  1. And that's what I was replying to. Like I said: Someone commented how long it personally took them to do it, and you called it an over-exaggeration because it was higher than your personal time. That's what I took issue with. Again, you're calculating based on your experience. I followed a guide doing Collection 1 as well, and I took longer than you. That's a fact, and neither of us are wrong in stating that. But just because someone took longer doesn't mean they're wrong or over-exaggerating.
  2. And I was saying that it doesn't matter how long each collection takes a person to do, and that it doesn't matter if you think someone else's own play experience is a gross exaggeration because it doesn't match your own. I don't really see where the break in communication is, here.
  3. Of course people with more time to play will play more, that's obvious. :| The point is that this time-gate drastically altered the line between people with enough time, and people with not enough time. There's a reason people on the less-time side never do the other time-gated stuff like legendary gear crafting. The big problem is ANet slapping that amount of time-restraint on a mount when they've never done that with any of the bonus mounts leading up 'til now.
  4. And I never said that the way I did it was the way everyone did it. I know people do it quicker than me, and I know people do it slower than me too. Going back in the thread, you said: In response to someone saying that some people have jobs that prohibit them from doing this in a timely fashion. What I'm trying to say, is that it doesn't matter if some people with jobs can do it, and it doesn't matter if some people can do it 5 hours instead of 10. What matters is that the people who are on the latter half of the spectrum are getting a bad deal in this situation.
  5. It really can't be used in both ways, because your style of play isn't affected by this. If neither side was being affected, then this thread wouldn't be here. Saying you're not affected isn't helping the dozens of people posting in this thread that are. That makes absolutely no sense. Okay, let me word it differently. We're here and posting because the way things have been set up by this time-gate have affected us, and how it's detrimental to our enjoyment of the game. The time-gating has no effect on you or your play style and pacing. And while this is fine and great for you, this wasn't the point of the complaints. The time-gate would have absolutely no bearing on you whether they decided to keep it on or not, so why does it matter if the people who do get affected want it to change?

  7. It took me 6 to do the first day's with a guide. It took me 5 to do the second's.It took me 2 to do the third's before the time-gated feeding. Everyone does things at a different pace. Some people did it quick enough to already been on Day 2 of the feeding already. We already knew this. Again, just because you could do it in a certain time even with the restrictions, it doesn't mean everyone does/can.
  8. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Exactly this. People who think others are lazy just because they or someone else they know can do this while working just come across as really arrogant. While it's awesome that you can, compared to the almost hundreds of people I've seen across forum threads, in-game, and on Reddit, you are the minority. Everyone's lives are different. Everyone's got different things to do with their free time besides Guild Wars. And the daily reset is set regardless time-zones, meaning while the reset is in a very optimal place for some people's schedules, for others it falls at a very bad time, like right before they have to head for work, or in the middle of the night. Guild Wars 2 has millions of players. If you don't get affected by this, that's great. But don't treat those who can't as lazy. :\
  9. Maybe your dragon doesn't want to/can't physically eat 12 meals in one day? Maybe you need to earn its trust over time? Forcing it to eat 12 times when it clearly doesn't want to just seems cruel That doesn't really make sense when you can feed it all 14 harvested treats without a gate.
  10. But the point they're trying to bring up, while it might be valid in a way, isn't relevant to the issues people are bringing up. No one's saying time-gates don't serve a purpose, we're saying that in this context, no matter what the intention was, it's created way too many issues. In the end, the purpose doesn't matter, it's the outcome.
  11. So if you don't even know the point you're arguing, why are you trying to argue it?
  12. Thank you for responding to our concerns. I hope we've done a good enough job explaining our gripes so we can come to a better understanding and hopefully create a better content environment for the game.
  13. The problem here isn't that people aren't seeing a reason they're using time-gating. The problem is that you're seeing the reason you think ANet is doing this, and refusing to think they're doing it for any other reason. If you're truly going to assume that anyone with a criticism of the time-gates issues isn't worth talking to, I frankly don't understand why you're even here on this thread. It's been stated dozens of times in the thread, we get the reason most people think it's there, which is to stop binge-playing. But the binge players aren't even the people being affected by this. It's the people who don't have the time to do the content before the gating, who don't have the time for it. Time-gating isn't new to GW2 in any way, I'm no stranger to it at all. I've done daily crafting for Guild Hall mats, I've done ascended crafting, I've done backpiece farming. But I knew exactly what I was getting into, and people know what's entailed with it, which is why some people decide if they want to do it or not. Nobody even knew until yesterday at reset, after everyone had already sunk in 12 or more hours to these collections, that Day 3 would entail an extra 22+ day time-gate inside of the time gated content. The issue here isn't what you think it is. It's not people debating whether or not time-gates are effective or serve a purpose. It's about why this content, despite being comparable in function to the last release, is so drastically different, and needs to be time-gated when there's already so much time and effort going into the collections alone.
  14. There's another method that's way easier in the tooltip, to get frozen by the ice storm mobs in Bitterfrost Frontier. It only took me 10 seconds that way, but this implies that you have access to S3E3 and therefore Bitterfrost. And I know plenty of people who came in post-PoF and never got S3, so they're limited to what you said.
  15. How, pray tell, are we supposed to "understand ANet's motives" when they haven't even told us what their motives are? We got no information on launch, can't even figure out information until the time-gates are passed, and have gotten zero response from ANet as to why this is the way it is. You're not, but you don't need to. That doesn't mean those motives don't exist and they didn't have a reason to use time-gating. Thanks for skipping over the first half of the post where I literally explained why people are thinking they shouldn't be using time-gating on this content just so you could say the same thing you said before I replied.
  16. Sorry, but if you truly think no one is attempting to explain why it's used, you haven't been reading the same thread I have. You and others have been saying that it's "there to stop content binging" since the start of this thread, but that's just not true. If we were going off of the Day 1 assumption of 4 simple daily resets and you're done, then maybe I'd see that point a bit better. But now, with the advent of Day 3, we've now discovered a time-gate within a time-gate, that unless you have the 200 or more gold to buy the items required will take you 22 days, and still take you an extra 4 even if you did. That's almost a month for a THIRD of the collection. And we won't even know what Collections 4 and 5 entail until Sunday or later, which could contain even more time-gated content. Considering no other mount has ever come close to taking this much effort to obtain, so it's just absurd. How, pray tell, are we supposed to "understand ANet's motives" when they haven't even told us what their motives are? We got no information on launch, can't even figure out information until the time-gates are passed, and have gotten zero response from ANet as to why this is the way it is.
  17. Okay uh, wow. 370+ new comments since I went to bed. Wasn't expecting that. Is ANet just merging every possible thread on this now? Don't get me wrong, I understand they don't want the forums to be clogged up with hundreds of same-y threads, but why merge this with the poll thread when it was already its own separate thing??? Only thing I can think is how it conveniently removes the poll that shows how an overwhelming majority of players didn't want to keep the time-gate in... ? But I digress. Seriously though, coming up on 3 days without any response from a dev or something? You'd think with the forums, in-game, reddit, and even content creators creating such a stink about this, they'd wanna run a bit of damage control. :pensive:
  18. Alright, it's time for me to sleep. So here's a few notes to people looking at this thread while I'm away; 1.) If you have any questions, please look through [or at the very least skim] the rest of the this thread first, as there's a good chance myself or someone else has already answered it in the many replies. Please don't get angry and post without knowing the whole side of our argument. 2.) Please be nice to one another. I know things are tense and the way the time-gates make information come out slowly leads to misunderstandings, but be civil. No insulting other people's intelligence or hyper passive-aggressiveness. I ain't trying to get this thread locked, mmkay? 3.) I swear on the Khan-Ur, if I wake up and see one more person use the phrase "instant gratification" after blatantly skipping over every single thing people have said thus far again, I will /actually/ slam my head through my desk. G'night everybody. Sidenote: If you see someone doing any of the 3 things I said not to do, do me a favor and reply to their comment with this comment, since they clearly didn't see it. Thanks a bunch.
  19. Hey, it's no problem! Misunderstandings happen, and I don't blame you for not knowing. Literally nobody knew about anything about Collection 3 until the reset earlier today, so a lot of info hasn't had the time to spread out yet. Still, glad I could help you understand our frustration better.
  20. I've seen plenty of other people think this way about the Skyscale, and I agree with you on this. But what I've never really seen people talk about is that the follow-up question should not be "Well then why do people care about something so trivial being behind a time-gate?", but instead "Why does something so with such little bearing on play experience need to be locked behind a time-gate?" Stuff like legendary gear being behind time-gates makes sense, because they're literally the best you can get, being the same as ascended gear, but with the bonus of having on-the-fly stat switching, prevent you from needing to have a whole second gear set just to switch up your playstyle. That's why it's so easy for people with legendary gear to essentially dual-class with elite specs; they can easily change their gear to fit their needs. Whereas the Skyscale only does a couple things similar to existing mounts. I'm sure once it's fully unlocked and fully trained, it could even outshine the griffon and springer in some aspects. But because the Skyscale is locked behind almost a month of time-gated collections and materials [provided you can't afford to buy the Grow Lamp and Skyscale Food, which bumps it down to at the very least ; a week as far as we know.], when you stack it up against what exists, it seems like a huge loss on time compared to the pay off you'd get. And for reference, I'm not talking about the collections on their own. 1 was a bit tedious yeah, but I genuinely enjoyed Collection 2. This is solely a criticism of the time-gate unnecessarily inflating the effort required to get the payoff.
  21. This implies that what needs to be done isn't time consuming already though. Parts 1 and 2 [out of 5 total] have already taken 12 or more hours from myself and others, and even more for the people who managed to beat the first daily reset and are on Part 3 now. Implying that they would remove the time-gates, that's still 30+ hours worth of content through the collections. 30 hours definitely isn't much time compared to grinding for legendary gear, but it's still the most amount of time required for a mount so far, including the griffon, which is arguably comparable in function. So it's not like no time-gates would immediately equate fast, seeing as how even the most hardcore grinders would still take 2 or three days, which is a lot more since you get the beetle in less than 1 without breaking a sweat. And it's actually ironic to equate this to mobile gaming, seeing as how mobile games like Tiny Tower and Clash of Clans use the same model of making you wait days at a time just to keep playing.
  22. I want to personally thank you for being the first person I've seen in this thread to not take issue with the time-gating and not immediately follow it up by calling everyone who does have an issue "impatient and wants instant gratification." Cheers, mate.
  23. I find it odd that you're trying to be cheeky with that ;) and act like I'm not understanding what you're trying to say while you're also skipping over and ignoring the ways I've answered these questions in previous comments, but okay. Hardly anyone that's complaining about the time gate is a binge-player, because those players know that they have the time to do this. This is about the people who don't have the time in their day due to work/school/etc, and the time gates turn effort that they need to already spread out into a week or more, into possibly months, depending on how Collections 4 and 5 turn out. Guild Wars 2 has never suffered from returning players as long as I've been playing.. There are already dozens of daily quests, map metas, and other content that people are constantly working on. I personally spent over 2 months solo-farming Flax every day just to craft 200 Empty Kegs my guild's hall needed for Tavern Restoration 2. I'm no stranger to time-gating by a long shot. But when I did that, and when I did ascended crafting, or when I did S3 map farming for ascended backpieces, I went into those knowing exactly what I would be doing, and knowing that I could do it all on my time. ArenaNet has never made a mount time-gated until now. When it comes to mounts, they've always been consistent with "how they want people to play their game" until now. So the fact that they've not only completely changed how they've done bonus mounts up 'til now, while also not even telling us what to expect, I'd hope you can see why that would make people a bit ticked off.
  24. Sounds like a good method for those who already have a few crystals and the other materials required to craft the Lamp and Food, but at 18g per stack, 1000 is already 72g, and that only gets you 7 out of 22. Assuming you have equal RNG to what you got, you'd need at minimum of 216g to get that 22 quartz, and then have to spend more on other crafting mats if you don't already have them. If gold really isn't the issue, than it'd be easier to just buy the 12 Skyscale Food and Grow Lamp for around 160 - 200g. That is, unless the price spikes like crazy tomorrow and ends up somewhere in the in high hundreds... in which case, yeah, this method would be cheaper lol
  25. Mmkay, for starters, we're not doing the same thing here. You're talking about WvW, and I'm talking about PvE collections for a mount. The "If I have to wait so do you" thing would only apply if we were talking about the same thing. Stuff like that is based on a completely different progression model than PvE, so of course stuff like time-gating is natural there. Secondly, you knew what was entailed when you started doing WvW progression, I literally stated earlier that: We had no idea about anything for this mount, barring its name and abilities. Naturally, we figured it would work exactly like the beetle did. Why wouldn't it? They were both mounts released alongside a Living World story, why shouldn't they have the same model? Then the episode dropped, and everyone got blindsided because ANet told us nothing until that moment. Hell, we still don't even know everything about it, because Collection 4 won't even be accessible to even the most-progressed people until Sunday. Don't know why you're getting angry at people for being mad about not being told what they were getting into, until they were already 12+ hours deep. So by all means, if you want to make a thread, I wholeheartedly think you should.
