Question regarding staff power daredevil build for open world / fractals

Short question. I was wondering why we would use deadly arts instead of trickery for power builds. Is it only for exposed weakness and executioner ? What are the downsides to using trickery if we can maintain lead attacks throughout the fight ? It would be for open world and fractals.

  • Trickery would definitely benefit you more in open world on anything that is not a champion or world boss. Not so much for the lead attacks, but because most mobs die too fast to make executioner worth it + trickery gives you easy fury, vigor and boon rip.

    Fractals however is a different story. Short answer regardless if you are deadeye or daredevil it is simply a dmg loss in a meta core comp (read : chrono+druid+warrior). There are situations where trickery is better:

    • You don't have a mesmer or firebarand and you are running a Daredevil- get it for quickness and some party boons + bonus CC , whether to drop critical strikes or deadly arts it is a close call, but definitely DON'T drop critical strikes if you are missing also the druid or warrior and are not crip capped

    • You are with thief in a fractal where you have No pain, No gain and for some reason you don't have a Spellbreaker, Scourge and your mesmer does not know what a disenchanter is and you are with a power based group (whoah talk about niche, but there you have it) - take deadly arts, critical strikes and trickery with d/d (yes, core thief) to rip the boons from bosses for as little a dps loss as possible (sword+dagger for trash).

    Both Deadly Arts are mandatory specializations. Since we're talking about open world PvE:

    • Deadly Arts is required for the healing you get when you steal and the extra damage when your target has a condition and has less than 50% health.

    • Trickery is required not only for the extra initiative, but for improving the steal skill, specifically dazing your target when you use the steal skill or applying confusion on them. Also the minor trait Lead Attacks is nice trait that increases damage and condition damage.
