their character? Outside the story, I'd argue that every choice you make represents you through your character, be it reacting to events or whether you try to save NPCs or fight as many enemies as you can. But inside the story, pronouns are one of the most prominent things that reflect each player.

I'm kind of amazed someone would care this viscerally about generic pronouns.

One thing I will observe that is...interesting...is that the adoption of generic pronouns, as an affirmative action juxtaposed against the current cultural backdrop that is still getting used to nongendered language, is in fact quite antithetical to the idea of an MMO avatar. What I mean is, adopting they/them pronouns into your casual lexicon really has nothing to do with you, your identity, or your comfort; it is thoroughly an action of sacrificing aspects of one's own conception of self and other (here, emphasis on self), in order to accommodate *other people* who benefit from that shift in framing. Translating that idea to the setting of character creation in an MMO is tacitly conceding that same point virtually.

In effect, the evergreen MMO idea of character customizability, self expression, and in some instances self-identification, is in fact...undermined, ever so slightly. By a lessened ability to masculinize or feminize your character, and by the tacit implication that community-building is *more important*

But guess what: ethical and communal paradigms have their own virtues, and in the balancing of liberty and duty, we all absolutely are all better off sacrificing small vestigial slivers of hierarchical expression if it benefits the broader community. Every MMO has to balance total freedom and keeping the community alive. Many MMOs have already elected to not have...sliders, to avoid unnecessary objectification and sexualization in commonplace interactions. This transition to generic pronouns is just another variation on that.

I... have no idea why you would try to make your reply sound this complicated, it doesn't sound smart it's just confusing. Anyways, from what I understand, no, I will not sacrifice my immersion or identity or whatever, just so the developers can put less effort into the game. If they/them pronouns were a part of the game from the start, I would be fine. They weren't. If the developers wanted to be inclusive like I think you're suggesting, they would add the option to choose they pronouns on top of he/she. They didn't. If for whatever reason they still did it to be inclusive, or had any other valid reason for changing it, they would explain it in a blog or somewhere else. So far they haven't which only cements the feeling they're playing dead hoping it'll blow over.

So you're basically saying your affection for the game depends more or less on the pronouns of your (reminder) fictional character lol?

No, I'm saying I enjoy the story as a whole and now that a seemingly unimportant but actually surprisingly noticable part of it has changed a certain part of that enjoyment is gone and it affects my entire experience. I like to immerse myself into my character so it's not just a fictional character in those moments, it's, well, me. Again, continuity matters.

Check out Kiki.9450's comment, that explains it well

When games started letting you choose your gender, they used the singular they/them so the game wouldn't need to check your gender, nor would they need to spend time adding in more dialog just for gender. No one gave a flying fig newton. Most of us still don't give a flying fig newton.

    I have two problems now:

    1. People are whining, in thread after thread, about how Anet is being cheap on everything EXCEPT this, which is somehow ONLY a political thing.

    2. The people quibbling over not using pronouns now because "Politics!" are opening the door for more than just he/she. What's good for the goose is good for the gander; If you get your pronouns, it's only fair that everyone gets their pronouns too.

The fantasy game is a fantasy. Any connection to the real world is irrelevant. Even if Anet wants to shoehorn in everything I am against politically... it's still just a fantasy and has no affect irl.

If it was always they/them, no one would care, not even me... but it wasn't. For 10 years. The real problem here is continuity. They/them could be added as choosable pronouns, but 10 years of story just wouldn't include it. They can start only reffering to us as they and it'll break the immersion of many of those who paly the story chronologically.

The best solution would probably be for ANet to stop cutting corners already and just keep it as it was since literally no one complained about it and it was actually a plus for the game. Hopefully at least whatever comes after SotO will do so or something like it.

so this is the new hot topic right now in gaming, huh?
first people blowing up about Starfield giving people the options; and now GW2 (saving time by not having to record multiple takes of the same voiceline) removing the option.

people need to find a hobby

We do have a hobby, it's called Guild Wars 2. And we aren't 'blowing up', simply expressing our disliking of a change in our hobby hoping ANet will take our feedback into account when making future content

That is all I am going to say about this, it's a risky thing to touch ..... slowly back away from the topic.

Yes it is risky and it shouldn't be. If none of us talk about what we like/dislike about new content, nothing will change and ANet will just do whatever, so I'd say it's better people talk about it, no matter how risky the topic

This is in no way against the OP but I never even noticed the change. Out of all the things in the game that need reworking/fixing, pronouns wouldn't even be on the bottom of my list, they/them wouldn't make it on my list at all. The broken defense mechanics in WvW, the Alliance beta that was supposed to happen this summer but instead seems to have disappeared, without a word from Anet, those are the things that concern me. Again, no problem whatsoever with the OP, I'm just giving feedback on what I think would make a better game.

That's good! I'm glad it doesn't bother you

Again, in which part of the content the Commander was called they/them? I really really never noticed it. All I heard was commander or wayfarer. Please be specific on the chapter and instance.

Pretty much anywhere anyone talks about you to another character. Hell Breaks Loose when Zojja finds you, and in that instance where you fight the ettin lady and Zojja talks to her about you is the most noticeable (I'm out right now so can't check but I think it was something like Mother of Stars?)

    lol who cares

they is perfect if everyone like u start asking their proper pronounce we.end.up with 100

also side note for lols Ranger with pet, engi with mech and necro with minon are perfect for be called they 😀

pps many languages don't even use he she as gender differention.

Yeah no I'm not asking them to accomodate every single white kid who suddenly identifies as whatever/whatnot just because it's in, I just want to keep the story as it was in this regard, because the previous dialogue quality has me kinda spoiled. If there weren't pronouns to begin with, I would have no problem whatsoever, but there were.

While the ranger/necro/engi is a good point and will make it easier for me while replaying the story, my main is a revenant so no help there

  11. THIS IS IN NO WAY AGAINST NON-BINARY PEOPLE, IT ONLY CONCERNS THE PLAYER CHARACTER. I'm not trying to argue about real world views of non-binary folks, I just want to give ANet some genuine feedback/advice and see what other people think about the issue, so please be nice.

I've been enjoying SoTO's story so far, but having my character called they/them after 10 years of being a she feels incredibly impersonal and somewhat ruins the immersion for me. I get that it's more work to give our characters pronouns, and most games don't even bother, but it's one of the smaller things that made me fall in love with gw2, and now that it's gone after I got used to it... that love is being tested (look at me getting all poetic heh).
ANet, please please please consider changing this back in the future releases. I don't know if it was because of limited time or if you just wanted to cut the costs, but either way it has a bigger impact than I'd have thought possible, and in my opinion is definitely worth the extra effort to change. I think even eventually going back to revise it in acts 1-4 would be worth it (though I understand computers about as well as an ettin so I have no idea how difficult, if even possible, that would be). I love the story, I love the game, and I want to keep playing, so please keep giving it the love you have (and thank you for that by the way).

Again, no problem whatsoever with non-binary folks, just giving feedback to hopefully better the game.

What kind of scans did you run so far?

There was both a Windows update and Nvidia driver update (I see you installed the Nvidia driver) at roughly the same time you report you started experiencing these crashes.

You could try using DDU to remove/resinstall the Nvidia driver and/or go back to the previous version to see if your system still crashes.

Alright thank you, I will try that

  13. Started happening roughly two days ago, usually only the game crashes but sometimes it goes all the way. Could be something unrelated to the game but it's the only thing that's been crashing repeatedly. My biggest non-game related suspect is drivers but no scan found any problems

Here's the crash log, can anyone make sense of it?

  14. Yes, I know it's a bit late for this question, but I only recently thoroughly read trough the march sale timetable and noticed LW packs weren't on the list like all years before. I was planning to buy them then, so I gotta know, are they actually being excluded or are they just not on the list? Thanks in advance for answers

  15. Starting a long-term project, I was messing around with gw2bltc and noticed a massive spike in the prices of the more common ores (mithril, silver, gold etc.) between roughly June and April of 2021. And we're not just talking a few copper, at some days the prices shot up to twenty times of those today. I've looked through update notes for the time, but found nothing that could apparently cause this, and other items don't seem to have been affected at the time. Is this just a coincidence or did something happen back then?

Edit: thanks for the answers y'all, great to be a part of this amazing comunity
