Or are they just bunkering down and praying that this will blow over?

Yes, they have outright closed the thread that talks about the damage of gamble boxes instead of merging it. Interesting, huh?

Yeah, I noticed that too. All of our psychological evidence gone in one fell swoop, when they eventually clear it away. I might repost my stuff in this thread just so everyone gets a chance to see it before the other thread "disappears." I love how that merged almost ALL of the other threads, but that one.

Speaking of conspiracy theories, anyone else feeling like this ridiculous level of public blowback over a pricing plan is being engineered and puppeted by some tiny portion of unscrupulous string pullers for their own selfish ends? It's the only rational explanation.

    =P

No, it's not the only rational explanation. Not everything is a conspiracy.

If you buy them one at a time, over time, 400gems each is actually really good, cheaper than a lot of skins on the TP. My sole issue is the RNG. I have no interest in paying for things i dont want and wont use, and cant even sell. And to buy all of them, whether you do it at once or over a period of time, is NOT cheap, but you may not be able to get all the ones you want without doing so. And in the end, i dont want to pay a total of $120 once, or up to $400 over time, just to get a total of 4 or 5 skins i actually want. If it were not RNG, i could just buy the 4 or 5 inwanted for 400gems each, and not have a problem... even if they were more expensive than 400each, price them at the rate of glider skins and as long as they arnt RNG, id have no problem paying.

The point is that the only way people can guaranteed get the skins they want is to either gamble or pay $120+, not that they want to buy them all.

If it were an in-game bonus that you can't get through in-game means, I would be right there on the bandwagon with y'all. As it is, it's a LUXURY item. Using the car analogy of another poster, it's not saving for a Mercedes and spinning the wheel to get a Pinto. It's buying the Mercedes and spinning to get bluetooth, performance tires, or some other upgrade. Those things aren't something you have to have, but if you want them, you have to pay extra.

My only request would be that they be public and not bound. There would be a HUGE in-game market for them.

It's not a luxury item when 5 of them are in game and 30 of them are in the cash shop, and mounts were made an integral part of the game. This is a game based around cosmetics, and they locked 30 out of 35 skins behind an RNG, account-bound, $120 paywall. Stop minimising this, it's just encouraging them to be jerks to their playerbase. I have been a fan of this company for over a decade, it's OK to find fault when a company does something wrong.

Many people play this game because they feel that they aren't being milked, and this new course will drive customers away. Most of my friends have decided to stop buying gems until Arenanet reverses course.

    Don't squander this community's goodwill.

I am one of them. Not a cent until this is fixed. The only reason I haven't quit outright is my guild.

Nothing "predatory" about this at all. That's just an exaggeration by inappropriately labeling something they don't like.

Right, they just want to trick people into spending much more on multiple attempts at winning the skin they want, rather than just letting them buy it outright. Nothing predatory about that. /S

They are letting players buy them outright if you buy the bundle. It's not cheap, but it's there.

And you could win the lottery if you just buy a ticket for every possible combination of numbers.

That's ridiculous and you know it. To compare 1:30 chance to 1:1,000,000+ chance is absurd.

The fact that the system exists is ridiculous. Let people either buy the one they want, and/or buy a pack by mount type, and/or make them tradeable on the trading post, so whales like me can buy the whole set with a clean conscience while players with a smaller budget can set smaller but specific goals.

  6. @atomy.3817 said:Anyways, you can't seriously argue that they expect the average person to buy the whole set. They know that most people will behave just the way I described, they'll buy tickets until they get the skin they want.

This burned me so bad on AION (another NCSoft game) that I quit and I don't gamble like that anymore. And considering that the reason I bought this game was to a) support ANet and b) mounts mounts mounts, I'm seriously pissed.

It's not a business's job to look out for children unless that is what their business is based around.

I live in Vegas, and casinos do, in fact, have anti-addiction measures in place, as well as contribute to anti-addiction programs. The system ANet came up with is basically slots. Its black lion boxes certainly are (the interface is a simplified version), and so is this mount system. The only difference is that you are guaranteed some kind of result, as opposed to none. The issue is that folks rightly want the chance to pick a skin (and/or trade them, but there is no such option unlike almost everything else in loot boxes), and IDK why you would argue against that.

I'm one of those vaunted whales, and I think this is wrong. I haven't bought a single skin.

  8. I'm really upset. I've been with the franchise since early GW1. Mounts were what I wanted most to be added to GW2. Now we get a bunch of them, and the choice is gamble RNG at 5 bucks a pop, or pay over a hundred to get the one you want, guaranteed.

    That's not fair.

I can't even begin to express the disappointment I'm feeling about this patch. I thought you guys were better than that. I've put in 9k hours on this game alone, have been with you guys for over a decade, and have whaled out on quite a few months when I knew the game was doing poorly (and when it was doing well) just to support you guys with my wallet, and now you guys just want to soak me for another 120+ bucks? After I bought the most expensive xpac option for HoT AND PoF?

I would be paying _less _to play WoW and have some 200 mounts I can get in-game. I know, because that's what I used to do before I came here.

I'm an invalid, I want an MMO to be able to run around under blue skies and hang out with my friends. GW2 was what felt like MY MMO. I turned to this game when I was struggling with cancer just to get real life out of my head. But this just makes me feel MORE sick, not better. I don't know what to do.

If you guys had been up front about this from the launch of the xpac, that it would cost double to quadruple the amount of PoF just to access its mount skins, I would have passed.
