  1. Eye colour on all the sylvari (female and  male ) face gained through the  total makeover kit is broken since the patch of 23rd of May 2023  . The visible Eye color is set to a very dark Violet/black, regardless of actual colour (which can still be ascertained in the makeover preview  ). Verified on 4 of my 6 sylvari, the two with the standard #1 face (upper left corner at creation ) retained their Eye Colouration, all with made over "exclusive" faces and eyes (regardless of skin colour or actual previous colour ) had their eyes changed to dark violet.

example  My druid Winterwise has the eye colour "Light Lime" and the upper  left picture from the second page of special (exclusive)  faces (I call it #7, but there is no normal signifier ).   The eyes ae dark violet atm, instead of a shining limey whitey. if I change faces at the makeover preview, the moment I click on a Standard face, the "light lime " colour reappears, the second I switch back to the face/head I use it turns shade of violet again...

Since Anet has fiddled around with the environmental slider (check  their patch notes ) I suspect this is an an unintended (if extremely annoying) effect of their environment slider "correction".... After all we spend resources or even real money to get the makeover keys to get these character setups.....

Now let's see how long it takes them to correct this. I mean they never fixed use of cursor keys in their forums after more than 10 years
    Stopwatch /GO

PS further Data :  Eye colour loss on "normal" faces also occurs after zone change (tested on Verdant Brink to Bitterfrost.  Standard face, standard colour ; exclusive haircut, Eyecolour loss stayed even after relogging back into  Bitterfrost and after porting  to Amnoon , Lions Arch and finally the Grove, Eye of the North,  Bjora Marches, Ember Bay and Bloodstone Fen  (most of the zones I remembered for unusual lighting and easy accessibility ) . So, from my early data it seems not linked to the zones environment

Mesmer Scepter sounds like someone hitting 2 wood sticks together.

It's fantasy. I don't want a realistic assault rifle sound in a game about dragons and exploding clones into butterflies etc.

It's supposed to be a bit silly because it's PG13, and that's perfectly fine.

Your friend just probably didn't like the game and looked for an excuse.

interesting - always felt it sounded like a tennis rack vs a ball.... (might be due to the motion on asuras ). And I agree with "if someone judges, or lets be fair call it "assesses", because the friend obviously does not have enough information to "judge"  a game after a few cursory moments, he was not interested in it at all. Also, Predator sort of has a silly sound

Although characters are still taking an unusual time to load in their portraits, as well as the background & selected character on screen, I'm fully able to login, and change character regardless of them showing or not.

same problem here - 30 secs+ for char screen but atm it loads after a while... (from an SSD) - esp the background take an unusual time to load

Not even in the slightest. You realise they've already said in this thread they nearly have a fix ready, right? Aka it has nothing to do with SAB unless you literally think them turning off SAB is their fix they've been working on?

Tomorrow's patch isnt just turning off SAB. Its adding a strike CM and LS1 episode 1, along with what I assume will be a lot of fixes, including one for this bug I hope.

honestly call me a life-worn cynic - but  words are cheap, actually solving the problem is not. There are lots of bugs in the game unfixed after several years, they needed weeks to fix the necro PC's mounting killed all minions back in the fall of 2021, still have not fixed  zip lines killing all minions necromantic since EoD came out ........and given their lack of enthusiasm to communicate on this bug, I do not think they are "certain" at all.
If I had the proverbial  Euro for every time someone on my partner's software developing team said " I think we have fixed the bug" but then hadn't, we could go on a long trip around the world

People thinking SAB "caused" this have some very strange axe to grind, or just have very little understanding of software. And I say that as someone who is very highly impacted by this bug and is being driven crazy by it.

Nawh it just weirdly enough coincided with SAB being patched in..... that be coincidental, but since there was no content added otherwise this is more like a "coincidence",

i've been asking people ingame and not many are experiencing this. maybe it's a region thing? my loading screen has been like 3-5 minutes long since today.

it's 10+players  in my guild (most of them thought it was only "them" and all are altoholics ) , and of course people who suffer from this might not actually log in or spend less time in the game ? Would skew your "poll"

If this problem ever gets fixed. I get the impression that this bug is of no real importance to Arenanet, hence the lackluster communication.

EoD had a great start, even though there were a lot of bugs, but they started to fix those right away, but this ... this is just sad. Especially while this bug keeps people from actively participating in the festival.

For the time being I will take my money elswhere, as I don't feel valued as a player, or customer for that matter.

Well even if they do not get it fixed (honestly two weeks ?) the by now typical non-reaction by the "community management" is equally galling.

Software development is somewhat like digging a well. Adding more people to the bottom of the hole generally does not result in the hole being dug faster.

It is more about the ability of the guy in the hole.

It's also about spotting the problem : as in more eyes spot more and question and query different things, they also provide different ways to resolve the problem.  And they have more time to check out if the solution breaks another part of the code and interacts as intended. Or are aware of changes in the overall software that were  - obviously, given the sudden failure of a core function - overlooked ?
Need some more analogies why more people usually help resolving a problem ?  Especially on a piece of software made and reworked by a team of people over a decade ? Software development is not organic gestation it's a composite structure of logical connections made by a multitude.. but keep white-knighting, it's passing the time

Hey all. I know this bug is really frustrating. We have an engineer working on it, so a fix is actively being worked on and in progress.

Thanks for hanging in there, and we're apologize that this bug is impacting your game experience.

Oh a red post. Unfortunately not anything hopeful.
Speaking for myself, the specification that _one_ (ahem "an") engineer is working on the problem has not made my heart dance with joy. It's awfully specific.    One out of  how many (well it was a few hundred in 2019 ) - after all the problem has been around for a week+X now.

Could be that they made changes to SAB and rather than try to sort through some complex interaction on limited content, they are going to wait until end of SAB festival, then roll something back that will no longer cause a problem with the festival timing, then sort out the fix.

Could also be that they tried to do a quick fix and then discovered no such fix exists. I mean they just announced there has been a bug since launch that doesn't process the WvW queue system right.

I also have a feeling this isn't practically affecting as many people as we all think - a tiny fraction of the playerbase uses the forums or files bug reports - for people that only play one character (and I think that's 99% of the population) this is a non-issue.

less theorizing , more facts perhaps.
It is pretty obvious it is related to SAB (started the moment SAB was patched in ) and probably EoD (since most of the accounts  affected run EoD ). OCCAMs razor to the rescue, if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it likely is a duck , not a T-Rex pretending to be a duck...
If they patched in bad code, why did that happen ? And why does it seem impossible to eliminate or correct  said code ? Also if they tried a fix, they would have announced it...

And not being able to participate in SAB and gaining the skins and achievements from it matters to a lot of the long time players who aim for highest APs and keeping a perfect score on their personal goals, so a roleback or "shrugging of shoulders" sits badly for them. personally I simply don't care but at least two people in my guild are livid over this

  10. one more observation : loading characters on the same location and zone, seems to help on  the "black screen problem". I can get up to 5 characters loaded  in a row if they are on the same spot (zone) , and I do not change zones and return (say, by accessing the GH, PvP etc ).
Changing zones - no more than one change of character, = black screen and a reload

Keep calm. They said they are aware of it and looking into it. But also Anet developers deserve a weekend. I am sure they'll fix it next week.

am pretty sure they would have fixed it with the highest priority if it concerned the GemShop. Also  - severe bugs affecting whales (aka people who have  quite a lot of characters  - am feeling a bit "low end" here with only 30 slots), usually people who pay money for stuff "now and then" feels like a bad choice, if the game is B2P in principle.
Speaking from personal experience - any coder/software developer I know who's work has a major bug, affecting gameplay for a significant number of people, their company would run extra shifts over the weekend.  My significant other's company certainly does. Most professions do.

    To summarize:

    1. It happen most of the time when you try to switch your character. It wont happen on normal map-changes when still playing the "first" character you logged into.
    2. It is not related to any map or region. It happens in wvw, pvp, Hot, pof, eod, central tyria.
    3. It is not related to your account-type, so it happens to both, accounts with EoD and accounts without.
    4. It is not related to either Dx9 or Dx11, it happens in both DirectX Versions
    5. It is not related to third-party stuff, it happens with arcdps installed or not, it also happens stuff like GeForce Experience installed or not.
    6. It is not GPU/CPU related, since its reporded from users from all manufactures. (Intel, AMD, Nvidia)
    7. Loading Times seems "infinite" - but are "just" about 10 Times as long as usually (so instead of ~20sec its now ~200sec)
    8. Some Textures corrupt or don't get loaded at all when it happens.
    9. Some Models don't get loaded at all when it happens.
    10. UI Elements don't get loaded at all when it happens.
    11. There no "specific" Textures/Models/UI Elements - it vary on what gets loaded or not. Sometimes you still have Backgrounds on your Loadingscreen/Char Screen, sometimes its just black. Same goes for Map-Objects, Skyboxes etc.
    12. In most cases: were entire "Ground"/Map not loaded - Most Models were loaded - Own Player Character not loaded, UI not loaded, Map/Minimap is black, Skyboxes are chess-pattern textures (color vary) , Camera is "stuck" (because no player character loaded) but you see yourself moving on map
    13. It "seems" that the chance for this is increased the more characters an account has? (Even when I don't see any logical reason why the character amount should have any impact on this?)

The rather concise summary of the problem from Thursday.
Best check how many of the boxes "yours" ticks or if anything additional happened

Seems that deleing the gw.dat and maybe the local.dat has worked for me.  A definite workaround, hopefully until the devs correct the bug overall. Takes a long time to download the gw.dat for it to be the ultimate solution for everyone. But, props to @Ouroboros.2094

This does not help - at least not universally -  the problem is back after the first few character changes. ... as if all of the above had not thought of it... honestly. /headshake

    excellent summary, thanks Nasbit

as an addendum : Experienced some extended loading problems with Grothmar Valley loading time. Will recheck with some more characters

Grothmar valley also has extraordinarily extended times, even on "Initial" (unchanged ) character, with structures being loaded very slowly and some appearing only after a few minutes in map (such as the Rodeo area  - between 10+ seconds for the bridge railings and 2+ minutes for stuff like the festival structures) - compared to Bjora (completely loaded map when logging in ), Thunderhead Peaks, Domain of Kourna, Bloodstone Fen, Lake Doric ( all of those maps because they have distinctly filtered light which they share with Grothmar Valley, which is my main suspect).

This even happened when leaving Gothmar and reloading it as the next thing.
While someone blamed Arborstone : that works(ed) fine

Got another response saying they're aware of the issue now and are working on a fix.

Small patch this morning raised my hopes .... but  - nothing fixed. - 2 character changes, Black screen - only 3 of 32 toons visible, plus the screen fading out to  black as usual.. Gotta love the tech support BS - but it sort of shows the level of quality control competence. Delay the angry customers while we furiously work and hope we find out where we screwed up..
    Can't say how happy I am....NOT

  16. did some further checking
    - Exchanged Graphics card : same on GeForce 1050 and Geforce 3060 TI, all on current drivers
    - reinstalled game (complete) in a different location : no effect
    - DirectX 9 or 11 (beta) makes no freaking difference
    - memory test came up all clear
    - after one reload and logout loading times increase
If I load in through the 3 min long load, all skills are "invisible" (empty frame in the toolbar ) and have no visible effect on screen

if used. character is "stationary" and cannot be moved (but can interact with say a very close node).

    - complete logout + reload needed for everything.

Beautiful Spaghetti code, if re-adding a tried and true area like SAB screws up the working rest of the game

  17. Since the SAB patch was loaded on 29th,GW2 loads game graphic with extreme loadtimes (60 secs+) . Changing characters leads to loss of  menu background and character avatars in select screen

GForce 1060 6GB (newest Driver 512 )., Radeon 5 3900, 32 GB of RAM, dual screen, running in 1080p, windowed mode. Running from SSD. Up until patch everything worked perfectly fine at highest setting. Cache is mostly empty ( ca 30MB ), Game has been "repaired". Game atm is mostly unplayable since character change requires complete log out and log in.
Either repatch or offer a solution on how to eliminate themassive problem

  18. same same : Skimmer speed is bugged - usually  over land. Also skimmer  is forced to stay low and cannot rise (for me very notable at Siren's Landing around the JP)  and needs re-summoning for normal skimming

Places where Skimmer speed breaks : Most of Sandswept isles, Siren's Landing, Ember Bay and Seitung Province. Infrequently in Kaineng city as well

Please. People. Of course they'll fix minions. They know how much that playstyle is appreciated (and if they didn't, the massive outbursts on twitter and this forums are proof enough).

But you are expecting from overworked devs (an expansion is coming, a festival is going on right now, next playtest is soon, alliances and stuff are coming too) to fix a complicated problem instantly. Give them time.

    In the meantime, you can:

    - Experiment with other aspects of the class (and maybe learn a trick or two to use once the minions are back to normal)

    - ...or other classes.

    - Enjoy the festival (2/3 of it are non-combat activities where you don't need minions at all and the rewards are nice).

    - Take a little break from the game to enjoy time with your friends, family, the sun/moon/whatever.

It will probably be fixed asap, don't worry.

As any good Reaper would say: Just chill ❄️

no they implemented this on purpose  and every day we cannot play is a day we cannot properly  play the game, participate in some events or do map completions or farming. or simply playing another game and not coming back.
or just imagine the outcry if a similar issue affects something like guardians or elementalists.

IF aNet is overworked, they should take smaller steps and not ruin the game for roughly one ninth of the player base, because they cannot code well enough.  the expansion is un- announced who cares for another week of delays. but they should NOT transfer the burden to their players and they OUGHT to communicate better

Or as any good reaper would say : they do not make the cut...
