  1. I'm comparing rewards for my playstyle, which did not include weeklies, and also did not include buying skins with gems. I don't doubt that for people with different playstyles the comparison would be different, but it would be incorrect to include them in my calculation as my stated goal is to show how it affects me and the people I play most with. And limiting the calculation to the rewards for the same work is exactly what makes it a great comparison for people with my playstyle. I appreciate that you and people like you get more, but that doesn't encourage me or my friends to play the game. In fact, after a week and a half, our playtime is down to about 40% of what it was under the old system. We're just not logging in every day anymore.
  2. You are correct, I was missing the daily chests, thank you! I hadn't successfully done a daily at that point, I've done a few now. So reworking the numbers, the old system was only about twice as good for my playstyle. If I play as I did for 28 days under both systems, the old gave me 56 gold, 2000 luck, and a bunch of other items listed below. The new system gives me 1766 AA, 28 gold (from the daily chests, thanks for pointing that out), and 1400 luck (again, from the daily chests) and just under 1800 AA (5 login, 30 for 3 dailies, and 30 for the daily chest per day) to buy the difference. Note that with the difference in gold being 1 G per day it can all be purchased at the discount rate, another difference from my original calculations. So spending all 1766 AA, I'm still short by a celebration booster, a piece of exotic gear, and 4 store items (and I *love* the black lion salvage kits) and 2% gold find, which would cost 2000 AA, more than the entirety of what I earned in the 28 days! I could do more work to get more rewards, but that's always the case. I could have done daily fractals for a lot of rewards. I could have joined ranked PvP, but I don't like it. So saying "yeah, but you left weeklies out of your calculation" misses the point - I'm comparing the rewards for my playstyle under the old system and the new system, and adding weeklies to the mix would be incorrect. Anyway, for those interested, here are the revised numbers. And thanks again to Mistwraithe and others for (politely!) pointing out my omission, I appreciate both improved accuracy and the intelligent discourse. 28 days with 3 dailies old system (assumes Obsidian and Clovers from Loyalty) item qty Cost per new Running total Days new Notes Mystic coins 20 9 180 2.769230769 Laurels 35 10 530 8.153846154 Luck 600 0.12 602 9.261538462 2000 from old, 1400 from new for 28 days, difference of 600 Gold coins 28 6 770 11.84615385 The old system gave 56, the new gives 28 over 28 days for a difference of 28, all purchasable at the lower rate of 6 AA per gold. 3. As you suggested I took another look, and it's worse than I thought. I regularly do (well, did) login plus 3 dailies every day, plus a story chapter or collection step most days. So I looked at the rewards I got under the old system for 28 days of that, and looked at how many days of the same behavior it would take under the new system to get the same rewards. For ease of comparison I chose the Clovers and Obsidian as the Chest of Loyalty reward because those are typical for me. The full numbers are below, but in summary after 28 days in the old system I'd be a celebration booster, 4 gem store items, and a piece of exotic gear ahead of where I'd be after 136 days in the new system. The old system is more than 4.8 *TIMES* more rewarding than the new system. I guess if I used my gold to buy skins on the TP it might be more favorable to the new system, but apples to apples the new system is 20% as rewarding as the old. 28 days with 3 dailies old system (assumes Obsidian and Clovers from Loyalty) item qty Cost per new Running total Days new Notes Mystic coins 20 9 180 5.142857143 Laurels 35 10 530 15.14285714 Luck 2000 0.12 770 22 Tomes of knowledge 10 8 850 24.28571429 Transmutation charges 3 8 874 24.97142857 Bag of Craft Mats 1 32 906 25.88571429 A Large Crafing Bag costs 8 and is worth 1/4 what an old Bag of Crafting Materials was worth Bag more Craft Mats 1 40 946 27.02857143 LCB = 1/5 BMCM Chest of Loyalty Clover 7 60 1366 39.02857143 Chest of Loyalty Obsidian 8 50 1766 50.45714286 Chest Loyalty gold find % 2 1000 3766 107.6 Gold coins 56 18 4774 136.4 18 is the average of 6 and 30, needed to sustain over a season Celebration booster 1 not available Gem store items 4 not available 1 exotic equipment 1 not available
  4. First, this isn't a ragequit, GW2 is still worth playing, but the changes significantly reduced my enjoyment and the devs should know why. I'm a software developer with decades of experience and I know the value of well reasoned customer feedback. Here's mine to help a game I love. First, the new system has less choice. In the old system I could log on, and have a dozen things to choose from. I might not choose WvW as often as PvE, but I regularly did, and often ended up playing for a lot longer than I'd intended. The new system I have to pre-register for my "mode", and if I include one I play less frequently it comes at the expense of choices in a mode I'm more likely to play. So you penalize your players for keeping an open mind and trying new stuff, stuff they might discover they enjoy and give them another reason to log on. Second, I have purchased HoT, PoF, and EoD for myself and my entire family, and we play together. I also encourage friends to join, and help them to get established. In the old system we all got the same dailies and could do them together, in the new system we're getting different objectives in areas we both own and both have completed events in. I get how you wouldn't give an event in an expansion a player doesn't own, but if we own the same expansion give us both the same objective in it. If we can't do dailies together, there is less incentive to log on as a group. Research shows that today people log into games to play with people they know, why would you introduce a change that makes it harder to play with your friends? Third but related to the second, why exclude new players from the dailies? People without a level 80 character don't have access to dailies under the new system, while the old system gave them under-80 alternatives. It was a much better design. Why lock out new players, they are exactly who you should be giving the most encouragement to! Fourth, and also related to the second, don't give me a daily I cannot access. The old system was really good about offering things that might be difficult (i.e. many of the jumping puzzles) but at least I could get there. Yesterday I go an objective in an are you had to complete a collection to get into. I exited without doing my dailies. That's just frustrating. Fifth, the point system is confusing. I like the flexibility to choose more than just 2 gold, and I like that I don't get nothing if I complete 2 of the 3 dailies, but the old system gave strong and immediate reinforcement and did give you smaller rewards for each step. But the new system is at best poorly explained. Even after going to the wiki and reading the article, I feel a bit unsure about the new system. Do seasons reset my points? Do points expire? Are "legacy rewards" really going to stick around? Are the prices going to stay the same of go up after the honeymoon? Sixth, the new system feels like it rewards a lot less. The daily login gave nice stuff every week, just for logging in, and there was incentive to do more once you did log in. I haven't done the math, but it feels like the reward for just logging in is much less than the old rewards for just logging in every day. Again, I haven't done the math, but it feels like the reward for doing 3 dailies every day for a month is also a lot less. If I took my reward in gold for doing a login and 3 tasks on the list every day for 3 months, in the old system I'd have 180 gold, 60 mystic coins, 100 laurels, 6000 luck, a dozen gem store items, a dozen transmutation charges, 3 celebration boosters, 3 chests of loyalty, 6% gold find, and more. What would I have in the new one? Is it even close? And the proof is in the pudding. In the last few years I've missed only a couple dozen days of doing dailies, mostly because of vacations or computer problems. But I haven't finished my dailies even once since the expansion came live. I still like the game, and I still feel like logging in, but the desire to log in, and the sense that I'm missing something easy if I skip, is significantly reduced, and that can't be good for the game overall. I'd love to see an official response to this or to some of the similar posts I've seen, in many games I play or have played the feeling is the devs (or at least the decision makers) just don't care what the players think, and I'd love to see evidence to the contrary here. Thanks for your time!
  5. I didn't mention but I did check for system corruption, I ran both a System File Checker scan (came up clean) and a full DISM from an install image downloaded fresh from Microsoft. I also tried running in compatibility mode for Windows 8 and 7, neither worked. I've checked for updates and applied all available, though I have not upgraded to Windows 11 (which I plan to soon-ish, but am not quite ready with other IRL things demanding my attention)
  6. The installer is silently crashing on Windows 10, I checked the event log and it's crashing in NTDLL.DLL. I searched the web and this seems to be a program error, so maybe you guys can fix it and release a new setup client. Here is the error from the event log Fault bucket 1193921015845496333, type 4 Event Name: APPCRASH Response: Not available Cab Id: 0 Problem signature: P1: Gw2Setup-64.tmp P2: 1.0.0.1 P3: 645193c3 P4: ntdll.dll P5: 10.0.19041.2130 P6: b5ced1c6 P7: c0000005 P8: 00000000000a2337 P9: P10: And here is the system information Edition Windows 10 Pro Version 21H1 Installed on ‎12/‎19/‎2020 OS build 19043.2364 Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4190.0
  7. It's broken for me too, and -usecoherent didn't fix it. I'm really tired of ANet pushing insufficiently tested patches, the game would be a lot better if they meddled less.
  8. I've recently dipped my toes into WvW and the aspect that stands out to me is it's way too hard to play with my friends. I'm in guilds on different servers, and I can't play WvW with both under the current system. Will the new system allow me to play with friends on different servers? Preferably with an easy mechanic like switching the guild I represent, though even having to log out and back in with a different choice would be acceptable.
  9. That was it, thank you. I hope they hurry, that would be (assuming they implement it well) a huge improvement. Hopefully they'll settle on a simple interface like "the guild leader declares a world and representing that guild automatically puts you on their server", I could see them overthinking this and making an even bigger confusing mess out of it. But none the less the fee is an insult to players struggling to work around ANet's poor design. For many of us, we just want to play with our friends, we're not trying to game the system, and "a fee to stop us from cheating" just generates resentment. Anyway, thanks for taking the time for such a complete answer, I really appreciate that. Hopefully management sees this and takes it to heart, there is a lot I like about this game and making it easier for friends to play together would be great.
  10. I'm new to WvW, tried to join my guild, and found they are on a different server. So I get one free transfer, I switched to their server, and that shows on the login screen, but when I enter WvW I see a choice of 3 servers none of which is either my old or my new server. In general, WvW has been an incredibly crappy experience, the idea seems fun but the implementation is terrible. First, I shouldn't have to change servers to play with my guild. You have a "guest" option, make it work with WvW. Not ideal that I have to log out and back in, but I could live with that. Second, if you are going to force users to change servers, don't charge for it. It's a workaround for your poor design, it should be free. Third, if you do make players transfer, and you charge them for it, and you limit it to once every 7 days, don't lock them out of earning pips for 5 days. You want to keep up momentum - I just started WvW and I'm so frustrated I'm dropping it. Maybe I'll come back to it, maybe I won't. You guys spend all this time on useless "balance passes", fix core problems first. A balance pass breaks people's builds and makes the resources people find on the web wrong, frustrating and driving off new and casual players. It makes it hard to attract friends to the game, which makes me unlikely to spend more money in this game instead of one I can play with them. And of course they aren't spending money in your game either.
  11. Thanks, I completed with other types of events. When that happens, is it usually one character, one account, or everyone in the region?
  12. For 2 consecutive events (defend researcher from waves of Skrit and defend Hylek from waves of Krait) I can see the event on my list, see the progress bar, talk to the NPC, etc. but even sitting inside the orange event circle for more than a quarter of an hour does not spawn even a single enemy. I tried logging out and back in with no effect. Is it just broken? Are other types of events working? I'm in Metrica Province on a level 47 character trying for the Daily Event Completer. My Metrica Province completion is 100%, and my world completion is 31%. This is hugely frustrating.
