  1. No kidding. I bought gems with real money to get 50 keys. I was hoping for the new Starborn Outfit but didn't get it.

Out of 50 chests I got: the Dragon Fireworks glider/backpack combo, 3 soaring weapon skins, and a black lion claim ticket. Not a single rare item. But to be honest, I'm surprised I even got that many uncommons out of 50 chests. I'm usually lucky to get 1 uncommon or better out of 50 chests. Hell, I didn't even want the Dragon Fireworks backpack/glider. All I wanted was the outfit.

This is pretty ridiculous though. If the Starborn outfit was sold directly in the gem shop, it would have cost around 700 gems. But here I spent 4,200 gems I payed real money for (over $50.00) and didn't get it.

If the outfit could be traded I could understand it being RNG only. What they could do with cosmetic items that can't be traded is also make them available for black lion statuettes at the same time they are random drops from the chests. I'm sure the outfit will eventually be available for black lion statuettes, but that usually takes several months to happen.

But it would be fun to have a reason to do dungeons again.

That's a problem. Which dungeon track is available rotates. So if you want to work on a particular track you have to wait until it rotates in. In order to unlock a dungeon track permanently (which will let you do the track whenever you want), you need to complete story mode for a dungeon you want the reward track for. Edit: The dungeon reward tracks are unlocked permanently for your account once you complete story mode on any character for a particular dungeon.

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/WvW_Reward_Track#Dungeon_tracks

Dungeon tracks are available on a two-week rotating cycle. Players can complete the story mode of the associated dungeon—or in the case of Arah, completion of Victory or Death or explorable mode—to unlock its reward track permanently.

  3. Sounds like the OP is a thief that's tired of being spotted/marked by sentries and objectives with the watchtower guild upgrade, and wants a visual representation of the radius making it easier to avoid so he can get around and gank people without being noticed.

That would defeat the purpose of sentries and the watchtower upgrade, wouldn't it? Essentially it would be an advantage having a visual representation of the radius around sentries and objectives because it would make it easier to avoid getting marked by accidentally getting too close.

Besides, it's not hard to figure out on your own how close you can get before being marked if you play WvW enough.

  4. I had the same issue with the Bloodstone-charged lava wurm yesterday in Draconis Mons. Couldn't use ground targeting skills on it. It just kept pushing the skill away, even when standing on the platform in the lava right in front of the wurm. I even had a lot of troubling placing it on the platform in front of the wurm to use against the bloodstone elemental that spawns every so often. Often times, while in front of the boss and having the camera face the boss, my ground targeted skill wound up being placed and used behind the camera past the platform not even hitting the bloodstone elemental.

So it seems this issue isn't just related to world bosses. It seems more related to large creatures that are stationary.

Let's not forget it's the best method to receive Yellow Unid gear.

There is a daily limit to get rare unidentified gear from the chests. As stated by a dev on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/buqi7y/mistborn_coffers_limitation_in_getting_piece_of/epjaqds/?context=1000

This is correct. Every 3 chests guarantees a drop of 3 rare items. There is an effect that plays when this happens. After opening 100 chests, you will no longer continue to get the rare items and a different effect will play to demonstrate that you hit the limit. This daily limit has been in place since the map shipped.

Still a great way to get them since you're guaranteed to get a certain amount each day.

  6. You're absolutely right. I just checked in game. Neither of them have a vendor value anymore.

    In fact:

The bottom of the wiki page for kralkatie ore was last updated May 21, 2019. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Kralkatite_Ore It no longer shows a vendor value on the page for this item.

However, the wiki page for diflourite crystals still shows a vendor value of 1 silver 28 copper. The page was last updated on May 15, 2019. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Difluorite_Crystal

But in game it doesn't have a vendor value anymore.

Probably because the Skyscale collection requires 250 of each LW4 currency, and they didn't want people over farming them to sell to vendors for extra gold.

    It's the melancholy of life

I can still use my Exalted Portal Stone to go to an instance and play fetch with baby Aurene, even though she's all grown up and now an elder dragon. So your point is moot.

  8. @"Erasculio.2914" said:A U.S. Senator has introduced a bill to ban loot boxes and "pay-to-win" microtransactions.

While the "pay-to-win" ban probably wouldn't have any impact on Guild Wars 2, the Black Lion Chests are loot boxes, so they would be forbidden if this bill passes.

What do you think will happen?

What do I think will happen? Absolutely nothing.

    From the article you linked:

UPDATE (12:18pm): The Entertainment Software Association, the video game industry lobbyist group, sent over a statement shortly after this bill was introduced: “Numerous countries, including Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, determined that loot boxes do not constitute gambling. We look forward to sharing with the senator the tools and information the industry already provides that keeps the control of in-game spending in parents’ hands. Parents already have the ability to limit or prohibit in-game purchases with easy to use parental controls.”

Lobbyists own Washington. What they want, they get. The bill is already dead in the water and won't go anywhere.

Besides, Hawaii already tried this last year, introducing legislation to regulate loot boxes in video games. It wound up going nowhere.

    https://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/2018/03/24/hawaii-news/loot-box-bills-fail-to-advance/

One of the House bills — HB 2686, which would have prohibited the sale of video games containing loot boxes to people younger than 21 — failed to move past a single committee in the House, and was killed by the end of January.A corresponding bill in the Senate, SB 3024, successfully crossed over into the House in early March, but likewise passed no committees after that. The other House bill, HB 2727, would have required game publishers to disclose the probabilities for each random item received in loot boxes, as well as to display a label on a game’s packaging warning about the presence of in-game purchases. That bill crossed over into the Senate and stagnated, failing to pass any further committees.Senate Bill 3025, meanwhile, originally was a companion bill to HB 2727. However, the House Committee on Consumer Protection and Commerce amended the bill earlier this month to remove all aspects of its previous text and replace it with a requirement for franchisees to disclose if they are not participating in promotions of the franchise — for example, if a Hawaii location of a fast-food restaurant chain were not included in a nationally advertised deal. That bill was passed by all committees in both chambers and will face a final vote in the House.

Basically, the whole thing was amended to something that had nothing at all to do with regulating loot boxes in video games.

    • Check for players behind obstacles you can't see through, like walls, or in deep valleys (eg. EBG near Durios)?
    • Get an easier count of enemies?
    • Spot the paths of multiple fleeing enemies even if you can only be looking at one at a time?

I tried it by a tower wall and it didn't show me the people I knew to be inside it.

I've never had an issue with it. I use it near towers often and can see red dots inside on the opposite end of the tower from where I'm at. Usually I'll go right up to the wall on the outside of the tower before using it.

Possibilities: you weren't close enough to the tower and/or the player was just outside the range of Sniff, or the player had just left the tower right before you used it. Or perhaps something in your graphics settings is turned down and is preventing you from seeing the dots.

I was right humped against the wall and had the map zoomed all the way in. The people hadn't left as I could actually see them over the wall. However since this incident it's been working so it was more than likely an odd occurrence due to lag or something :)

Uhhh.......another possibility: something not working the way it's suppose to. :p

And I just remembered that I've seen players in WvW say that Sniff doesn't seem to work right sometimes. So, that is most likely what happened to you.

Hell, I was at Bay keep on the west side of Alpine Borderlands a while back. My team was working on the outer gate. I was on my warclaw using chain pull on it. A player on the other side of the gate launched a catapult at the gate, hitting me a few times until I was dismounted. What happened? I was sitting on the ground as if I was still mounted, but with my weapon and other skills useable. We broke through the gate and I entered the water to swim to the other side. My character was still stuck as if she was mounted and stayed that way. After capturing the keep I went to the character select screen then logged back in and that fixed my toon.

  10. Sniff could use improvements though. How I've seen it work is red dots show up on the mini map for about a second or 2, then fade out. Then a few seconds later it will show the red dots a second time for a second or 2. And of course, not being able to see stealthed players. Sniff just doesn't last long enough to give you a good idea of what's going on.

Good example: not too long ago I was with a group of players that captured a tower. I hopped on my mount and used sniff but didnt' see anything. Then someone noticed a daredevil come out of stealth. We ran all over the tower trying to find him. I used Sniff again when it was off cooldown and still didn't see the stealthed player get pinged. It took about 10 of us several minutes searching for that player, due to him being in stealth for a good 60+ seconds at a time. It wasn't until 1 of our players used a skill their profession had to reveal the daredevil and we defeated him. If we weren't determined to get him, he would have stayed hidden inside the tower until we left, then capped the tower himself without having to break through the gate or wall first.

What they could do is make it so stealthed players within rang of Sniff end up being revealed/marked and unable to stealth for about 3 seconds. And for the mini map it could show the dots for a few seconds.

  12. I'm not seeing anything in game about trading in Tomes of Mentorship to the mystic forge attendant. I just checked. I do have a few Tomes of Mentorship in my bank.

You can only trade in Tomes of Knowledge to the mystic forge attendant for spirit shards. You can also use Tomes of Knowledge on level 80 characters to gain 1 spirit shard each. Trading them in to the mystic forge attendant makes it much easier than double clicking them, because you can trade in how ever many you want at once.

Tomes of Mentorship can't be used at all by level 80 characters. You mainly get them from the personal story step Victory or Death. Their intended purpose is only to give a head start to characters under level 80. There isn't any way to trade them in for anything or anything else you can do with them. If you don't need them, either save them in your bank in case you want to create a new character later on, or just discard them.

  13. @"Auburner.6945" said:I was so excited for this "No Downed State", and don't get me wrong, while I still like it that much, I can't play my Weaver as backline as everything one shots, I get hit by 16k CoR, 20k Gunflame, 35k Arc Divider, 23k backstab, 7k SB auto attacks, and many many more. I had to run Toughness and Vitality on trinkets to be able to survive this week.

Regarding solo roaming in this week, I don't have tricks like other classes or any invulnerabilities to defend myself, so basically, everyone runs full glass and hits like a truck while I am still on normal WvW roaming build.

I was excited too. I prefer to run around with my power scourge. But after getting killed multiple times by a ranger's Rapid Fire, I switched to my own soulbeast. With no downed state, fights seem to be kinda one sided and are over rather quickly, whether you're solo roaming or in a large scale zerg vs. zerg battle. We went from a wide variety of builds, to quite a lot of players going with high damage burst builds. It comes down to who can kill the quickest. Heck, I got in a fight last night with another soulbeast while roaming by myself. After killing him 2 or 3 times he came back once more but was too afraid to get close to me. He took off and left me alone.

With being able to rally off of defeated players and NPCs, fights can end up taking forever. So the idea of a no rally event seems like it could bring a bit of balance so fights aren't over too soon or take to long. The OP's suggestion seems to be something the devs haven't tried be for, and is worth a chance to see if it could improve WvW at least a little.

  14. I must have misunderstood the OP's suggestion. He/she simply said "no rally week" but didn't offer specific details as to how it would work. So I assumed he/she meant not being able to even used downed skills (like skill #4) or be picked up by team mates and all we could do once downed is lay there waiting to die.

! Sometimes my brain don't work right 'cause I'm an idiot.

If the OP is suggesting only that we can't rally off of defeated players or NPCs, but still be able to used downed skills and have team mates help us up, then that would be an interesting experiment and I'm open to the idea.

I admit, there have been times in zerg v. zerg fights where I was downed and rallied off a defeated player so fast that my character doesn't even hit the ground. I just hear "ding" and my skill bar flashes for a split second.

I'm one of those that doesn't like the no downed state event. It takes away an advertised feature from the warclaw (pouncing to finish off downed players). Not being able to rally off of defeated players and NPCs sounds like a middle ground that would still lets us pounce with our warclaw, but also balance fights out a bit. It's worth a try at least.

  15. If we can't rally then what's the point of even having a downed state? It would just make it easier to get pounced by warclaws because we won't have a chance to get up in 2 seconds after being downed and will just be sitting ducks. When you have too much AOE and whatnot going on around your bum laying on the ground, chances are pretty slim that your server mates will be able to pick you up without getting downed/defeated themselves. You'd just be laying there waiting to die.

If we can't rally off enemies in the downed state, then we might as well not have a downed state at all. Like the current no downed state weeklong event going on right now.

  18. What I've been wanting is an endless super adventure tonic. I'm surprised they haven't made one yet.

Individual tonics for various SAB creatures would be nice, but I'd settle for a single tonic that gives a random transformation. I really want to run around as a super beedog or bunny. Maybe even a SAB snake or monkey. Perhaps as next year's reward for completing the (Annual) Super Adventure Box Nostalgia achievement.

Various SAB transformations already exist in the game and at least some include costume brawl skills. But you can only get transformed into a random SAB creature by interacting with a super adventure box 'o fun, and the transformations only last about 30 seconds.
