  1. I had the same launcher-freeze problem, so the first thing I did was update my graphics drivers, but to no avail.  I tried adding usecoherent to the command line.  No joy there either.  I then found that other games started misbehaving or not launching at all.

    *Ding!!*  Rollback that graphics driver!  💡

    Everything works well now using Nvidia's driver from last December (...along with the usecoherent fix).

    P.S.  Thanks everyone (especially Chaba) for all the brainstorming and patient support.

    Been like that since 1u1d was implemented.

    Yep...  According to:  Game updates/2017-06-20 - Guild Wars 2 Wiki (GW2W)

    "If there is a tie for last, no world moves down, which also means no world in the tier below can move up (as there’s no room). Similarly, if there is a tie for first, no world moves up, which prevents the next tier up’s last-place world from moving down."

    What I don't understand is why SFR became red and AG became blue?

    I thought that a tie would preserve the relative positions of the tied teams.  In this case, SFR was green last week and should have at least remained positioned ahead of AG.

  3. Here's the roster from tier 1 down to tier 5 for anyone wishing to use gw2stats or wvwintel this week:

    .

    Silent Woods
    Phoenix Dawn
    Titan's Staircase

    .

    Thornwatch
    Dragon's Claw
    Skrittsburgh

    .

    Reaper's Corridor
    First Haven
    Stonefall

    .

    Fortune's Vale
    Moogooloo
    Grenth's Door

    .

    Griffonfall
    Seven Pines
    Giant's Rise

    .

    You can use the positions above to find and keep track of your team at those websites.  For instance, Silent Woods, at the top of tier 1, will appear as Gunnar's Hold.

    ... if your que pops while you are porting, you will see that you are "ready" for your que position, but there is no way to actually enter the map you were going to.

    I've been told that, in that state, you can walk through a portal for the target zone.  ...I speak of the portals in Lions Arch and in each WvW starting area.

    I do not know if that would be a good or bad thing for the remaining EU servers.  😎

    It would be great if a population shift allowed Europe to get reduced from 5 tiers down to 4.  EU and NA could then have properly synchronized round-robin tournament schedules like they wanted to do ~8 years ago.

    They will probably stay on EU as they enjoy their time zone EU night cap numbers advantage too much which they still have.

    True, some players definitely enjoy night capping more than a low ping.  And by that same argument we might also see some German and French speakers migrate to NA.

    How do you figured out which beta server corresponds to old server?

    I asked friends in different worlds to tell me which guild had claimed some stable asset like home Garrison or SM Castle.  I also needed to know which teams were playing which colour in that tier.  I then looked through the maps at those websites until I found the same claim, allowing me to match the team names for that tier.

  8. It's still possible to use gw2stats.com and wvwintel.com as long as you know which old server name corresponds with your current team name.

    For the EU roster:

    Seafarer's Rest = Dragon's Claw
    Piken Square = Reaper's Corridor
    Jade Sea = Grenth's Door
     .
    Far Shiverpeaks = Griffon Fall
    Ruins of Surmia = First Haven
    Desolation = Titan's Staircase
    .
    Underworld = Thornwatch
    Whiteside Ridge = Stonefall
    Aurora Glade = Fortune's Vale
    .
    Gunnar's Hold = Silent Woods
    Gandara = Skrittsburg
    Ring of Fire = Phoenix Dawn
    .
    Fissure of Woe = Moogooloo
    Blacktide = Seven Pines
    Vabbi = Giant's Rise

    This way we can still see how our team is doing without having to log in.

  9. Using a selection of random location names is fine, but perhaps future Team names could follow various themes.

    For instance:

    - A Guild Wars 1 heroes theme with Rurik, Koss, Gwen, etc.

    - A materials theme with Ambrite, Ectoplasm, Mithrilium, etc.

    - An ArenaNet alumni theme with Wyatt, Phinney, Gray, etc.

    Set free your imagination.  Themes are fun.

  10. I agree with adding this feature.  Perhaps when you go to the Roster tab of the Guild menu and press that Column Filter cogwheel, a new column can be flagged for this.

    I'd also add a new Permission in the Ranks tab that must be flagged to allow a guild member of that rank to select the given guild for WvW.  Guild members of lower rank can still enjoy guild membership, but would not count towards WvW numbers.  When building alliances, guild leaders will thus be able to control maximum numbers without being forced to expel players from the guild.

    EU have MUCH more time-zones than NA, so it’s a bad idea even on this level.

    MUCH??   NA has 5 if we include Alaska and Newfoundland.  EU has 4 if we include Moscow.  I think you'll find there isn't MUCH more Europe to be found east of Moscow's timezone.

    In any case, I'd agree with gloflop's suggestion to select a compromise timezone from the middle of each region.

    Why would you do this anyway?

    For the sake of balance, the algorithm will place a relatively weak guild with a somewhat strong team and vice versa.  Therefore, a hibernating guild, appearing to be weak, will be placed with a strong team.  And since, those 500 players are always starting a new season on characters that have been hibernating they will always be placed with a strong team.  And why would you not want to be placed with a team that is always strong?

    Sorry if I did not explain that clearly enough in my original post.

    Of course, there's always a ~13% chance of disaster if the main and alt guilds end up on the same team.  😢

    The main defence against this is that we don't know how long ANet calculates player activity (and is one of the reasons they don't give us those kind of numbers).

    True.  ArenaNet factoring in a very simple, but persistent pips-per-in-game-hour calculation could do much to neutralize this kind of exploit.  Let's hope they're listening.  😉

    Even if such an absurd edge case happened, it would still be better than what we have now.

    Absurd, yet elsewhere in this thread I'm told it's been "a complaint since day 1."  Perhaps the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

    Regardless of whether ArenaNet will counter this exploit, I do agree that it will still be better than what we have now.

  15. Two ideas regarding siege:

    1.)  Defensive siege that needs to be refreshed hourly should have more than that hard-to-see timer indicating when it will despawn.  The siege could appear to be at varying stages of falling apart the more it nears despawning.  Bits and pieces gathering at the base and wisps of smoke rising could offer visual cues to players that the item needs refreshing.

    2.)  The gem store should sell custom siege skins that work the way mount skins and custom finishers do.  For example, a player could purchase a unique trebuchet skin that would replace the standard treb skin when built so that it appears like an enormous giant standing on a pedestal throwing rocks/cows etc.  Or how about a high tech Asuran ballista that fires laser bolts with a unique sound?  Take my gems please.  😉

    They... Can already do this. What you are proposing has been a complaint since day 1.

    There certainly hasn't been a team-formulating algorithm for players to mess with since day 1.  ...Or are you suggesting that the new system will do little more than the current population assessor does?  Hope not.

    ...Your example fails if numbers matter more or calculated guild strength remains over multiple shuffles.

    Certainly the algorithm will be assessing strength on the basis of much more than numbers.

    But I hope you are right about performance data being retained across multiple shuffles.  That could help.
