Try cele shortbow vindicator. You just spam dodges to win.

This is so true. I'm a slower elderly gamer and there's really no reason to click, except due to habit. Get yourself a Razer Naga Mouse or something similar with 12+ buttons. Practice a bit and it really speeds up combat choices. As for Kuya's point, he/she is spot on, from playing an Engineer for most of my time, the simplicity of the short bow on Rev is perfect, you can play it with power, condi or celestial. Try it.

  2. Thanks for your input, but I fear that without an evade, knockdown or boon strip, we are just rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic. What hampers the support concept is that without weapon swap or mitigating kits, we will be eaten alive by every class in competitive play. It's telling, that the only workable use of the shortbow has been helping the Mech tank in open world. Still it's only the beta.

Skills feel weak and to short of duration, radius too small......

I was going to write a long answer...but whats the point the weapon is worthless and Anet wont even care about the feedback, they never had and never will....I will just stay playing holosmith.

I was shocked at how poor the concept and workings were, too. Other weapons were in some cases clunky, but you could see the idea and design. I, like you, just don't get it. It was terrible and with no movement or defence, you are dead in competitive. I can't even offer feedback as it needs a complete rework.

For the sake of keeping information clear:

    • Sword 2 needs a target to teleport.
    • Flash Combo's Repose only works if you hit the target with all Flash Combos attack.
    • Whirling Light actually does not work like that, even if the tooltip says so, it just extends the AoE range of the skill.
    • Judge's Instervention needs a target to teleport.
    • Merciful Intervention needs an ally target to teleport.

As for the usual builds people are having trouble with, which is Sword/Sword + Greatsword, in most cases the only port utility they are running will be Judge's Intervention, and the others are gonna be Whirling Light for Damage and Contemplation of Purity for massive cleanse/breakstun. Elite will be Renewed Focus so that they can reset the virtues.

Now imagining an scenario where you are not just getting jumped out of nowhere and you are actually fighting the willy, this to watch out for so people understand better what they are fighting:

    • Judge Intervention into Advancing Strike: People need to recognize if they got immobed and cleanse fast so they can dodge the rest of the combo that comes after. people usually follows up with something like Executioner's Calling and a weapon swap to proc Hydro Sigil then do something like Greatsword 2 or  Whirling Light. Executioner's Calling needs to hit the first time to hit the second time (the real damage) and Hydro proc won't hit you on a dodge frame. So, against like 80% of willys that are just button smashers a cleanse + a dodge at the start of the fight will pretty much negate all their initial burst.
    • The only Stab that most willys get is the traited Courage from Virtues trait line and is only 3 stacks and last 4s with no boon duration. This means that most of the time the willy is very weak against CC. Also, Courage becomes a stun break if traited, so if you can manage to make them use it for a stun break, you have a huge advantage.
    • If the willy is running Reversal of Fortune (2 charges, negate next attack and heal double if attacked during channel) then watch for the buff they get on and try to not attack them. The base heal is like 2k health, if hit is 4k.
    • If the willy is running Litany of Wrath (dmg transformed to heal) watch for that buff too and try to manage accordingly.
    • Most willys want to fight in melee. That usually means that dropping stuff at your feet will help a lot in dealing with them.
    • If they are running heavy damage, that also means they are running way less blocks.
    • Learn to deal with Blind, it will come from F1, Sword 2 and GS 3. A lot of people just use big CDs when they have blind and miss an opportunity, usually just spamming an extra auto attack will get rid of that for you.
    • If you are roaming, you usually should bring (and every class has) stuff that would help you in any kind of fight. You always want to have more stun breaks, some form of condi clear, and access to protection. Energy sigil for an extra dodge is a must at this point in the game for a lot of classes.
    • Willy is very melee, try to keep some distance and adapt your builds if you are having too much trouble with it. A lot of complains I get come on the form of "Why can't I kill this guy on the build I'm running?" In WvW if you see that you are fighting the same guy many times and losing, you should adapt a bit.

Now, for the actual things that need balance in my opinion:

    • Crashing Courage should do no damage if traited with Indomitable Courage. With that trait the skill is way too powerful (high damage, shadow step, break stun, stab, and the extra effect from the active)
    • Righteous Instincts: This is not too bad on power willys, but if you start adding boon duration, people can easly keep 10+ stacks of might. (cele bros)
    • Absolute Resolve: this trait when playing willy makes the skill too overloaded. Flowing resolve then can cleanse 5 condis in 1 button (2 from trait + immob, chill, and cripple from the virtue). I feel like if running the trait with willy, Resolve should have only 1 charge.
    • Advancing Strike should not have a slow.
    • Power Scaling for F1 (Rushing Justice) should be brought down a little.
    • Hydro Sigil is kinda busted. For me, is an average 4-5k AoE proc every time and that is not even with full might.

As a general note, the problem with balancing Willy specifically is that Radiance and Virtues traitlines just make the low cooldown virtues be too overloaded, but is difficult to balance those traits withouth killing them for other elite specs.

Also, one of the main problems with the game in general is overload. Too many things traited or not can do too much stuff with the press of 1 button. Every time that some trait adds something to a skill it should also make it lose something. It should change how it works, more than just adding stuff to it.

I'm prolly missing a lot of stuff, but I think the actual "willy problem" is 2 parts: a lot of people don't know how to approach the fight against them, and there is a couple of skills that do too much.

So true, but they didn't care with Engineer and other classes. The amount of builds I've had to drop is silly, they are not going to follow logic, nor your biased but interesting take on the overtuned WB. All I know is they kill me more than any other class, I mean it's not close they r still half to full health. They can out run 2 rocket boots and signet if Mech. Neutralise damage and boon defend so much it's crazy. Hate to ask for nerfs but I've suffered and so should you, because there will be no logic incoming soon.

Please nerf WB soon, this is becoming unplayable as thief

Any similar win build I've ever played has been nerfed within two months at most. But Anet must play it alot, as it's still overturned after all this time. I can't beat them. If I get close, they runaway and reset. At least you know with a Thief, they don't have stability, cleanses, invulnerable, fast speed, endless boons and hard hits on tap.

  6. Thanks for your input. This is just the theory craft as though I've run around in a havoc group, which it isn't suited too. I've not directly Commanded with it yet. Please critique and offer advice, I'm not sure about pets and whether to swap them or the final utility which could be stone spirit, signet of renewal or something else.

  7. Thanks, the Druid build is pretty much what I run normally, it really outperforms my old Heal Scrapper. The frontline one looks good, with 3 lots of stability, 4 if you take Relic of the Centaur. My server is such a terrible clouding one, I may need to share my own boons and run more toughness. But I like this, maybe I'll try it out in pugs this week, as I may not be leading till next Monday. Thank you so much.

  8. I'm relatively new to Ranger, (though I've dabbled over the years) as I've got Engi burnout. My Guild Leader also is burnt out irl and I'm thinking of picking up the WvW slack on one day a week, till she recovers her mojo.

We operate in T1/2 on a predominantly cloud server and open ourselves up to pugs and Allies. Conventional melee balls aren't usual on home borderland and the raid will only have a core of guildees 10+ in support on TS. Healing is like herding cats and I don't want to play a class i know nothing about. Is there a frontline, or just behind frontline build I could try and what runes and relics would help. I really need some veteran Ranger input. It could be only for a few weeks, but we don't take ourselves too seriously and have a good mix of Senior Players, who will be supportive. Thanks in advance.

Do you genuinely believe that power creeping everyone else to the stupid op levels of firebrand and mechanist is healthy for this game?

    I certainly don't.

I wish people would specify PvE or not, as nothing powerful about Mechanist in WvW with the nerfs it's taken.

  10. They are very situational like any burst build. If the initial artillery is dodged, they have nothing for 20 secs. Condis will murder them as they have no cleanse, bar sigils and shift signet on 40sec cd.  Cele builds can overload them quickly and the Mech can go walkabout like any bad AI. They are all or nothing, as the Mech needs the precision, ferocity boost and loses any tankiness. Hit the Mech if you're ranged, bring it down and Engie is dead. Willbenders, Harbingers, good Rangers, Thieves and Mesmers are more of a pain IMO.

I agree, as a Heal Scrapper, I finally have a dps build in Mechanist that unlike Holo doesn't rely on a trait line, it's good as a burst, but fails against all the above, more times than not and struggles with mobile, blocking Willbenders. With rocket boots and shift signet, I can get away when it all goes 'Pete Tong'.

  12. This is cretinous. I'm assuming this is a joke. Engineers are ruining? Have you faced all the cheese builds, that still seem to be untouched. Mechanist is fine, you can burst now like the other medium builds, but your zerk armour will be paper thin after the reflect or dodge. I'm an elderly player with ailing eyesight, used to pressing all buttons to get same level damage as a few press classes. I suddenly get a few press Engineer build and the whining starts.

I can understand if they need to nerf balance it in  WvW and PvP but I hope they don't do too much to cripple my PVE mechanist.

Mechanist has a role in PvP and I've played PvE for a first time in years due to the easy going nature of it. In WvW however it's destroyed in seconds, has pathing problems over a battleground and needs the elite to get it back in the game without the really long cd, leaving you a sitting duck due to no toolbelt skills. It can work in small groups and roaming a bit, but clever players take it out or just tank it and come and wallop you.

Outnumbered on a world where everyone gave up from reset doesnt really mean that much.

I'm a big admirer of your forum input and Karagee's effort to help his community is laudable. Anecdotal evidence is rarely accepted outside of specific areas, but for Gandarans, it's all true and debilitating. You hope you can have your Guild stick together, because you can't get any players to refresh it and that eats away at the collective psyche of the server over time in T5. It's hard to explain to others, your enjoyment and game anticipation get wiped away quite quickly when skill just meets numbers. That's not a different experience to most servers but to have it for so long is. So in anyway you can, please support us, we all love this game mode and care about the game and should outside of the banter, have an empathy for each other's plight. FREE GANDARA.

So you are basically complaining that your attempt at exploiting the system isn't working as you want. So what is anet supposed to do now - make it easier to exploit?

For some it's a protest, for some it's to test the algorithim, for some it's an attempt to get guild members from other games into the game. We have people from New World, Lost Ark and ESO we can't get in due to being full. For some they are just tired and fed up of playing endlessly outnumbered, with no visible understanding of why us? when we are never queued, bar probably one BL at reset. Lot of stats I don't quite understand, but if you play everyday and through the day and some evenings, your eyes don't lie. If ANET are being petty because of the withdrawal of people from WvW for numerous reasons and keeping it locked then it will be possibly one of the most anti-player decisions a Game Company have made. They are so lucky that we have a community that sticks together and isn't torn apart, even though you just want to get away from the pointlessness of being on Gandara in T5

This is coming from an engineer main who loves scrappers core identity, any buffs to scrapper in its current state would make it even more dominant in WvW zerging and to an extent roaming due to the condi roaming builds.

Condi roaming builds? Mine got shafted with Scrapper changes that added quickness trait. Better off condi-bunkering on Mechanist. But if you have a build please share it. Don't think I've seen a condi Holo or Scrapper in months.

I'm NA but I've heard horrible things about gandara population

Gandara has a lot of social WvW Guilds made up of really good people. It is probably the least toxic server I know and I'm account stretched across a few. If someone is toxic, they tend to get pushed out and blanked by the community. There is little or no drama in comparison. Create an alt and come and play here, tap me up and I'll introduce you to the fluffiest folks you can find.

This thread is a perfect example of that. It has alot of angry Gandarans. I can understand why they are angry. I can agree with them that the current system is bad or problematic in how simplistic it calculates activity. However, if I don't misunderstand them, I get the impression that many of them want to solve the "problem" by making sure that the system should only count people as active for when they are active. For example, they have alot of Gandarans playing maybe two-three out of seven days a week so they want them to be counted as part active: Essentially allowing the server to be three times the size to the cap. A system like that just isn't feasible either and, again, that is not Anet's aim with Alliances. The aim is to bracket each piece of the puzzle similar to another piece and spread those pieces out one by one to create as similar totals as possible.

It will take Alliance A, B and C - compare them - and if similar spread them out. It will do the same with guilds and players. So every world will have something from every bracket of size and activity. It is pretty simple and pretty good. Now, if only they would spend the money to finish programming it. Instead of pretending to us that they care, when they do not care with their wallet.

It's a good point, but I think as Gandarans we're dumbfounded as to how calculations are made and therefore look for patterns. One of which is higher participation at the weekend ( not enough to get queues though, which is important to note ), some is dailies and then logging off and maybe we're a second server for some. Even if we lose our minds over ANET's calculations, we won't lose our will to fight and we won't lose our identity.
