Antivillian.1250
I've gotten into the good habit of mystic forging a lot of my gear to reduce burden on my inventory. However, I was wondering if it is even worth trying to get a better piece of armour? Are there skins I might unlock, or highly desirable armours on the trading post that can be found through RNG?
savacli.8172
When it comes to armor? Not really, you'll just end up getting another armor piece that is commonly obtained. Even if you did get something fancy out of the forge you will have flushed more gear down the forge getting that fancy armor skin that you would have by just buying it from the TP.With weapons? That's a different story as you can potentially get a precusor from the forge that could have a value worth hundreds of gold. Though, the chances of that are radically slim. And same issue as the armor, by the time you get the precursor worth hundreds you probably have already flushed weapons worth thousand+ to get it.Tl;DR Results vary. Statistically, it's not worth flushing your exotics.
mtpelion.4562
To reiterate what @savacli.8172 said:For armor, you are generally better off salvaging or selling the exotics. To get skins, either buy them directly or craft them yourself. For weapons, you can unlock many unique skins as well as get precursor weapons via the Mystic Forge, however most skins are very inexpensive on the TP and most of the most valuable ones are only available via Mystic Forge recipes (i.e. your random tosses won't result in an Eye of Rodgort, for example). Forging for skins/precursors is usually something you do once you have amassed a large degree of wealth already and can afford to ride out the long streaks of getting nothing of significant value from the Mystic Forge.
