GW2 Core is free to play. And hey, it's kind of what you wanted right? "Vanilla servers?"

What do I do when I see a christmas tree on fire fishing in the asura starter zone? It happened before. Just pretend it is not there and move on? I rather play solo than see this.

Play core content (not like you'd have any other on vanilla server) on core specs. Bonus points for getting core account so you don't have masteries.

For that matter, make a core guild so you can play fractals in core parties too. If you won't be able to gather enough people in the guild that want that core gameplay then that's your answer "why no vanilla server". Because like whole 5 players want it.

I actually did that last night. I went to Dry Top. Took me 12 minutes until I saw this.

Or something very similar. The rainbow on the wings really stood out. I know. You think this is not distracting bla bla bla. That I can just do my own thing while ignoring it bla bla bla. Skins don't matter bla bla bla.

That is your opinion. Not mine.

That ain't vanilla or classic mate.

Then what do you call an MMORPG with only the vanilla content that has the quality of life features from the modern version?

What is the correct term I should be using for this discussion? Because we currently have examples of this being done.

Yeah, I mean, there's absolutely no benefit to them allowing this at all. The idea is ludicrous.

Blizzard sued and shut down numerous private server operators in the past, ArenaNet would do the same if someone tried setting one up.

Thing is, Blizzard shutting down private servers doesn't make me want to play on their official servers. Because they are trash. People play on private servers because they hate modern WOW. I highly doubt they are bringing in new players by doing this. They are just causing bad PR for themselves.

It is beneficial for the players. But as we all know capitalism bla bla bla anet private profit shareholders bla bla bla no fun allowed.

Here is a question for you. What happens to Guild Wars 2 once anet shuts down the servers? Not "IF", but "WHEN". It is an inevitability. Might be 10 years from now. Might be 50. It will happen.

Good ol' days of No Wardrobe, SOULbound legendaries (might have been berserker stats only; I don't remember), classes that people absolutely refused to run dungeons/content with and would kick you out as a griefer if you tried joining with them, extremely limited selection of skins/customization, slow combat, failed world bosses, world bosses not spawning on overflow maps (not sure if bug or feature at the beginning, but that was pretty "fun"/rage inducing having Behemoth not spawn on your map), decaying servers pre-megaservers, final mission of the core story being gated behind a dungeon (Arah), and a hek of a lot more. Good times.

(Plus Anet outright stating the other week that they're not looking at Classic servers, lol)

Another one ignoring what I said in the OP and lying that I want the removal of quality of life features such as the wardrobe.

"This guy wants the combat to be slower paced how it used to be. He also hates the idea of flying mounts in MMORPGs as they break exploration and traversal, especially for old maps that were not designed with flying mounts in mind. This means he also wants the removal of a convenient gallery for all his skins even though he didn't say so. Sure makes sense to me." Basically your logic.

Go look up Turtle WoW to understand how to make a vanilla server for an MMORPG while keeping all the QOL features from the modern version (and then some). Last time I reply to one of these posts. Blocked. Bye.

If anet doesn't give a single F about classic servers, let people host their own classic servers.

I think it's better to watch a movie without looking at your phone, but watching a movie with your phone on the arm of your chair, facing up with twitter open isn't ideal just cause you can choose to ignore it. Even if a person knew they'd be happier just focusing on the movie, you can still be lured in, or even just be distracted by having to wrestle with the temptation.

That said I've gotten pretty good at just playing games the way I want to. My main problems are that anyone I'm playing with or doing an event with is constantly just zooming past me. And also, frankly, just the aesthetic and atmosphere. I know you can't control what other players do in MMO's, and I don't get mad at players for zooming around on mounts(i can see the appeal, actually, the mounts feel way better in this game than in other MMO's), but I think it's also reasonable for me to say that I play MMO's for the tone, atmosphere and pacing of an adventure game, and personally I'd just prefer if the game was still focused more on that vibe. I mean I pretty much only play games for the vibes, really.

This. I just did the Dragon's Stand meta after not doing it at all for several years. Let's just say, it was different from the Heart of Thorns days. VERY different.

Mounts everywhere (not using them means you will be left behind), massive DPS with the new elite specs and changes resulting in much shorter fights.

Even HOT content has been heavily altered by the new changes. And people say "you can just do core content, it's the same."

But are you forced to play something you don't like?

No. You're not forced. You can use whatever tool you want. It's just poor video game design. I would say the same thing about DOOM if it gave you a BFG with infinite ammo by default. And then asked you to use worse weapons cos they are more fun.

You should comment, becouse for now I am far from treating You seriously. Bunch of perfectly normal, decent looking players. Some have leges, but it's not like leges were not in the base game. One glowing mini, thats it.

Then don't play with elite spec use basic builds if you dislike elite specs

Here is a build that does 5k dps with no buffs from other people. Here is a build that does 7k dps with no buffs from other people.

Which one do you think is objectively better?

This argument "just don't use the best gun in this video game" doesn't make any sense to me. The BFG in DOOM is objectively the best gun for any situation. It is one of those seizure inducing particle overkill kind of guns. But you use it rarely because of how little ammo for it you get. The super shotgun is still the most satisfying gun.

Now imagine if in DOOM you had infinite ammo for the BFG by default and you were told "don't use the BFG if you prefer the super shotgun". Playing Guild Wars 2 nowadays feels like playing DOOM with an infinite ammo BFG.

Other skins not from gemstore, demon lady set, wizard set, and wizard hunter set do not have ANY glowing parts. So sorry but this part is complete bs on Your side. Watch the newest skin from this tuesday, hood with a mask, Mortal Kombat style, not an ounce of glow

  10. I checked the required grind to get it. And it's absolutely insane. The end reward doesn't seem like much.

In terms of horizontal mobility, it's laughable. I overtake skyscales with my beetle or gryphon all the time during metas. I can even overtake them with the jackal if I use the vigor buff.

Vertical mobility is better. Obviously superior to the springer. Might be useful if you are going for map completion and can't be bothered to find the bouncing mushroom or the place where to jump with the springer. Currently I got no plans on doing map completion. I did it with 1 character and that was enough for me.

  11. This is the new map design anet has implemented after vanilla. I pointed it out as well, but I was told that I'm imagining things. Probably people who didn't play Guild Wars 2 vanilla back in the day. The core maps are much more open, have very little verticality and don't require you to go secret hunting to unlock hero points.

Path of Fire maps were in a way a return to the vanilla map design.. But bigger and better. This time with mounts in mind. POF maps were the exception from the new rule. I recently got my hero points on an alt character in POF and it was so much fun to navigate those maps. Such simple easy to read design. Use raptor to cross this gap, use skimmer to get high above the water to that ledge, use jackal to teleport through portals. Plus all the beautiful views. A breath of fresh air from all the BS in icebrood, HOT, EOD and living world.

If you want to tell me that the map design is the same as in vanilla, tell me how you found this hero point https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Submerged_Cathedral . I found it with a guide. Even on an alt. Cos I forgot the magic pixel I have to go through.

Not really, on the contrary, overall a lot of rotations got easier on many classes.

Thing to note here: in the past, setting up the golem incorrectly (for example adding all class buffs instead of just warrior banners and druid spirits) resulted in inflated golem numbers to the extent of adding 4-5k dps.

Maybe you are misremembering your performance. Maybe the old rotation worked better for you.

What ever it might be, you'll have to find a class which works better for you or practice if you want to improve to the level of 90-95% benchmark. Or switch builds to something easier, maybe a LI build.

Looking at 2-3 wingman logs, you are cancelling a lot of attacks too, which doesn't help.

I didn't put the wrong debuffs on the golem back then. I can confirm I remember it right because I made it to tier 3 on the crossroads inn.

I am cancelling the auto attacks. I fail to cast the next ability fast enough and it starts the auto attack. The power berserker rotation is not supposed to have any auto attacks in it.

  13. Or is it just me? I remember doing staff power weaver back when it was META. And later on sword/ dagger power weaver as the META changed. Kind of fast paced. Quite a lot to remember on the order but I was doing fine. Easily doing 35k+ dps. Think some of my best attempts were between 39k and 40k. Condi berserker bannerslave sword/ torch and longbow felt good for me as well. VERY easy rotation.

I'm trying to do power berserker now from snow crows. Skill floor of 2. Called "easy to learn". Axe/axe and greatsword. What is even going on? I need to queue up skills that barely have any cast time and avoid auto attacks like the plague. Why do I feel like I need 200 APM to do a basic warrior rotation? 30k was my best DPS with this build.

You are asking for a vanilla in a game with horizontal progression. Dude, this is not WoW. I played in 2019 and I always found people on the core maps. And now more people with rifts even more

It is horizontal in name only. Look at me with a straight face and tell me this: "The maximum DPS you can achieve right now is the same or roughly the same as it was in vanilla." If you can do that, then your statement that progression is horizontal is true. Tell me that a condi mirage does the same DPS as a core mesmer 10 years ago for example.

It's the same "horizontal progression" from World of Tanks. Newer premium tanks are objectively better than regular tanks of equal tiers. Just as newer lines are better than the equivalents from other lines.

I get vanilla WoW andy whiplash every time I read this sentence right here. Hells these people are obnoxious.

Nostalgia needs to stay in the past. It's why it's a formula for fond memories in the first place.

If it's just nostalgia, why am I currently also playing WoW vanilla on a private server and enjoying it?

I lied. Let me rephrase it. It is NOT WoW vanilla. It is "vanilla plus" as they have decided to call it. In translation, it is the content from WoW vanilla with some tweaks, some small bits of content added while levelling and a LOT of the quality of life features from modern WoW. Basically, over 90% of the game is exactly like WoW vanilla.

I hate it when people throw that "it's just nostalgia" card.

They also seem to believe the person asking for vanilla also wants the removal of minor tweaks and QoL features such as the build storage. Did I mention in my OP that I want the removal of any QoL features? No. I only touched on major changes.

No, there is no plan for whatever it is you're asking.

Dungeons have been replaced by fractals, strikes and raids.  Development on dungeons stopped years ago.

Not sure what time(s) you're playing or which region (US/EU)?  I often see many people on core maps.  Population is lower now due to the Wintersday festival.

Don't understand the rest of your post.

Which core maps exactly? I did a stroll through Metrica Province on a fresh character for example. Nobody. Other than 1 christmas tree on fire fishing. This isn't a wintersday thing. It's the norm.

You seriously don't understand the rest of my post or are you trolling me? You don't understand how a flying mount is bad for any MMORPG? You don't see the drastic change in combat from vanilla? The particle effects seem fine to you? The map design is similar to core Tyria? You like GW2 basically becoming a shop for christmas lights?

I guess you are trolling me.

  17. Why? If you wanted to ask. I realised that I don't enjoy a lot of the changes.

    Core Tyria maps are dead.

    Dungeons are dead.

    Skyscale.

Elite specs overly focused on melee combat. With much faster paced gameplay.

Seizure inducing particle effects for the elite specs.

The new map design focused on extreme verticality.

The new "christmas tree on fire" skins I see everywhere.

Nowadays everyone has a gazillion Tomes of knowledge....

    The speedrun:

log onto main -> drag 250 stack of ToK into the shared slot.

create a new charackter. -> the second you spawn in, you click ToK 80 times.......    End of the run.

As I previously said, that's not the point. People speedrunning in WOW classic could easily send a lot of stuff from their main characters to help. But they don't. They do it for the challenge and fun.

  19. The catalyst elite spec for my main elementalist felt like a bad joke. I wanted more ranged options and they turned me into a barbarian with a hammer. Had to go for celestial stats so I don't constantly get downed.

I want something that feels similar to the vanilla staff elementalist. Long range spells, crowd control spells, mobility spells. Ideally a power build but not mandatory. I got HOT, POF and EOD. So all professions and elite specs are available to me.

Probably no one really cares about speed running lvling because of the Tomes. Also there are lots of cheesy options because everything gives exp. Like if you have Skyscale and LS4 teleportation tomes you can teleport to LS4 maps like Thunderhead Peaks and collect volatile magic motes with your Skyscale. I think each mote gives like 2500 exp before any modifiers.

That is what I call external help. For example the guy in the WOW video could have easily sent a lot of gear and potions from another character of his, essentially "cheating". Or even multiboxed with a 2nd max level character to kill the mobs much faster. But he didn't do any of these things. I know that in Guild Wars 2 your curency wallet is account wide, not character specific. You would need a fresh account to do the speedrun with no external help.

The game starts when you reach lvl 80, lvling is just a little tutorial 😉

I like the levelling process. Learning all sort of gimmicks, agro techniques, kiting from mob to mob, best zones to level etc.
