Why are guild halls so big?

Just for the heck of it I did a google image search for "guild halls'. There were some pretty neat ones there, from GW2 and other game worlds as well as some real life ones. My favorite irl one was probably the Small Guild Hall in Riga. It reminded me of the Colleen Moore Miniature Fairy Castle at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. If you like miniatures and you've never seen that dollhouse, you'll want to google images of it. The thing is amazing! It's what a guild hall should look like in my book. :)
