I agree it is doable. I just don't think something like that should be part of the collection. I just don't see how having to spend a large time trying to catch THIS ONE particular fish, being entirely dependent on rng, is any fun.

To be honest the main problem with the Amber Trout is that you can get it only during the Tyria daytime, if you try to fish for it during the Tyria nights it's impossible.

I guess you do have a problem then because according to SC you can roll face and keep up with weaver or put in a little effort and exceed it by a significant margin.

His reply was a blatant ask for nerf, people always use others data/video to state something and ask for nerfs, the problem with most of the tests is that the situation is perfect with a full group of people that don't do mistakes and don't have to move.

If he is doing more damage with auto on mechanist than him doing his max on Ele maybe it's skill level, but that's why less hard to master builds are a good thing for the game.

    I love mechanist.

As an ele refugee, I now have a great time laughing at weavers who are furiously trying to click all 25 buttons in their rotation just to do the same DPS as me autoattacking the boss.

Looks like it's a player problem here, MY Sword/Dagger weaver does more damage than MY Bomb kit Mechanist, this considering equal equipment and situation, so it's not the professions balance here but the player.

I did play mechanist alot, all the teleport did was let me make blatant mistakes without consequence as with all stun break teleports.

Mechanist is not the only one with a stun break teleport, the mechanist one also doesn't do damage to enemies, if you think that you have to play a character that has less tools than every other profession in the same game, don't use those stun breaks.

By the way You can slot it and not use it, hardcore mode engaged.

Out of curiosity, why does a rather tank oriented spec need a 1200 range stun breaking teleport? the shift signet is rather flawed in this regard before you even consider all the other things it has.

Because if you had played Mechanist against other player, you would know that the Spec by it self has a LOT less Evade block invulnerability frames than other Specs/Professions, and it's needed to have at least a chance against a good player, without it you just have a healing skill and the 2 shield blocks.

I wouldnt run your build for several reasons :

-the alac requires your pet to be near you and your allies. For PVE you dont really care because you stack around the boss but for PvP and especially WvW this is extremely clunky to use and unreliable.

-your damage is very low, almost non existant to be honest. The mech deals no damage because it inherits healing and concentration, you as a player dont deal much damage with only rifle. Also the mech doesnt get your boons since you're not running the teleportation sigil. You have no pressure, you're just an annoying pest that runs around the fight but doesnt do much to win them

-celestial is kind of wasted because you dont make use of conditions stats

I would love to propose a good mechanist build however as of right now, I cant think of a single one that would work well without having too many drawback. Mechanist is just that bad for WvW.

I'm testing different builds from the one posted by the OP, and using mainly Pistol/Shield, Flamethrower in some fights to avoid reflects and have some AOE, the main problem with Mechanist is that it has few active defence options, if you go for damage after you have used those two shield skill you are pretty much naked, and I'm starting to think that Elixir S is a must have for hard fights.

The Barrier can be useful, I can give/get Alacrity and Barrier when near or using siege weapons or when helping near dead allies as the barrier protect and shorten the Healing skills CD.

When roaming you can win attrition fights like when you find yourself against those builds running around based on outlasting tactic, Deadeye, Mesmer, Necros, Druids and the like when they recover you recover more because the pistol conditions wear them out, but it take a LOT of time.

Against glass cannon builds if you can slow them down, like with shield skills, you may be able to let them eat the bot F1 and pistol skills and get the upper hand, if not hope they target your BIG bot bait and keep going.

Enemies hate the bot with a passion, use it as bait, they think it's the bot killing them but it's not.

I'm still convinced that other Engie Specs might be better in WVW, PVP, even core engie, especially for hard matches where you need that special card you can pull off for the win.

But everything said, the support from the boon providing bot bait is undeniable, did you ever die for a couple of seconds of cooldown on your healing skill or shield reflect or Elixir S?

That's what the bot does, it eat those seconds for you and potentially other people around you, the alacrity is the selling point of the Spec at least for me.

Does it do any damage though? Im finding it hard to make the mech do lots of damage in wvw since they can just run away or dodge its ranged attacks

During the last week I'm giving Mechanist a serious go in WVW, using celestial as I run with it everywhere on engie but usually with other especs, the mechanist is decently tanky but doesn't do much damage, if you swap a couple of trait it can offer some small group support and that's what I like about it.

In hard fights I still find Holo and Scrapper better, both have more Damage, more reflects, evades, blocks and in combat mobility.

The Toolbelt beats the Mech, but I find it amusing when people target the Bot and not me as often it can't hit people properly, most of the time it's just wondering about around me in passive mode, but as a boon providing bait it's amazing.

It's honestly a very touching story - however, it's still is what it is, a result of overloading far too many things both offensive and defensive into one specc. That said, there should be room in there for building the mech as a support/tank and you could always have a condispecc and do good damage yourself with pistols and thrower. So i dont think she will ever lose the ability to hide behind that mech or throw some dmg.

Thinking about it further i think the sensible future for mech is honestly if it isnt a top tier dps specc, but retains a lot of the tankyness and support, it just got way too much defensive powers for it to be fair for others if it has top level dps.

Another way i suppose is if they specialize even more with the trait choices - which means you lose a access to more dps if you go support, and you lose access to most of the support if you go max dps, etc. Such that okay you can do each role fine but need a gear set and a specc change for each and you don't get a ton of crossover generic op powers in each.

In fact if they do it like this, there isn't a thing mech couldnt do well then, it just cant be a super faceroller dps + a super tank + megadefensive char at the same time.

The signets have to be looked at, as someone said in mesmer forums just the shift signet alone you have to take 2-3 mesmer ability and a traitline to get the same effect. The signets are the difinition of BLOATED. It blows my mind how broken they all are. Theres no reason for shift signet to give movement speed or condi cleanse, that just superbloat. You could even remove the stun break from it too and it would be a top tier ability still, easily.

So would you trade ALL of your shatters for our 5 signets?

But can we get rid of the AI and have a trait line for mechanist that turns it into a really powerful multipurpose, permanent, yet movable turret? I honestly love mechanist but the whole reliance on an AI doesn’t sit well with me. It would also give us access to the turret related traits, which would be pretty sweet.

What are people ideas on how to possibly improve on mechanist?

Like others have already said there are Holosmith and Scrapper, both are stronger than the mechanist in PVP and WVW, I'm one of those peoples who wanted some mobile pet option on the Engineer since the release, got it with the Mechanist and had to wait almost 10 years for it.

How does it do this with less effort? Sure pressing the mech skills for alacrity and the like is easy... for just alacrity. The heal engi core is no easy matter. There's lots of invisible cooldowns to manage, namely Super Elixir, that do not line up with anything. Other skill need to be juggled. Med kit 5 for vigor, regen, and swiftness; egun 4 and 5 for might generation, healing, and condi cleanse; mortar kit 5 for more healing and might generation; you have to juggle shields skill and determine whether to use them for prot or use them for a CC bar that may or may not come up. There also many different situational things too. Mortar kit 2 and 3 for chills and blinds; egun 2 and 3 for cripple/swiftness and condi cleanse respectively; and a whole two free utility slots for literally all of core engi's kit. Heal mech is good at what it does because heal engi has always been really good. People are just now seeing how good it is.

They can't understand it, they just saw the video with big numbers and discovered the engineer class with the EoD release, they think they know the class but it's not like that.

By the way I played mechanist mostly during my first completion of the EoD personal story, after that I played mostly my other alts, I think that there are stronger Especs, probably the people asking for nerfs don't know about it or are currently playing those and are worried to lose their seat...

I think at least the support flavor of the mech is going to get nerfed hard. It outcompetes other classes at its job with much less effort.

I think people who like the class should emotionally prepare themselves for what is coming. I doubt A-Net needed threads like this to tell them that the Mech may need another look soon.

And the Mukluk vid is a really good illustration of what is  wrong. I don't think any other class, under the same circumstances, can maintain that much damage with just as little input.

That said, there is WIDE middle ground between over-performing and useless. Bopping top endgame DPS to be solidly middle of the pack, and modifying support to be good at fewer things at once is a good start.

There are other professions/Especs that can do that kind of Damage and even more against a Golem by just pressing 1, If you don't know the potential of all professions how can you be ojective when asking to tone down an Espec that does Decent Damage.

It is really sad to see threads like this. Do people not think of the impact of calling for constant nerfs? I am not sure if the person who made the current en vogue build had the LI aspect in mind or not, but it is a very good LI build which benefits us in the Disabled Guild Wars 2 Community and allows us to play on the same level (in terms of bringing damage etc) as those who are able to pull the 30-40k on an average build.

With my muscle atrophy and fine motor issues, I have been for years unable to break 9k damage. No one would take me into Fractals, Raids or Strikes (Beyond the initial few fractals and some of the easier strikes). This sucked. A lot. Then LI builds started showing up and I found some builds for the classes I like and BAM I can fianlly do more than 20k damage with regularity. I don't see how that harms your game play.

If you feel its easy mode and dumbs down content or whatever the case, then simply.....dont use that build or play that class? In an open world setting it doesn't lessen YOUR experience. Like no one is forcing you to play the new mech build. No one is barring your entry from content for not playing it. So whats the deal? I hope sincerely that people can open their eyes to the fact that there is a portion of this community that do have disabilities and its awful for us to get some steps towards accessibility and you have people who are unhappy with a certain build or play style clamour imediately for those things to get nerfed to hell and back and then we are back at the begining.

We may not be 90% of the player base, but we do matter. Our experience is valid and people ought to consider these things. The crux of the initial portion of this thread is hella ableist. Lets work on that please

I can't understand how someone could react with "confused" to your post, it's clear and explain clearly your situation.

This is an Online Game and the community is composed by a lot of different players, and should welcome everyone, if you are to immature to not understand this wake up there are a lot of people on this world not only you.

Anet nerfing gun is loaded and ready for this to get stopped.

Reminder of the low skilled e-specs getting gutted in the xpac patch just for the sake of: but you have new toys, play them! (even tho most of them are inferior from their precessors).

Maybe I'm wrong and they let mechanist enjoyers happy with their spec untouched but I've seen plenny of complaints for their overtuned performance in every scenario. I've seen Anet killing specs for less...

It's because there is a small really loud group of people that screams asking for nerfs, that I replied in threads like this to help the developers team understand that there is some good in the new elite specs not only Mechanist.

Having the choice to play hardcore or comfy mode should be allowed it's a game, we work to pay the bills etc...

If you want the challenge you can use a more technical hard to master build that crank big numbers and do whatever you want, it's what I usually do, but sometimes I just want to play more laid back.

This is an online game with a good community that should welcome anyone with different skill levels.

I have come to believe that the above statement encapsulates the real issue driving all the nerf calls. With the launch of EoD, and by no small coincidence the implementation of a bunch of sustain nerfs, we have a new elite spec that allows even the most casual of players to complete - and even solo - content that was once the province of the "most skilled" and/or those using builds that require a lot of effort for such Herculean feats.

All the achievements, accolades, and rewards ... Diminished because now any pleb with a strong AI-assisted espec can supposedly do the same. So yeah, the calls for "nerf that kitten" aren't going away.

Thing is, even Mechanist, or condi Ren, nor any other spec, is going to allow even a small % of players to accomplish what a player like Lord Hizen does. Or for that matter, what AliamRationem (whom has been spending some vocal time here on the engi subforum of late) can do with his fire Weaver; seriously, some of his videos are every bit as nuts as Hizen's.

Maybe I'm just being overly cynical, but currently it's hard for me to see this in any other light.

When I played PVP, I probably was one of those who found some strong Built after a big balance patch, not only on the Engineer, and smartly I didn't put a video online with BIG NUMBERS on the caption telling others "look at me my build STRONK! I can play it by licking the mouse", so I enjoyed my tactical advantage until someone craving for attention told it around and then eventually got it nerfed.

The nerf callers can avoid being killed by the golem, just target the engie and keep moving is it that hard?

Everyone plays at different skill levels, if you are a good player you always do make a difference.

I can't understand why there is so much nerf calls for the mechanist, I'm more then happy when I can complete a big group event without having to ress downed people 50% of the time.

Like Infusion wrote underwater the Mech doesn't exist you have to swap to holosmith, scrapper or core.

The problem is that under represented professions, not only engineer, get played more after a huge balance patch or expansion, then people start popping telling that "I don't Main this profession but I want it to be nerfed to the ground because I discovered watching a video that it can do THIS against the TEST GOLEM"

The problem is that the ones calling for the nerf to the golem don't understand that to counterbalance it the engineer has to be buffed in damage or sustain or utility for loosing the golem, and it will be even harder for them to fight against the engineer because the mechanist will be less reliant on AI to do what it is supposed to do.

  14. Engineer was always under represented since the launch, and I'm pretty sure that 90% of the time people who stopped using their own Engineer it was because you had to put too much effort to achieve the same as the other professions (Spamming Grenades 1 is just a burden not Skill).

I contributed in the update of the wiki during the first years of GW2 especially on the Engie side because it was the least played.

I have played all professions in PVE PVP and WVW, mechanist is comfortable in PVE and realistically doesn't Top the charts, but there is a lot of hate and Nerf pleas because, the Mechanist player doesn't have to press over 9000 keys per minute, shame on them!

At the end of the Day Engie is my main, but my first Engie made after leveling the Elementalist to 80 at GW2 launch, so before the elite Specs, he was deleted after 1000 hours of playtime, because after trying the other professions I asked myself what was the point in all the effort the Engie required to do the same as others, even Elementalist required less effort.

After trying the other professions I made a new Engie because I like the theme, he is at about 1100 hours so in total more than 2000 hours for me on Engie since the GW2 Launch, and mechanist is the saving boon the class needed when you want to relax after work doing Metas or taking a Camp alone in WVW without having to use an Alt, if an enemy comes by in WVW you better swap your build to Holo or Scrapper fast or you are probably going to lay on the floor dead quickly...

  15. Really... we need Rocket powered throwing daggers that's cool B) .If you want a more quiet version for a sneaky combat style we can throw the daggers with electromagnetic acceleration or directly throwing it through mini portals/ gates directly on the enemy body. For the various skills obviously we can attach whatever we want on the projectiles. You can use the concept to throwing anything... but throwing daggers is cool on engie and I liked the throwing spears of the paragons, or the axe throw of rangers or hammer throwing of the revenants...So why not.
