Seeing friends' alliance teams?

Hi, I noticed that in WvW since the Alliances went live, mutual friends still show up on friend list as things like World vs. World (Northern Shiverpeaks) rather than their (Alliance Team), so I have no idea what team they're on or what matchup they're in without each of pestering them individually. This is also true for non-mutual friends e.g. commander tags I used to follow -- I can see that they are online, but there is no way to see what team they're on. I used to use the Server Transfer window to double-check that my favorite commanders were still on my server, but now everything just displays the old server names rather than the Alliance team.

 

Is there still going to be a use for servers in general, or will they eventually be replaced in the interface with alliance teams? Are there plans to make players' teams visible to others from any sort of interface or menu? This seems like a key piece of information that should continue to be visible like it always was with the world system.
