Game Not Downloading

Recommended Posts

Haven't played this game in maybe... 3-4 years. Decided to jump back in with my wife and to our surprise, neither of our downloads would finish. The files remaining just gets stuck at a certain point (Roughly the same for both of us)..at around 90%.
After doing some research, this is an issue that has been widespread for the last 2 years. I have tried all the fixes, but the only thing that fixed it for me was downloading through a VPN. My Wife doesn't have a VPN, so still trying to sort hers out...BUT seriously contemplating whether or not to even bother coming back now. We are in EU, which seems to be the issue, but what i'm wondering is, how the heck have the devs just left this issue?
We are on completely new PC's many years later after our last session and it happened to BOTH of us.. So it seems that ANY new player is going to be experiencing this (at least from EU). This is completely game breaking and drives off any potential new players. How has this been left alone for 2 years now? Seems insane to me. Like how are they expecting the average player / gamer to do all this extra tech work to TRY and get it working? I've been trying, but only the VPN works... What a huge entry barrier..

I've seen you posting around on this topic, seemingly defending it for years. Not sure why you are doing that, but i'm sorry to say... If it has been periodically re occurring for the last 2 years without a full proof fix, then it has indeed been left alone. Any new player coming in at any time should not be encountering such a rudimentary issue such at "Starting the game". It's a huge loss of potential growth and one I would think they'd be knuckling down on. Not just expecting people in the community to find fixes every time they patch the game. Preposterous.
Also, as I have mentioned, I have tried all the current "Fixes" and I have spent hours trouble shooting this, only to have a VPN be my solution. That is not something you should be expecting new players to do. Trouble shoot for hours why they can't get the game to download, mess with Host files, launching VPN Software...It's just too much for someone that sees a GW2 video and thinks "Hey I should try this game".

It's not been left alone; it happens periodically.

You can find the solution by perusing recent threads.

Or, you can wait for a 'fix' from the Devs; there's an official post in one of said aforementioned threads.

@In Deo Spes Mea.2468 I assume you read Ziack's post, that he is already aware that there are heaps of threads about this issue. There are NO official article from the actually developers themselves about this.  That is slack . (If I am wrong, prove me wrong). If this is a thing that happens periodically then maybe they should make a nice little guide ? Since they can't seem to find a permanently solution, at least do something.

How can you possible be alright with "just wait for a fix", and it has been YEARS , and they done NOTHING about it? You got to admit that this is crazy, and that's what this post is all about...

Same dowloader stuck on 29,250 files remaining :(

@Zinmon.8529 I just fixed mine, do the following:

1. open cmd -> paste: "nslookup origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com 8.8.8.8" -> take one of the upcoming ips: "Adresses: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"

2. go to your host file: "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\" open hosts file (edit as admin)

paste in: "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com" at the end of your host file, save it and it should work.

(replace xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx with one of the adresses from the cmd lookup you did before)

I actually got 2 addresses in my cmd. So basically my host file looks like this :

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx             assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx              assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com

Hope it works for you :)

This is the winning answer. Good job Sir or Madam.
