  1. Maybe ANet shouldn't be on the front of new MMORPGs if they struggle with money. Even Blizzard (Microsoft), Bethesda (Microsoft) and Square Enix are not trying to make new MMOs and all new titles like New World by Amazon are failing. These companies have all they would need to make it - money, developers, reputation. But no one is interested in new MMOs now until it will be better than current best games. Even games like Throne & Liberty are meh, but meh made with Unreal Engine 5. Don't worth it. Genre is not as popular as it was 10-15 years ago and doesn't have a lot of interest from 2000+ generation, so creating a good MMO not worth it. It's only worth if you know that would be a killer game
  2. Keeping up with who? Genre is barely alive with top 4 games being WoW (2004), FF14 (2013 for second release), GW2 (2012) and TESO (2014). Other games are just not that good, don't have such online or just some korean pay to win games which often not worth attention. Current generation of consoles already showed everyone that it's not worth it. Difference between PS4 and PS5 games are not groundbreaking and almost all of PS games from this gen still runs on PS4 except few games. That and MMORPG best games at the moment show that new games just for new technologies are not really worth it. At least for 2024 technologies.
  3. Point is - maybe they shouldn't develop new MMO and try to add something new to their catalog? Like Overwatch and Hearthstone by Blizzard. I don't think that new MMO without really big genre changing ideas will bring them more money long-term. They could say "Nothing will be transfered" and many people will be forced to buy many store items like tabs, slots etc. again. But does this short term profits justify developing new game in the same genre? More like they can lose trust from their loyal playerbase. Why buy tabs again if I already bought them in the same game from them? We don't even know can they give us anything really new or just same game but with different graphics, story, new legendaries to obtain from scratch? Maybe developing more great expansions for GW2 will be better money wise? Maybe rework some systems like WoW did from Cataclysm onwards? Cata was released in 2010, so 6 years from releasing initial WoW they already started changing their game basics. Maybe rework mastery system? 536 points is a mockery of players already. Many new people are afraid of that number and that system, because too much content are time and story-gated from them by outdated GW2 systems. Maybe give easier access to locations for new players. Like open 1 waypoint in each location for everyone. Rework GW2 for being more friendly for new players. If it will be done as part of big expansion like HoT was - that can bring a lot of players here. If they do marketing wisely ofc. Game is not dead at all. It just feel abandoned for a long time.
  4. There is a difference in monetization. You can buy legendaries and other things like Black lion skins directly from ANet by buying gems and converting it for gold. So, Frostfang for example is around 50$ I think. And I'm pretty sure that a lot of people have many of their legendaries this way, just because earning gold by working is way easier than farming ingame. It's situation that ANet created themselves and now they are responsible for it. You can't buy endgame items directly from Blizzard or GGG. You earn them in raids or dungeons and can't trade or craft them out of gold. So that's easier to justify loss of your items.
  5. I think it's because GW2 has long-term collectible mindset more than other MMOs. In other words - in vertical progression games like WoW you don't really stick to your gear. And almost all endgame gameplay outside of PvP//WvW are based on finally making legendaries. I will still play the game, I enjoy many formats of it, but I don't feel like donating more for new skins, for example. Until there will be some clarification. I hope ANet will not close from players like many devs do.
  6. Many people had concerns what GGG will do with all items. So, at the announcement of PoE2 they just said that all store items will be carried to new PoE. After which people calmed down and the community had almost no worries about the development of a new game. Because other items are not so hard to make, but they don't turn our money to dust. I don't see myself farming bag slots again, bank expansions and other things. I had enough of it. Because it's not a pirate server, which can take your money and close. Because legendaries in gw2 are highly timegated and require a lot of time. Not many games require a 5 weeks-8 weeks to make ONE item (like WvW ring or backpack). Point of legendaries for many people here like "Now I can play any class, any build and don't spend a cent on crafting of equip anymore. I can play who I want and when I want". I can't come up with any other MMO examples which require so much from player to make one item. Leave games like Lineage 2 when in many countries you need to donate a house to make top tier item. That's not complexity. Also because GW2 still have attention of many new people. Many people come here a few months-years ago from WoW, some after other games, and many of them just did their first leggies and planning on doing more. I've already seen official servers of other games dying. At the beggining they will say that there will be no new content. Then they will start to combine servers because there is no people on maps. After that they will combine, combine, combine. Until there is only 3 servers (because WvW needs at least 3 servers). After that game is dead with message like "Money from game is not enough for support, so we are closing the project. Good luck everyone, here a few titles in GW3 for you". Like "Wow, that was quality armor" I started in gw2 in 2012, but didn't like it enough to spend more than few hundred hours until PoF was released. So I played WoW for over 10 years total. And guys, I know game have it's problems now, but I will prefer system like WoW. Upgrades of game little my little, still adding new content. Maybe not as great as 10-15 years ago, but new content. I'm not pushed to always start over and over again. Level up a few levels each expansion is not that hard. Level up every class to new max level is way faster than making of 1 legendary in GW2. It can backfire to ANet, because they made collectible game and now they can take everything that we collected. MMO is not as popular as 10-15 years ago. GW3 may not gain many new people, but lose a lot of old ones. P.S. Also there can be a situation like Payday 2 and Payday 3. Developers wasted a lot of money and all people are playing old game because new one sucks.
  7. Some people can connect dots like ANet is connected with NCSoft so ANet can develop new Lineage/Aion etc. and not GW 😁
  8. Salaries is way bigger problem than infrastructure. Saying that as a developer in bank who was involved in infrastucture planning. A lot of pirate game servers with 5k+ online infrastructure cost just a few thousand $ a month. And salary (with bonuses) of one good developer in US is at least 8k $ a month. Maybe they should think about opening game studios in Eastern Europe, for example. Salary of good developers here can be about 2 times less. Development in US is very expensive. That's why many startups have a business in US/Western Europe and developers in Eastern Europe/post Soviet countries/Asia
  9. I don't think that feedback like this theme will be bad for them. At least ANet can think about how to make a correct transit from GW2 to GW3 and don't lose a lot of audience because they lost everything they gained in GW2 and they already tired of doing it all over again. Horizontal progression is what keeps many people playing GW2. Not many people like to play games like FIFA and pay/lose progress again and again.
  10. WoW will not be forever too, but if you played from 2004 you still have items from that time, you still have achievements from 2008, mounts from that time, wardrobe which you collected. I think what many people, and me too, are afraid of is that people will divide between two games and ANet will just close GW2 and wipe almost all that we did in GW2. I don't want my time spent in GW2 to become a few titles in GW3
  11. I understand people who want to stop playing. I hope ANet will clarify what they will do with all achievements, legendaries, items from store. If we will start from scratch - what's the point of playing now if all of it can become dust in few years? That would be great if GW3 will be just reskin of GW2 with refactored code, so they can add content faster, use more modern technologies, etc and all data from GW2 will be transfered to GW3 But anyway - I started playing GW2 on release and in 2024 I don't feel that GW2 is old game
  12. Okay. I found a workaround for this. Problem is that I created my account 10 years ago from Russia. I used other region account and was able to redeem codes. GJ at reminding people that they were born in wrong country, even though they leave it a long time ago and even got another citizenship. That's not your accomplishment that you were born in US or any EU country. That's just luck. Remember this.
  13. Not steam account. I created this account around 10 years ago and recently returned to GW2. As I said in first post, redeeming gem cards worked fine before sale that started yesterday
  14. You mean Redeem Code button? Doesn't work with gem codes. They are 20 length and you can enter only 25 length code here. For expansions etc.
