Difficulty is irrelevant. You want to see the story, you need to play the strike. Of course you can YouTube it if you're determined to not PuG, but to not play is your only other choice. This current map is the same for WvW.

So far locking away the Almora story is the only deeply obnoxious attempt to make you play those side modes but make no mistake that IBS is little more than a promotion of the other game modes. If anyone is finding things rather thin storywise, that is why.

  2. Having finished the episode twice now I'm sticking with my original assessment: Smodur sees the Kahn-Ur position as Him vs Bangar and Bangar's forces need to be wiped out before he can do that (Total surrender to him is the only option Bangar is accepting so diplomacy is off the table in his eyes) The other NPCs called Smodur out on how he is acting as if this civil war is just the next step in his path to the top several times so his motivations are obvious.

Smodur is a politician and that means wanting power by any means necessary even if it results in becoming the king of an ash pile. His portrayal is fine if infuriating.

And that leads to the actual characterization flaw in the episode: How passive The Commander is about all of it. Effram should have been stopping us from tearing out Smodur's throat over the grenade, not the other way around.

    edited for proper spelling

Quick Google suggests the going rate for game designers is about $25/ hour and napkin math makes it seem like it's roughly on par assuming their designs are about a day's work.

Of course an artbook doesn't help pay rent. And, despite what some folks in the thread believe, Exposure Bucks aren't worth shit as far as building your art business goes. But if someone is happy to work for a tee shirt no one should stand in their way.

  4. I believe Wooden Potatoes has gone on more than a few rants about players zerging the content and then complaining they don't have anything to do. I used to do that too. Only doing map events as a way to get mastery XP or as a daily.

But then I stopped and talked to named NPCs. And listened to the ambient dialog the game was already known for. And waited around after the events. Core maps and expacs alike...

Bartimus Swordheart: I feel like I need another sword. Do you think I need a new sword?Obstructor Rora: (grumble)Bartimus Swordheart: Maybe two more?Obstructor Rora: (sigh)Bartimus Swordheart: You're right, why limit myself?

Then I realized everyone in Tyria is off their nut.

Sadly it shall forever remain that way... Unless Anet has S1: Remake planned for expansion 4. And yes, S2 was all over the place writing-wise.

Time will provide you with familiarity with the gang as you play through.

I'm guessing the Main character wont' have voice acting still, so... I'm not setting my hopes too high.

Don't worry, your voice will once again be your own.

Ehn. It's magitech. It's pretty a common trope. Final Fantasy and Discworld are the biggest examples I can think of. D&D's Eberron setting as well. And like Discworld towards the end of the series, Tyria is also undergoing rapid industrialization.

    Also...

! Star Wars went to crap with "I am your father" and never recovered due to the focus on ubermensch after that.
