  1. Compromises! Having a count down of time instead of just every 24 hours sounds like a good way of appeasing most people!
  2. I said it's okay for people to like time gates and have their own opinions on them, I don't personally like them so I'm going to argue that they shouldn't be there for items that are not cosmetic or legendary/prestige items. I apologize if I was unclear on that but what I meant was I understand why people might like them and that's fine that they have that opinion and want to voice it, but I have my opinions that I'm going to voice at the same time.My question is what is it about the time gate that people like so much? Most of the reasons I get from people is in regards to limiting grind time but you don't NEED a time gate for that. That's what I mean by people doing things at there own pace. People are voicing their frustration with it. Anet tried something different and many people are unhappy with it. That's why were here, even if the collection doesn't get changed this time there's future mounts to think about. If we don't express our dislike of this content this could become a new normal, and that's something a lot of people who like to avoid.Another option would be to time gate like ascended items are time gated. Have items be craft once per day items for those who like time gates but also have those item available on tp at a high price for those who don't. I personally like the story aspect of things, it's cute and wholesome, and it's the one argument in favor of timegating that I can get on board with. However, my issue is that this is a functional item that has use and will continue to have more use as the story goes on. There's going to be an advantage to having this, and the time gate plus long collections turns more casual players off. As much as I like realism, practicality is also important.
  3. The way things are even if there weren't time gates most people would get the mount day one anyways. I'm confused by what you mean by spoiled? The mount is no secret, it's been more advertised than the actual patch. Also I'd be more worried about the story being spoiled than what the mount looks like.I don't really see how removing the time gate would so negatively affect other players who haven't started yet?
  4. This is a great point. I see a lot of people saying they like having time gates so they don't rush through things, but why can't you manage that for yourself without everyone else having to be limited as well? People play games in different ways and will like different things. People are free to like time gates, but it's also fine for people to not be okay with them. Everyone has different schedules and ability to play for an amount of time but it becomes harder when there are locks put in by developers. Everyone is free to take their time and do things at their own pace, but it's also fine if someone wants to push through the content. That's ultimately their choice.
  5. What's so sad about this situation is that the skyscale looks like a genuinely fun mount, but because of this whole situation people are looking at it saying 'is it really worth all this?' Now people are looking at it far more unfavorably because all the work it takes to get it would imply that it is worth far more than it actually is. The mount itself is actually pretty great, especially for those who don't have a gryphon, but this whole situation makes it look a lot worse.
  6. The big problem isn't that it can't be completed at once, it's pacing. Yes there will always be those that engage in unhealthy play habits to get things as fast as possible but that's ultimately their choice to make. Even in this wasn't time gated, it will likely take quite a bit of time especially for those who only allocate a limited amount of time to playing each day.A lot of people are upset cause they want the mount in good time and are forcing themselves to rush the collection so they can complete it before rest. This isn't a particularly healthy behaviour either. Regardless of whether this content is time gated are not, there will always be those that engage in unhealthy amounts of playing, but just because there are those that make that decision doesn't mean that there should be these gates put in place that ultimately will effect those who don't play as much more so than those who do rush content. That's the big thing that people keep saying, it's not about those who will rush through the content regardless, it's about those who don't have the time or do want to limit themselves to a more healthy degree of play time that are being affected in unintended negative ways.
  7. Part of me was hoping that we'd get the mount part way through all the collections when I first saw how many there were. Looking at the datamining, it's getting even crazier! It's really daunting looking at it, not even including the time gating.
  8. Most of the pictures will show the location on the map, It's not perfect but things tend to be fairly easy to find if you're in the exact area. Not as nice as a dulfy guide but it works for now!
  9. No my dude, YOU are dodging everything. We've made our points, most of which are valid arguments, and your arguments come down to 'I like something therefore everyone else should." If you're not being a troll trying to tick people off then this is really sad. I don't think you've actually listened to a word anyone has said to you.You like something and that's fine, doesn't mean anyone else will. Also the difference between this and legendary items is NOT AN OPINION. There is an inherent difference in how a top tier prestige item and a regular item should be obtained.
  10. Thanks for the update! I do hope they we provided some constructive arguments that can help better both this mount acquisition and others in the future!Cheers :)
  11. So this is also a point that people bring up, why is this mount in particular so difficult to get? With the gryphon the process made sense since it was so different but why did they decide to treat this mount like a legendary? Also the rental system is all well and good but it's annoying not be able to use any masteries the mount offers and having to constantly back track to grab one if you choose to interact with anything. I kind of feel the opposite, the time gating feels like a lazy way to extending content but I find some of the collections fun when they send you all over to explore for things. Yeah some of it feels really uninspired but a lot of it's good. Just feels bad that this whole situation tarnishes it.That's fine that you don't like the mount or the process, but there are people that do and really want the mount, which is why they're annoyed at this whole situation.Either way the system's got some problems.
  12. I do hope that anet take a look at what has worked and what hasn't with mounts. The roller beetle, warclaw, and even gryphon acquisition were perfectly fine and enjoyable without needing to push time gates. I love the idea of doing these collections and scavenger hunts that send you all over the place and let you go through the process of growing the mount, but the time gate will always feel irritating. Even if I personally don't like it everyone is entitle to their opinions and I hope people are enjoying the content! :)
  13. Buddy, we mean the point at which we have to finish the previous collection by if we want to start the next one without being punished by waiting another 24 hours. Finish the collection 5 minutes after reset? Can't continue.Stop twisting arguments and ignoring when we mean.
  14. I don't think you understand me at all considering you disregard everything I say and respond in a condescending way. And I see where you're coming from but you need to understand that this is not a legendary item, this is not a prestige item, and also this isn't something that has the level of content that wvw, pvp, and legendary gear provide. With those there is time gating but it's different than collections. You always have content to play that goes towards rewards, but with this collection you do the limited content and then are STOPPED. You don't get that constant stream of content that you get from raids, wvw, and pvp. You are bared from continuing the content until time is up.Also stop using these strawman arguments, none of use are saying that anet should cater to specific schedules. What we're saying is that there are better ways of extending the amount of time it takes to get something, and time gating COLLECTIONS like this in which there is very limited content is just going to push people away. This isn't wvw, pvp, or raiding, nor is this a legendary item.
  15. My point is that gating off a new mechanic in such a way that will drive people away from obtaining it is a really poor move! We're mad cause we WANT TO WORK ON THE COLLECTIONS but are being stopped by time gates. And the deadline is finishing the previous collection so we can get the new one at reset. You don't finish in time? Screw you, you don't get to work on your collection another day. This isn't about laziness, this isn't about "crying," this is about being locked out of content day to day unless you finish within a set time frame.
  16. No one's saying that they don't want to work for it! We're saying that the time gate, for something that is NOT A LEGENDARY I might add (nor a skin), is just not a good way of extending content and feels like bad game design! The collections are great, working for something is great, just having these artificial gates is not! Stop acting like people don't want to play the game. We just don't want these time gates halting our progress and forcing us to speed through collections to meet the deadline of reset.
  17. Whenever I see people making this argument it's always in regards to cosmetics. This is different, it's a functional item, one that the new map is meant to feature. Gating off this type of thing that does have function in the game other than cosmetics is not the same as gating off a skin. This is the big point that people are making, that making things difficult is find and make people play through the content and even some old content is great, but time gating especially for a functional item is not a good method of keeping people going and actually making an enjoyable experience for the player. This is not how you keep a playerbase enjoying your game, this is the type of thing that drives people away. Also this feels like it wouldn't be as big of a deal if anet were transparent as to how much work actually goes into getting this mount. At least with legendaries we know what goes into crafting them and we can judge how much time we have to spend instead of just being strung along with increasingly annoying collections and gates that we can't see till the previous one is done and reset hits.
  18. I don't mind long, difficult collections, but THIS is absolutely ridiculous! Make us wait 4 days? Fine, it's annoying but alright. This however is a goddamn mess! This is a feature, not a cosmetic! It should not take this much for something that is not advertised as a prestige item like the gryphon. And the lack of transparency about how long this really actually takes is shady, and just really badly implemented.Anet needed a win here after the whole layoff situation, and this is not how to do it. I don't get why they would put themselves in a position where people are obviously going to be angry. Right now they need the support of their playerbase, and this ain't it.
  19. I think the big thing here is that if they're going to time gate something it should have been the armor. If they feel that they have to time gate something to keep people around time gating cosmetics makes way more sense than time gating something that has function, especially in the new map.
  20. The whole argument of "well would you rather spend 250 gold?" is a little ridiculous considering the griffon was meant to be a hidden prestige money sink type of things. This is a mount that was advertised for the patch and is actually a necessary mechanic for it so it's a lot closer to the roller beetle and warclaw. The roller beetle takes time to get, and of course there's going to be those who power through in a day but for a lot of others it takes time. Is it the biggest deal? No, but it wasn't smart considering how this was pushed as a major selling point. You can make things harder to get without putting a solid time gate on it, which does make this a lot more difficult for people that don't have hours to sink into the game. Also having the mount rental available is nice and all, but it's a major pain in the ass. I don't mind cosmetic stuff being time gated, but this feels like something you need to really appreciate a lot of stuff on the new map so it just feels a little ridiculous that out of everything they could time gate to keep people playing, they pick this.
