  1. Saw this in rotation for daily for me and I was naive enough to think "Oh...they added this to the daily rotation? Does that mean they fixed this mini-dungeon?"

I've been such a fool! Course this wasn't fixed. Same thing with how in the last LW release they had several events as part of a collection that lack any conveyance at all which means you have to use a guide. Looking at you 'Defeat the Purist champion' event chain! How are these events connected? There is nothing there to convey to the player that a champion enemy has spawned in some corner of the map.

We're just locking content, whether its dailies or collections behind broken content. Haven't forgotten about the amber elemental either! This will bug out too so you better hope you're on a map where it isn't. Well look at that, its the same map as what were talking about.

No wonder players don't do it. They don't know about it or it's bugged like the case is here with this daily.

Either remove the dungeon from the rotation or fix it. Pick whichever is easier Arenanet, please.

  2. I was actually the opposite.

I had an odd sinking feeling leading up to the launch. Had my reservations before. Watched some of the trailers. Saw some interesting stuff, some of it good, some no so great.

Then I played it and I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised and this expansion has revitalized my interest and desire to play.

Everything besides relics looks and feels great and I can't wait to play some more.

  3. The biggest issue people are having with the relic system, inlcuding myself is the implementation.

It feels especially bad right now because as others have said, we just traded over 100 different runes and their functions for 40 relics.

Many of which that have very specific procs which means some will work better than others.

The relic system has a lot of potential and it just requires that Arenanet expand the relics available, but we won't be getting that for another 3 months so, feels bad.

Until then, we will have to make do with what we have.

I think OP is forgetting something. Feedback, positive or negative, shows that people care. The day you get 0 feedback for a release is when you should start to worry.

    Very good point.

People tend to imagine games reaching the end of their life cycle is some sort of huge controversy and it all goes up in flames.

When more often than not, it's a slow and quiet end where people just disappear from the game. They just stop logging in 1 day here, then another day there. Then not at all.

A game stops having a viable population and it put into maintenance mode and then ultimately has the plug pulled.

I think we are far from that here as we are all here discussing things one way or the other.

  5. This doesn't make sense. The rewards on offer through AA easily outweigh the 1 gold that was lost from the old dalies.

If gold is the end goal, then there are a ton of other methods to getting it and with minimal effort depending on what expansions and LW seasons/maps you own.

Laurels alone can be used as a means to make gold if you trade AA for laurels.

If and I mean, if we want to complain about rewards being different, we could perhaps talk about EoD vendors for strikes having rewards moved around to SottO vendors.

  6. Having a reward structure that lets players save up, pick and choose the rewards they want and most of those items being things that could have easily been shoehorned into the gemstore is an amazing change and one that I welcome. Not only that, but there is no FOMO being forced into it as items from previous seasons (Are they called seasons? I'm not sure.) can still be earned as you play.

These new dailies and weeklies are better but it is not perfect either.

The real answer is likely somewhere in between and it is thankfully something Arenanet can tweak and adjust.

As I understand it, we no longer get potions to help progress PvP and WvW tracks. So if you happen to pick those, you are not getting less rewards and progress towards those.

That never feels great and I hope Arenanet addresses that or at least explains why two other game modes are being made to be less rewarding than before.

I noticed that he detects you immediately if he's close by, even if he faces the other direction, the cone in front of him mean nothing, just make sure to leave the bushes and move up once his a fair distance away, keep an eye on him when you get out, if he turn around, just go back in hiding and let him move further away.

Yeah I noticed this as well. This threw me off because the cone means nothing and is just indicative of where the kill zone is. Detection is not clear.

Best thing is to wait til they are in the opposite end of the room and try leaving your hiding spot to see if he snaps around suddenly. If he does then get back into the hiding spot obviously.

I have no issues with people having opinions. I have a problem with the way they present them. There is constructive criticism and there is straight up bashing the developers and the game. Instead of hurling insults, why not hurl suggestions to other players as well the developers at large.

Exactly what I was getting at.

Some people are saying they want blood and that people "should be fired for their stupidity." Which is insane.

No people should not lose their jobs and way of life because they chose to push a game you play down a particular direction. It's fine to have an opinion, but not to attack people and the content of their character because "I don't like it!"

  9. People need to stop having opinions on things about anything right now! Ignore the fact that I am also expressing an opinion!

In all seriousness though there are effective ways to express said opinions.

Whether you think SottO is good or bad. There is a big difference between saying "This expansion sucks because it sucks!" versus "I don't think relics helps resolve the issue of build diversity right now."

  10. I wanted to share a slightly updated opinion after having played a little bit last night.

Yes the first map has a lot of reused assets as we could see from the trailer, but this is not the first time a map has reused assets and it's just a smart way to design.

Gyala Delve used a lot of Orr assets as it was literally a frozen sea, Jahai back in Season 4 used a lot of assets as parts of the Mists were pouring into the region. Now we have something similar happening and that's what Fractals always were as well.

They've done a nice job being creative with the area we start out in and it is also nice to finally hang around Wizard's Folly for any old school GW players.

Relics are as of right now as there are just 40 of them and a lot of them operate with very, very specfic procs is still pretty cheeks. That's not to say that it cannot become something great later as more are added, but it is quite bad right now.

  11. I can't comment on the other aspects as I haven't had the chance to log in and give any of it a fair shake.

Based on the trailers I was worried about the new maps being a bunch of reused assets but I guess I will see later.

Relics as I am reading seem to be a disaster as this was not communicated effectively.

Arenanet said they were going to be making runes function as 1 to 1 with the new relic system and that this would allow for more freedom of design and player customization. Except one small issue. There are 40 relics in the game right now with over 100 runes.

So they are planning to release more relics. Fine.

When is that exactly? Entire builds no longer have a key function to them and with nothing to replace it with. If this was supposed to be about diversifying builds then they have not done well on that front.

  12. I mean if there was a point that Arenanet got carried away with things that might be considered "furry" or "anime" and "pop culture" then that all happened a long time ago.

Heck many of the skills from GW1 were pop culture references.

The Special Ops armor works aesthetically given the current setting we are in. Had they released this with the core game and tried to say this was the Special Lion Guard armor set then I would find it out of place.

This is an armor set that was made from materials that resulted from a collaboration of Elder Dragons and their magic with human innovation. They have reactors powering massive cities here.

At the end of the day, if someone really, really can't stand the armor then they don't have to wear it. They can set other players as simple models or simply not play.

overall I was quite unimpressed, and realized that pushing the elite spec even further will probably result in increasingly unimpressive specs as we go along. I'm completely fine with not seeing more elite specs for a long time (potentially, forever).

I can understand that perspective. We would likely hit a point where we are getting different flavors of the same thing eventually. Whatever we do end up getting I hope it helps mix things up and build intrigue.

my excitement levels for the immediate future of GW2 are very low. I'm not going to pass judgment on something nobody has seen yet, but at present it appears we have very little reason to actually be excited for it.

I think that's a reasonable stance. We can't really judge something no one outside of Arenanet has info on. At the same time we don't exactly have a lot of reasons to be very excited, unless they really wow people with the official announcement.

What are everyone's thoughts on how much content the mini-expansion might have, and at what price point, compared to previous expansions?  Will we get the same value as we had with the previous two expansions or less?

I certainly hope we get well polished maps and events because this last patch is showing me a lot of the holes that EoD has. The new Ops armor has us going around doing Fractals and some less popular events around the EoD maps which is fine but a good chunk of them are just broken.

Have these quests been this messed up since EoD launched? Why are we being asked to do broken quests then? Why aren't these being fixed and does this mean we should expect more broken quests for the next expansion because Arenanet will be too busy preparing xpac 5 then. The cycle just repeats itself then.

I guess I can't be too harsh as we literally have nothing to go off of other than some artwork and a disembodied evil laugh.

  15. Are people really okay with not having elite specializations though?

I would certainly hope something engaging and exciting is going to take the place of elite specs but I really can't come up with anything that would fill that gap.

I understand that having new specializations for each and every expansion and having to balance those, plus the previous ones makes the game and its balance very unwieldy but what is going to work to hype up the next expansion? New weapon sets for all the existing specs? As people have said that sounds like more work than just making a new spec.

A new weapon class altogether? How do we determine what spec gets access to the new weapon? Masteries playing a larger role in combat besides a hotkey? Maybe.

I've been following and playing Guild Wars since Factions but I am having a hard time feeling excited over whatever is coming next. Granted we don't have anything besides some concept art and an evil disembodied voice laughing so it's not exactly fair to judge xpac 4 on that alone.

  16. Armor set and quest/collection to get it is great.

It is on the expensive side but having or not having the armor set does not improve or worsen one's game experience.

The collection having bugged events though is an issue. You may be blocked from completing a collection all because dynamic event #2 of 3 is stuck in an endless loop and the only work around is to try and find another map instance where it is not broken.

These sort of collections are great for engaging players in less popular event chains and for world building as we are acting as a Special Ops team member helping to resolve Canthan problems.

This however is not a good thing when the events have not been properly checked to make sure they aren't broken. It just draws attention to the fact that too much of EoD content has been left in a poor state because the devs are stretched too thin and need to work on the next big thing endlessly.

Some people talk about bad drop rate, did they nerfed it at some point?

Because we did the meta a bit with some guildes and everyone got like 1-2 box per meta, on average. It was quite a good drop rate, actually.

I did the Gyala meta twice and pretty much only opened the ancient boxes that you get at the end of the metas only. I was able to get 3 luxon weapons. Now is that better or worse than before I couldn't really say as my experience will most likely differ from another.

I'd say the bigger issue here is that a handful of the events that Arenanet wants players to do for this are completely bugged.

I think in theory this practice of having players go around the world doing less popular events is great for using and reusing older content and breathing life back into the maps.

This is not a good thing when Arenanet hasn't bothered to make sure that these events are working correctly. You could be blocked from doing a collection because the appropriate enemy refuses to spawn or dynamic event #2 is stuck in an endless loop until you can find a new map instance.

  18. As much as it would make sense to move it, I don't see resources being alocated to moving it to have it make more sense aesthetically.

I agree that it could be made as a selling point to grant f2p players access to some of EoD but the event would need to have races remade, firecracker events redone and Celestial Challenge would have to be done which I imagine would take the most time and that is already a buggy mess to begin with. Perhaps if the dev team wants to fix the bugs they could consider changing the location as well?

How much time and effort or how many devs would be needed to do that I couldn't say. It would be nice to try it for one year perhaps and see if it helps draw sales for EoD.

"Hey this area is really cool and that event was a lot of fun. I think I might buy that expansion."

  19. @Lightseeker.7839

I see, that is a possible work around and it doesn't stop AFKing completely, but doesn't completely reward it either. I agree that the worse case scenario would be that an actual player ends up trapped in a room that is literally all AFKers which is not ideal.

I believe you are right that at the very least adding an inactivity timer or some means of detecting that a player has not moved from their x,y,z position in a certain amount of time, then they are likely not playing.

It is a bit strange that other festivals reward player cooperation and this is the only festival to only reward a specific winner. I mean, everyone gets loot, but they have to sweat to get the most loot. Its especially frustrating that as a support giving out boons for example, you're actually helping someone do better than you.

It would be like if your mount boosts in races affected other players instead of you. The game is historically altruistic but also rewarding for altruism so this is kind of out of place overall.

I agree completely. When you said that it got me thinking how it is actually detrimental to do something like say, revive a downed player. This event is the only instance where I feel "Oh no, another player. Great, now we have to fight over rewards."

I have an idea on how to fix this. They can make it so there will be 6 fixed rounds of randomized challenges. Each time the challenge bar is completely filled, every contributors will get two points. Otherwise it will be just one for the contributors.  If they still need to have top contributor thingy, they can give the top contributor some extra Little Lucky Envelopes instead.

I like the sound of nw adjustments to improve  the event. Sorry if I am not understanding correctly, but how does prevent AFK farming the event if it is something like Ox Challenge?

An AFKer could get "credit" if they are able to tag any of the mobs by being in the aggro area no?

  21. Besides being buggy and unclear how a "winner" is decided for a challenge, the fact that there is a "winner" at all is not what this game is about at all.

Yes it is in place to prevent players from simply AFK farming it as that is already an issue with LW episodes from older seasons, but are we honestly punishing players because the Chicken Ring they happened to be standing in turned red again for 1 second longer that another person even though you were standing where you were supposed to the entire time.

What happened to respecting the time and effort a player puts in? There is nothing else in this game that does this besides simply failing a raid or Strike over and over again as those are decided by a win/fail state alone.

It's absurd that there are still so many bugs throughout the entire thing.

    - Rabbit Challenge not activiating the gate when running through it.

    - Snake Orbs not being picked up at all even when passed through.

    - Sticky surfaces during Dragon.

    - Horse tornadoes ignoring I-frames and dodges.

The list goes on so I think you get my point. Players even see that there isn't much to the event besides "It gives you gold."

Yes that's great, but at the cost of rewarding some players more or for glitching out less plus buggy game design? Is that what we want? Shouldn't we expect better than "It gives you gold."?

Yeah.. some wings really feel like emboldened with pmechs. We atleast have 3-4 pmechs in our FC now. I mean.. when pmechs are top dps even on bosses like Matthias or Largos (where condi should be prioritized) you know something is wrong.

    Thanks very much for sharing.

Yeah I was and still am very confused as to why condi mech is getting a pretty harsh nerf. I don't recall condi mech being too much in any particular gamemode so what gives? The heal mech nerf I understand and yes technically pmech is getting a buff so yeah engineer is a little strange all around.

I suppose the pmech buff isn't necessarily intentional as Anrenanet has said they are trying to buff other specs by buffing the core which means mech gets it too.
