"Everything that is a material should be able to be deposited"

Wouldn't work, for example Apples they are purchased with karma. Traditionally anything you purchase with karma (e.g. heart vendor items) is not directly sellable to both vendor and trading post because Anet tries to be careful letting you convert karma to gold.

Baubles and Baubles Baubles = have to be in your inventory to work inside SAB due to technical limitations - they can't be detected from the bank or material storage. So they probably don't want to allow them to be deposited to prevent confusion. They can't be a currency AND also be ammo for things like the slingshot and bombs inside SAB and the reason is likely that it'll make the purse upgrade pointless if you can just deposit whenever your wallet may get full.

Whenever they add something to material storage - which is a fully manual process every time - it becomes impossible to remove in the future, so they are very cautious when it comes to adding something. They only add it if their metrics on how players obtain and use that item indicate that it could benefit from a material storage slot.

For example, some intermediate crafting materials, like Scribe's pens, don't go into material storage because their only purpose is to be immediately crafted into the next item. No rational player obtains a bunch of pens and then stops; they craft pens with the explicit goal of immediately making something else. These types of items don't often go into material storage for that reason.

Crafting materials most benefit from a material storage slot when you obtain them out in the wild and don't necessarily plan to craft them into anything right away or ever. Like, items you obtain while doing meta events benefit from you being able to press the Deposit button to clear some of your inventory.

Shing Jea Orchid Petals etc are account bound items you obtain in small quantities while already in a city, so you can just go throw them in the bank real quick if you're not going to craft with them yet.

Obviously, with ArenaNet, there are exceptions to literally everything. But crafting material storage follows general patterns as to what they put in and what they don't, and I think Shing Jea Orchid Petals in particular fit with the pattern.

Here (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Additions-to-Material-Storageyou can find a big thread about the last time there was a major update to Material Storage. You can see that there was a lot of time dedicated to understanding the limitations of the Material Storage system, indicating that the original people in charge of it were long gone at this point. Linsey Murdock herself left ArenaNet last year, so if anyone were to work on Material Storage in a significant way, they would probably need to rediscover a lot of the existing limitations again.

    TLDR## the relevant quote:

"Reminder: Once an item has been added to Material Storage, it can never be removed or moved to a different category. However, I did get a small piece of tech to allow me to re-organize within each bucket and I’ll be doing some re-ordering work as part of this update."

As far as I remember in earlier days it used the lowest sell price to calculate the value and was later changed to also consider the buy price etc. to avoid easy manipulation

Edit: found a post from the dev regarding the change of the calculation

    .

    2018-07-12

Account | Value: Update the item value calculation to handle price manipulations better
The item value calculation now ignores the sell price of an item if it is likely to be inflated (low supply, sell price is a lot higher than buy price, buy price is fairly low and the difference between the prices is substantial). This currently impacts around 1300 items and will not make a difference for 99% of users. The change was required because a player gamed the system to get to the top of the leaderboard. They created about 270 of a craftable item, which had no supply on the tradingpost. They then proceeded to list that item for 10,000 gold, making gw2efficiency believe the value of this item to be 10,000 gold. In effect, this inflated the value of their account by about 2,700,000 gold.

...which annoys the heck out of others when they have the visual clutter of a target icon on the Comm instead of on an enemy player. :classic_rolleyes:

Only the players who cast it on a player see it, rest of the poll doesn't.

"Personal target- puts an orange reticle marker above the currently targeted character or object, visible only to the player who used it. The marker remains if another target is selected, and pressing "Take Personal Target" keybind re-targets the originally marked foe"

You are confusing it with "Call target"

I think the biggest problem is the inconsistency in the intention. It's clearly a sink, but when people use it to sink unwanted items they have too much of...oh no, that's not what you're supposed to be sinking, we apparently want you to be sinking stuff that's actually valuable!

    Seriously.

Just let it be a sink, and the market will sort itself out. People are using it to sink tier 1 materials? Congratulations, you've made tier 1 materials actually worth something! Don't worry, if they start being worth too much, people will find something else to research salvage and it will self-correct!

It's not actually a bad system in and of itself, but the strength of it is that it'll self-correct if it's just allowed to function. Bringing in a ton of exceptions or adjusting drop tables specifically because the system exists just compromises the whole approach.

The problem is that many food can be crafted and bought from npc. Thus its the npc who mainly set the price, good example is the Farmer Diah heart in queensdale with loaf of bread, it was previously the cheapest way to get Research notes. Cost 35 karma or 16 copper from other npcs, so no way to increase the price. Then they changed so you can't research it

    Hey

I've spent enormous amount of time to find torch that not cause light on surrounding area. If you ask google there isn't really much relevant links on that topic and lots of them are many years old.

I cannot confirm it but it seem like there is spellfire torch. I found that one like 2-3 months ago and since than im checking gem store if i ever see it to give it shot.

Someone also told me that dragon bash has no light source but i can already see in preview thats not true.

Also there is lot of discussion about different colors and intensity. I thought maybe something dimmer could work. So far no luck and i tried a lot of them.

Does anyone know about something ? it can be ugly and expensive as long as it won't cast any light around.

    Thanks

This Page on the bottom has notable exceptions to light source ( These items have a particle effect that includes a light or glow that does not illuminate the surrounding area )

The skyscale can rise straight up a short distance, gain more height by wall jumping once that mastery is trained and can hover in one spot indefinitely but when it's moving it's like when you're gliding - it will gradually lose height and will eventually have to land and take off again.

The griffon moves faster, but it can't gain much height (no more than a jump) on take-off so it needs to start from a height to be really useful and it can't stop in the air - it's always moving forwards. You can slow down in the air, and it's possible to speed up and even gain some height by diving and swooping, but that needs a lot of open space. Also like the skyscale it will gradually lose height as it flies so it can't stay up forever. In the right conditions it's possible to go a long way (like all the way across Desert Highlands from Fortune's Vale to Prophet's Fall) but most flights will be a matter of going between perches.

Griffon can stay still in the air, and about moving from point A to B Griffon is better at keeping height.

Staying in same spot https://clips.twitch.tv/ToughVenomousSnakeRedCoat-uIMzpk1Ie9bqtBdc in the same day this clip was made she showed about keeping height during flight in Rata Sum.

    – Okay, first things first: the Chak Egg. Shooting one of these will make it explode and summon more chak to the field. However, if you are standing close to it when you shoot it you will gain health, reduce the overheating of your rifle, and refill your endurance bar. The 1 skill has a huge range and cone, but is also very touchy and prone to shooting multiple times even with the slightest left-click hold, so if you are going to take advantage of the free health/endurance you will need to practice great trigger discipline.
    – The main skill rotation is to gather the chak, use the 5 skill fire field, jump in with the 3 skill, then hold down the 2 flamethrower until you’ve killed the chak. Tap the 1 skill or left-click to do spot damage.
    – Since it takes some time for the chak to respawn on the ground level, the strategy should be to rotate between killing on the ground and bouncing up top fairly often. This also helps the rifle cooldown between large groups of chak.''

This. Hand of Abaddon is so well made. It's one of the most satisfying JPs out there. It's "difficult" without being unfair. Same goes for Mad King's Clocktower

    @aspirine.6852

Both chalice of tears (Ember bay)  and  Mad King's Clocktower and SAB was made by same person Joshua Foreman.  And Abaddon's Ascent jp is not hard, its not even in the list of top 16 hardest jps. He probably made 90% of the jumping puzzles in the game.

So I'll post the TL;DR here first, below I will explain why I am asking this question and why I feel a bit cheated.

    TL;DR

    Assumptions:

    1) GW2 has no vertical progression, rather horizontal, meaning you grind more for cosmetics, mounts, achievements, ,...

    2) GW2 has 99% of these unlockables (excluding achievements) in the gem shop

    3) The only way of progressing (horizontally) is by farming gold by any repetitive activity

    4) There is no real value behind grinding difficult achievements for mount skin unlocks / pet unlocks / ...

    Questions:

    - Is all of the horizontal progression summarized as, farm gold -> buy gems -> unlock skins in lootboxes

    - Is there a reason this is never talked about in any of the videos I could find on youtube talking about GW2's strengths and weaknesses, I feel like this was hidden as some sort of ugly truth...?

    Biggest misconceptions

    5:30 here about gw2

Why play gw2 in 2021, explaining the appeal and comparing to other games

Yea but its a good reason why those meta/bosses events have participation when marionette dont.

Thats now what OP meant, dont run way from that.

Edit- Marionette does also have unique loot. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Marionette_Chest

The chest can be looted multiple times per day. once per character.

People just don't know or care.

You get more gold from Marionette than Tequatl because of the Sprockets and it has a chance for Ascended weapon AND armor. Doing Tequatl and then not doing Marionette because of the "bad loot" seems absurd.

Please, if you think players would be interested in this event even if they knew about it after multiple weeks, you are delusional.

    The event:

    - does not offer decent rewards

    - has a high chance of failure

High chance of failure is also what makes it more intresting , not a 1 shoot like fire elemental is, so it doesnt need to be something negative it also can be a positive for some ppl. And rewards why then are they doing gerent if not for account bind mats/currency or exp?

Gerent gives 2g 39s for a 24min effort, so thats an relative gold per hour of 5g 99s.

While marionette gives 3g 75s for 11min effort, so thats relative gold per hour of 20g 15s.

Drakkar gives 2g 57s for 15min, thats  relative gold per hour of 10g 28s

Listen bud, I know how this works. I've heard every single talking point in the book regarding matchmaking over the years. I know what I'm talking about.

You dont know how it works. Also your solution that less players should play pvp just makes it worse

The matchmaking system is what is a shambles. Under no circumstances should a plat-3 be in the same game as a gold-1.

That is cus the pvp player base is too small, no matchmaking works good with low player base. Thats not the matchmaking systems fault

See. That is precisely why Glicko is a problem. It basically PUNISHES you for bad performance in initial ranked games, where it matters most, where the ratings deviation is highest. If you perform bad, get unlucky or bad teammates, then your rating plummets and you're pretty much STUCK there since the ratings deviation decreases with every game you play, and thus the system "knows" your "true" rating. It also punishes those who play more frequently.

    Some interesting data from 2019:

''Highest Finish: 18021.1% of the players who placed below gold (0-1199) finished the season in plat or higher. Highest Finish: 1680Lowest placement to hit plat: 686''

As you can read a lot of people are against it and it often results in a lot of hate reactions when you do this.

There is nothing wrong with AFK-farming if you follow a few basic rules
1: Only use features offered by the game itself. So use minions or engineer turrets.
2: Do not use any form of automation that is not part of the game (so no macro's. One key-press or mouseclick should always result in one action in the game).
3: Always be present at the keyboard.

If an admin pm's you (always recognisable by the gold text: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/f/f5/GM_gold_whisper.jpg ) You must show your presence by answering.
When a player PM's you, you are not obliged to reply, but it helps in preventing unwanted reports to the GM's

Unfortunally there are people who do not agree with the policy and find any form of AFK farming unacceptable. Some are civilised and discuss their opinion here (which is perfectly fine). Some might harash you ingame. That is wrong. If you feel ill-treated by other players, feel free to use the report option.

That isnt AFK farm that is idle farm.

    • AFK farming is not allowed, that is, you must be at your keyboard.
    • Inattentive/idle farming is allowed, for example, you can watch a movie while moving your character occasionally.

GW2 was on display shelves in stores for about 1 year before it totally disappeared. But I can't tell you how many times I've seen ESO (Elder Scrolls Online) advertised on store shelves and having re-release after re-release. Just from the top of my head.. Imperial Edition, Gold Edition, Unlimited Edition. Then there's all the collectors editions, and then several editions for every expansion that got released.

Not to say ESO has more players than GW2, I don't know the statistics. I certainly don't think it's a better game. In my opinion GW2 stands head and shoulder above that boring, drab game. Yet that game got so much crazy marketing, you just couldn't avoid it even if you tried..

But then game stores struggle to sell games nowadays since many buy online, here in Nordic where I live, all GameStops had to shut down Thier stores , https://www.dagenshandel.se/article/view/691606/gamestop_stanger_alla_nordiska_butiker
