  1. Since I see so many players asking for more content like this, I have a pretty big concern. As much as Anet is being inclusive, I'm aro/ace and so are my GW2 characters. I didn't want to play this update until I heard there was a platonic option because I don't want to be forced into romance and flirting. I get enough of the "you aren't human if you don't want romance and sex" in real life and I sure don't need it in my pretendy fun time too. Can I ask for a platonic partner/friendship option if this is going to be a constant thing? And can that be pretty clearly pointed out which one it is?

  2. Totals so far:

Istan: Took an hour and a half to get 250 by doing hearts on alts.Sandswept: 2 1/2 days to get 250, drops were absolutely awful.Jahai: At 120 currently after 1 day of farming/hearts. Seems to depend entirely on finding a map with people doing events.Kourna: Haven't startedDragonfall: At 170 from casually doing events since episode drop.Thunderhead: At 70 from a day of farming hearts and nodes.

  3. Can we not make it mandatory though? I had a great time playing hide and seek. Catch? Not so much since I had to beg someone to do it for me since my disabled tail lacks the reflexes to move fast.

But I'd love to play hide and seek or games that required my brain. Just.. not mandatory.

Had to add this bit. 25 per character, per heart, per day for Domain of Istan. this is not so bad. Why is the rest limited to 5 per?! What were you thinking, ANet?! My mind is so numb for all this ridiculousness. Whoever came up with all this damned ideas needs to be seriously fired, without severance or any other benefit.

I used to get people to play this game. I used to convince my friends to buy the game and play it. I have been playing GW since the first game, read every novel. But now I am just speechless. I am telling my friends to stay away. ANet is really destroying a game that was really good when it began. But looks like ANet lost its way.

Sadly, I agree on the currency. Istan was easy enough and reasonable. Even if I didn't have alts, it wouldn't be too long until I would have the needed currency just from hearts and the meta. The other maps can be mind numbing to farm and yield so little for the effort. I was still willing to do it with all my alts but....

Now imagine how I feel, having gone through all this grinding and timegating to hit a "no you don't get your Skyscale" because of a stupid catch game. This was poorly implemented in every way.

Don't you dare tell me I am the only one that gets a free ride on this one. I refuse to believe it.

You're not. I had more than enough of each currency as well, because I'm not the kind of person to spend everything I've got. I save up 1 or 2 stacks of most materials just in case I need them for future content. I also craft timegated items on a daily basis for the same reason, so I'm using my 2 stacks of charged quartz crystals now to earn some easy money by selling grow lamps and skyscale treats.

I don't understand where this "I need to be told beforehand what to do" thing comes from, though. Just like any other collection in the game we find out what we need to do once it's released/unlocked. I don't believe it's ever been a thing where game companies release specifics of content before it's released. A general idea, maybe, but detailed information on all the things we need to do and spend? Nope. If anything, they would've told us that it's a series of collections, give a few general examples of the things we need to do, but that's it. We are not owed content information before content is released. It's a courtesy.

    Let me explain.

Some of us don't consider GW2 a job and we don't have the time to endlessly grind away at things. Some of us, like myself, have disabilities where certain types of content just isn't possible to complete. Others don't want to do that content. It's nice to know before wading into any sort of epic quest type thing exactly what's going to be required, you know, so people can judge if it's #1 worth the time, #2 something they can do, and #3 if they can access everything they need to complete it.

We knew everything that had to be done for Warclaw and Griffon. People made the choice of if it was worth it. Skyscale? It was purposely hidden from us. I honestly see no issue with putting all the steps of a very grindy, very timegated quest out there so players can go "Oh I can't do that so I won't start it" or "Oh, I can plan for that then". Would have been nice to know about the currency on Day One. Would have been nice to know about the quartz on Day One. Would have been nice to know just how big and timegated this was in Day One.

FFS, I can look up exactly what I need to do to make any Legendary in the entire game, why should this be different? I'm real sure if people were not constantly surprised by timegates inside of timegates and materials that have to be grinded out, half the complaints would have died off because it would have been in the open - not some sadistic secret.

@"Klipso.8653" said:I dont understand how anyone doesn't already have almost 1k of each of these saved up

I explained earlier how: first you spend them on everything there is to acquire on the map (armor sets, weapons skins, recipes, minis, tonics), then you go, "Finally! I am done here for good," and start consuming the currency from thereon. See? Easily
    not
    saved up. ;)

    This.

I started consuming all mine a few months ago because the things I didn't have required magic, NOT currency, and since the Istan nerf there are only a few LWS4 maps I actually still visit.

This is just stupid at this point, this isn't a Legendary.

  7. Wow, Anet. What a nice F.U. considering how hard it can be to get that currency. I've never had a stack of anything but the Istan one and only because of the farm (that got nerfed and with it, my source).

This isn't fun but I guess at least these parts can be soloed...

Therein lies the biggest problem I personally have had with this entire situation... we're weren't
looking forward to the last day
like we should have been - we were
hoping there wouldn't be another day.
Because information was deliberately withheld in fear of backlash, the backlash ultimately swung back thrice as hard.

This. This statement should be upheld as the very essence of this entire thread.

As many of the skyscale collection detractors have already said, we
    don't
want the mount instantly, or for absolutely no effort. However, that doesn't excuse the current acquisition process, which is repetitive, uninteresting, not commensurate with the (un)usefulness of the mount itself, and a completely unannounced departure from all seven previous mount acquisition quests.

I'm glad some of you seem to get something out of the meaningless delay, but I find it very hard to believe that
    any
of this process really prioritized the quality of the player experience. I'd be fine with it
    not
being player-centric if it at least remained consistent with the rest of the game, or important aspects of the episode. I find that it fails to be either of those things. I'm trying to keep an open mind about what we'll hear on the 24th about all this, but somehow I don't think the discussion will be very frank.

Exactly this.Like I said, if I want to make a Legendary - I can look up exactly what's involved and I can decide before taking a single step or spending any time or gold if #1 it's worth it to me and #2 if I can actually do all that's needed to complete it.None of us got this option with Skyscale. It's like sorting an impossibly tall stack of papers and then someone pops up the next day saying "Oh that was just the first one" and points to a second stack of papers taller than the first. Then you finish that one and oh look, a third. It would have been nice to know this going in. People could have planned and decided if it was worth it. What's the point of hiding what this mount entails?

  9. @"Gambino.2109" said:Question guys, if Anet was to rework this to eliminate these terrible time gates.. after the first wave of players went through it..

Would you (being one of those first wavers) be upset knowing that you went through with this and suddenly everyone else doesn't have to?

Or would you be happy no one else has to go through this discouraging nonsense, like your friends/family guildies or anyone that comes along and questions how difficult it is because they wanted to give it a try.

I did world completion when it required WvW maps.

I was in the group that got the game's second Tequatl kill when the fight was reworked.

I did world completion before gliding.

I did world completion before mounts.

I had almost every dye when dyes were per character, not account bound.

I did Arah story before it was reworked to be soloable.

No. No I wouldn't be upset Anet reworked something to be less of a pain in the tail and more viable. I'm not a hardcore "git gud" sadist who insists everyone have the same miserable/grindy/etc experience that I did.

At this point, this mount needs to do my housework, heal my disabilities, and whisper ASMR into my ear at night to be worth this much kitten. I have 2-3 days before I reach the newest collection and I have to hope people will still be porting, I cannot do most JPs.

Did you not read that the food can be used to SKIP the jps?

    Finally did see that, yes.

Which means a big ole gold sink that no one needs. Sure, I can do it this time.. but what next?

This is a soul sink :|

Day 5 will set players up with crafting their Saddle for the Skyscale and other. I'm not at liberty to say much more than that due to forum rules.

I find the censoring of what this collection entails frustrating too.

Anet, if people knew exactly what to expect - they could judge if it was worth starting and if they could finish it. I can look up all the steps for any given Legendary, it's not a big mystery, and then I can decide if that's within my abilities and time as a player. Imagine if people knew from Day One that charged crystals were involved or what metas and events were going to be important or that they'd need to farm up resources.

  12. You mean that backpiece that took me six months because I started it way later than everyone else and on my Day One, map chat was full of "RIP THIS MAP TOMORROW!" and "Never coming back when I get mine!"?

Yeah I remember. I remember the LFGs. I remember asking for people to help me. I remember no one wanting to or not being able to get enough people. I remember doing the meta and everyone fighting the boss I didn't need the item from every time. Six months and I completed it randomly by stumbling onto a map where a group was killing the boss I needed.

    Not fun, should be soloable.

  13. Protect the Priory explorer while he studies the academy's murals not completing can block the correct event for the fear egg from beginning, everyone was more than aware that wasn't the event needed but because the NPC was stalled - the other event wasn't starting on that map and people had waited for more than an hour.

Not a SINGLE group in LFG, everyone I know is past what I'm doing AND several group events are broken.

What now? This is exactly what my concern was.

What exactly is broken? Personally heard of no issues aside from people who had a problem getting something to freeze them in ice.

As for people being beyond what you are doing, I suggest getting help from a guild. At most you need 3 ~ 4 people, except for the Djinns and the single META that is required -- however you can complete the Djinn section without fighting the champions, it should be relatively easier avoiding those.

Vabbi has had issues all day.

This is not soloable. If it was, I'd forgive the timegate 100%. Timegates suck but if you can do it on your own time at your own pace, fine. I don't need the mount on day one.

This also involves a meta that people don't like to do so, like I was afraid would end up being the case, this is a timegated "better do it in the first month" quest that has steps that require large groups of people. Large groups who will not be around to help once they get their skyscale.

Look, I'm not against epic collection quests like this but I know the fickle nature of this player base and know "get your guild to help!" isn't always going to work. Stop making content that takes an army to get something.

  15. @"bOTEB.1573" said:I see all of you are acting like the real problem is the time gate. When in fact the real problem is that you are upset of not getting the "toy" as fast as you want because you want it sooooo bad. There are time gates all over Tyria, let's remove all of them? After all you all said that time gating is bad design. If ANET remove this time gate, I want the WvW time gate to be removed too, the PvP too, the HoT meta events rewards too, the eaters too, the crafting too and anything else. After all, it is what you want, righ? Remove the time gate, coz it is a bad design, right guys?

Did you even read what I wrote?

Timegate? Annoying but that's all it is. Managable so long as the entire quest can be soloed at one's own pace.

The problem? Collections that cannot be soloed in a game where the playerbase moves on quickly and can make some collections near impossible to complete - IE once the people really excited for this mount who started at Day One are done with the entire collection chain then good luck getting the non-soloable parts done if you lagged behind or started late. We've seen this with Wayfarer's Henge and Griffon already.

The bad design? Relying on the completion of any content that takes a large group or an entire map to fetch a single item, especially if it's multiple events or a meta.

Removing the timegate won't fix that.

  16. I have a single concern, one I'm sure has already been stated but maybe it needs stating again:

Can the entire Skyscale quest be soloed?

If it can be, then timegates are just a minor annoyance. The same happens with first gen legendary crafting and ascended crafting - lots of grinding, lots of waiting but everyone can eventually get there at their own pace because the steps are always available to be done when one reaches that point. Annoying, tedious, and frustrating? Yeah, it is and I'm not even sure the mount is worth it but that's all it is.

If it can't be, then Anet has made a grave error. Six and a half years has taught me that if a collection requires a meta or an event, you kitten well better do it in the very first week or forget it. The Druid Stone took me six months because I didn't start it when it was new and it took absolutely forever to find enough people interested in doing all the events I needed over the timegated days. I did Griffon a month after everyone else and had some difficulty, I see people begging for groups to do those events now. It's not a good model for any sort of long term quest.

I'm real sure though it's the latter based on the 30 events needed just to unlock the map merchants. In that case... yeah I'd rather have the gold sink and no timegate than worrying if I can grab enough people in a month or two or four to help me out with getting some dropped item from a 30-50 person meta. "Realism" is fine but that's not how this player base works. The early birds will all get their skyscales and anyone who started later is SOL.
