Elixir S stops incoming damage/condition application but condis that are already on you can still kill you.

If you died under Elixir S then it was a good chance it was conditions that killed you. Elixir S is a death sentence if you have pre-existing conditions on you before your Elixir S takes effect.

Otherwise, lag killed you.

Lag kills people often with excessive damage.

Same thing happens with guard ult in wvw and spvp. Also sometimes you take so much damage you go from up alive to dead completely skipping the down state.

Elixir s is good for physical and not condi but sometimes you take so much (immune) physical damage in less than a second that you fall anywaya or die.

Same with guard ult that makes you invulnerable. It is a channel ability but you take too much damage and drop.

Maybe anet coded a damage threshold so you couldn't be immune to like a billion damage.
