I've yet to see anything claiming that she became the "Grand" Duchess, but she did have the title Duchess when we see her in Dragon's Stand.

Well, even if she is not the official current leader of the Nightmare Court, I can believe she swayed a lot of less violent Courtiers to her side and any weakening of the Court may have had the impact of lessening the attacks.

Though I was looking for more in-game examples, someone pointed me to this: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/after-the-dragon-cycle/

It still didn't give too much. Peculiarly, the sylvari recovering from Heart of Thorns...which would've been eight years ago...I don't know about that. Also wasn't interested in what Braham, Kasmeer, Taimi, etc. were doing, but the overall world as far as what's still threatening what, schemes going on, how Hoelbrak, Black Citidel, Sandswept Isles look now (if I recall, the Dragonvoid burst out of the ground in those regions), if they ever built that one fort finally in Caledon Forest, if Divinity's Reach's carnival ever opened or Mona's Shooting Gallery ever stopped being booked. (Okay, I'm kidding about those last two).

Are the Inquest defunct, and if they are, would they still be represented in Rata Sum? Nightmare Court attacks on the Grove have lessened, but do we know why? What's the point of the Pact anymore? Even pushing the Dragonvoid corruption stuff aside, the Dragons were there to prevent Tyria from having excess magic, and now that they're all dead (and Aurene specifically does not hold magic) and the magic they held in them has gone back into the leylines and into the world...nothing happens? Or was it just that the Priory and Asura and anyone else had been wrong about their research the entire time? (And even Soo-Won apparently).

But I also understand Soto is going to focus more on Soto things, so I can see them not covering much from Commander's perspective.

I believe that Nightmare Court attacks have lessened since Chrysanthea became the Grand Duchess - in Season 1 content, inside the Tower of Nightmares we can fin a note mentioning that she has much more liberal views than the rest of the court, so probably her being the leader has something to do with it

  3. A few tidbits from me, some from NPC conversations, others from books, etc.

    - Mabon visited Janthir between 1000-1100 AE to set up some sort of protective/warding enchantment, but the reasoning for this decision was not disclosed to anyone by the Wizard's Court
    - Kryptis attacks have been observed near Kirin Peak
    - Mabon hid his wings willingly - an ability we did not know from other Mursaat
    - Lazarus the Dire and Mabon knew about each other
    - Isles of Janthir are not a calm place, according to one note

Despite the apparent retcons surrounding just about every member of the Wizard's Court would make, they do well to explain the contradictions this creates - for example, the Eye of Janthir tried to find Mabon, but couldn't (either because of Amnytas' protection spells or because he's become so un-Mursaat-like over the years) which is why it ended up disintegrating when there were "no more Mursaat left".

I am especially interested in this part, since that diary, where this was mentioned states that Mabon was wondering if "they" have noticed. There is quite a lot of hinting that there may be factions/groups of Mursaat not native to Tyria (so the ones who never even arrived here or remained phased out). Additionally, there were hints that they might also be native to Nayos, not Janthir as previously presumed (the isles may have been their homeland in Tyria after they arrived though.

I'm really happy they are fleshing out these stories since this was always content with cryptic origins, but not much meat on the bones and I do hope we can delve into it more (feels like we may have some continuation of these arcs regarding old races)

  5. Since I am seeing multiple underperforming weapon buffs, I'd like to point to:

    - mesmer scepter - needs either a slight autoattack speed increase or condi damage increase on it because it honestly feels like a wet noodle now.
    - mesmer trident - the projectile bounce on Siren's Call (trident autoattack) is more annoying than not and makes the trident just an underpowered underwater staff. Instead of the bounce, we could have more bleed stacks on the attack or change it to confusion/torment. Damage numbers are also pretty low.
    - mesmer spear - underwater melee combat is difficult enough in its current state and the autoattack on the spear feels clunky to use and aim at most enemies (you almost need to stand in their hitboxes to actually be sure you're hitting). Spear would benefit from a total rework of the autoattack chain (bigger range, animations changed to reflect this). Skill 4 (Slipstream) in its current form also is mostly useless now due to lack of enticing underwater content (after all those years I still hope it's coming, though). Making the skill effect a spherical area, like feedback, would at least make it much easier to use and see for allies.

Baring retroactive continuity, the Eye of Janthir disintegrated because the mursaat species went extinct - it had no more masters to follow so it followed them to death.

I still can see (and personally would love) an expedition to Janthir taking place, especially now that the Mursaat are gone. Who exactly were the mythical inhabitants of the islands gifted with True Sight and what happened to them? Are there more artifacts similar to Eye of Janthir that simply didn't make it out to mainland Tyria? Could it be that some of the Mursaat still are shifted from our reality and bide their time there? Maybe it's the homeland of Samarog-like creatures?

That_shaman's datamined version of Tyria's map is again larger than what is currently visible in-game and surprisingly, Janthir seems to not only be the dark and desolate looking island we know, but there is apparently a whole archipelago of Janthir Isles up north.

I must also admit that it's really curious for me that the Durmand Priory did not have any interest in place so ripe with potential artifacts and lore.

  7. If you visit the Ministry of Archives in New Kaineng you can find there an inconspicuous lore book named "Kurt's Diary". The last entry inside mentions Ogden Stonehealer sending the owner  of the diary (a norn) on his first field assignment... from the Lion's Arch Aerodrome.

If it is indeed a foreshadowing of a new raid wing it would probably take place in Cantha, since the only way that this diary could have been recovered, is for the location of Ogden's assignment to be accessible from Cantha itself.

    What are your thoughts?

  8. Tbh, the lack of Mordremoth's name was addressed but I'm not sure if this was done now during Living World Return, or if it was done earlier - one of Scarlet's journals we find in Dry Top during the story now has an additional scribbled line referencing the name Mordremoth. It's not much, but at least it's something...

  9. I believe that the 'feedback loop' was also acquired from Kralkatorrik, namely, the fact that he and all his creations shared a common resonance - which was Kralkatorrik's weakness. Primordus after absorbing part of Kralk's magical spectrum turned it into an asset of his, since his weakness was his twin's magical spectrum.

As far as the Frozen are concerned, Jormag themselves did not create them, but rather it was Svanir shaman's (possibly imbued by Jormag's magic - I do think that magic was additionally amped up with the Crystal spectrum which would explain the Frozen's resilience to Destroyers, per Ryland's comment at Lake Doric).

  10. Ok, some more questions from me, although they might not be answered due to their nature - I'm gonna give it a shot anyway.

Isles of Janthir - why did Caudecus Beetlestone go there before the events from "Head of the Snake" chapter? It was mentioned in passing by Canach, however nothing more came about it. Also, now that the Mursaat and White Mantle are no more and the Eye of Janthir disintegrated itself, is there any reason to visit this place? It seems pretty odd to me, that the Priory never attempted to send at least a squad to dig for some artifacts, or that the Shining Blade haven't secured some area there due to its obvious connections to White Mantle. I know that many people (counting myself) would actually love to visit and explore the place - but now there is apparently no reason for this. I hope to be proven wrong in the future...

  11. In the fight against Kralkatorrik's Torment, we're fighting the manifestations of foreign magic inside him. Manifestation of Balthazar is named Facet of Fire and War, Zhaitan's is called Facet of Death and Shadow, however Mordremoth's manifestation (whose domains were called Plants and Mind in Living World Season 2) is called 'Facet of Roots and Madness'. Is there any bigger significance behind this change in naming, or is it simply an oversight/retcon? It would have actually interesting implications if Mordremoth's mind magic magnified Kralkatorrik's insanity to the point of developing split persona.

  12. I specifically listened to his whole dialogue and let him almost kill myself to get confirmation. He mentions only 4 of the 5 in order: Dwayna, Melandru, Grenth, Kormir and then adds: May the fires take you all. If we fail to kill him we have to repeat the combo with Aurene and he repeats the whole dialogue. No mention of Lyssa altogether.

Sure that might have been intentional just to shorten the dialogue etc. but I'm not convinced.

  13. Am I the only one who notices that an awful lot of vague hints about Lyssa gets dropped?

    1. Lyssa's Mirror - we still don't get any info on how Balthazar got it.
    2. Lyssa's reluctance to stripping Balthazar of his power (eventually "even" she agreed to the plan, according to Kormir)
    3. Finally, Balthazar in his last moments curses each of the gods by name, one by one... but doesn't mention Lyssa at all.

Coincidences? Or might there be more to the picture?
